i love how all of the ford chevy and dodge owners make all kind of dumbass coments when they see a real truck pull one of their peices of shit out of the mudd
I am VERY offended by that. I am a PROUD DIE-HARD INDEPENDENT CONSERVATIVE and I happen to be the proud owner of a voodoo blue FJ Cruiser that I happen to love very much. I'm too good to be labeled a sewer rat (liberal).
I love my Landcruiser. I have a 95. Wish she still looked like that one but oh well. I have been using it for what it was designed to do since it was new. I'd buy a new one if they weren't so pussy.
When you cannot move forward, it's called stuck. He was trying to get out for a half hour before the Land Cruiser helped. The guy had called a tow truck but the Cruiser pulled him out before it showed up.
So when you are spinning the tires and not moving, what exactly do you call that if not STUCK??? Leaf springs have nothing to do with it. Neither does the fact there there was no load in the truck.
dulieman, thanks for providing the sticker information. If you do a little research you can find this information on the internet or in books. The best place to look is in a Hayne or Chilton repair manual that covers year of your International Harvester Scout II.
Here, they are telling you to take it out of 4 wheel driveif you are going to operate the rear axle with only the rear elevated. Otherwise it will push off the the jack. No reference to any kind of traction enhancement differential for the front axle. Just disengage it for the test. If it is stock, it is an OPEN differential in the front.
dulieman ... Your comments from the Personal Message:
these are the exact words the sticker says. Sticker #1 This vehicle is equipped with INTERNATIONAL LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL GIVES POWER TO BOTH REAR WHEELS
part 2. of sticker#1 CAUTION DO NOT SPIN TEST WHEN ONLY ONE WHEEL IS OFF OF THE GROUND! WHEN THE TRANSMISSION IS IN GEAR POWER WILL FLOW TO THE WHEEL HAVING TRACTION
This is IH's reference to their Trac-Loc or Powr-Loc. Regardless of what they called it, it is a Limited Slip Differenial and was ONLY installed in the rear axle.
Part Two of the Sticker would be true for even an OPEN Differential. A "new" limited Slip will most likely push it off the jack so they have to say that. Again, a reference to the Limited Sip.
A URL will have something like a . com in it. Just leave that out. That's all you got to do. Or add spaces around the dot com. OR You could just email me. Did you get my email address?? I left you a message under your Youtube account. Email me dude, email me.
okay, listen i am being straight forward, maybe soewhere in the ordering process this interntional scout came with an upgrade, but after comparing the stamp h.p. and torque ratings of those with a stock 392 it matches
I don't doubt that you have a 392 in your Scout II. It's just not factory. Sonone dropped that in years ago. It's a bolt in with the same bell housing bolt pattern.
You'll have a hard time getting an answer from IH. They went out of business years ago and sold off their tractor and truck division to Navistar International Corporation. I doubt they know much about scouts.
Tell you what, if you give me your VIN number, I'll try to identify what was the stock configuration for your Scout. Your VIN is found on the title sheet and on a plate rivited to the firewall.
i know what you are saying but the scout we have is 100% original now what is a highly possible chance is that it was a special order with lockers and a 392
dulieman, listen up. What do those two stickers in the glove box say? Now I'm not asking what do you "think" they say, I mean, go out there, read it, write it down on a piece of paper, then come back to the computer and reply with the words on the stickers. That'll settle this once and for all.
also when i wondered about it being positive lock the guy that owns it and i tied it to multiple trees on hard ground and all four wheels spun simultaneously at the same spee. And if you make a hard turn you will here the inside wheel burning rubber even in two wheel drive none the less in four wheel. in four wheel it tries to staraighten the steering wheel out.
well, the international scout is almost impossible to turn in 4 wheel drive all i said was that it is possible, not that you were wrong about it being hard to turn. But, he difference in between what you are saying and what im saying is that mine is a stick shift and you are talking about a switch. But, if you drove my scout you would change your mind about it not being four wheel drive.
oh yea while im thinking about it tell toyota offroader that just because a scout is four wheel drvie with lockers you can still turn it and the four wheel drive can be disengaged and engaged.
When I asked you how you turned your locker on and off I was assuming you had a selectable locker up front. A detroit locker is an auto locker, there is no switch for it. As far as I know most or all factory installed front lockers are selectable lockers, and when engaged it is almost impossible to steer. A detroit locker is an after market locker that will automatically disengage while steering. The 1996 Land Cruisers has selectable lockers with a switch on the dash to turn them on and off.
yea sure i wouldn't know the difference between a travelall and a scout 2 if that is the case then michael jakcson is chinese. if you so dependant on a land cruiser why won't you bet against it and my scout. and this is dulieman speaking not the owner.
First of all, Michael Jackson certainly look Chinese now. Have you seen him? Secondly, I'm basing the suggested model error on Engine size and GVWR. So if you have the engine, you may have the Scout II but the GVWR you claim is wrong for a Scout II.
Third, I don't own a Land Cruiser. Fourth point, you never emailed me that picture so frankly I don't think you even OWN a Scout at all! If you do, it's a Diecast on top of your computer monitor.
Seriously, send me a pic of your Scout. We really like Scouts. We'd like to post your Rig on Offroaders . com Besides, it's a really long drive from slidell, louisiana to where we are up here.
just read the comments bout the scout vs yoda cruiser ... dullieman, u need to do some readin. First, GVWR: A gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) is the maximum allowable total weight of a road vehicle or trailer that is loaded, including the weight of the vehicle itself plus fuel, passengers, cargo, and trailer tongue weight. A factory Scout is nowhere near a 6300 GVWR.
I'm the owner of the custom International Scout that my guy got the Scot from. It was a special order, with lockers from the factory. We have built and sold custom Scouts all over the South. Greatest one is in Arkansas. No longer in business after Katrina, but we still own a few for personal use. The picture of the tow is a joke. A scout can pull the sweetness out of ginger bread. The End.
Hello Gingerbread man. So you are telling me that you are the original purchser of the 73 Scout in question? If that's true, maybe you can shead some light on this subject about the "Locker" that came from International Harvester's factory. One question: Can you tell me the type of Locker that was installed from factory as you claim? And where is that picture of the factory stickers in the glove box? I sent dullieman my email.
Additionally, based on all the knowledge out there about IH & Scouts and my 30+ years of knowledge dealing with 4x4s, IH only offered the POWR-LOC & TRAC-LOC from factory both of which are limited slip diffs.
Bottom line is the dullieman's claim to have FACTORY installed lockers front and rear is just plain BS. Just like the claim that his Scout can out pull a 1996 Toyota Land Cruiser with the Scout in mud and the Cruiser on dry pavement. What a crock of crap that is. HA! He apparently doesn't know the Land Cruiser for which he speaks.
If your Scout Dana 44 axles are truely stock, they would have NEVER come with a Detroit Locker in the rear or front axle. Most likely what you have is what International Harvester offered as an upgrade to the stock carrier, which is called a TRAC-LOC.
IF .... you do have Detroit Lockers, it is possible that the dealer may have installed them upon the request of a customer. However this is unlikely and would have been a very rare instance. We would need to see a picture of those stickers to confirm your claim.
Most likely you either bought this old IH with lockers installed by a previous owner or you don't have lockers at all and have either the TRAC-LOC limited slip differentials or the Powr-Lok limited slip differentials, which were the only factory traction options offered by IH.
thank you styklyx even he knows scouts have positive lock and what he said about 304 cubic inches. mine is 392 with a low gear ratio in the rear end so i think you should get your facts straight before getting in an argument
quit average pull n know the scout 2, deitrot lockers front n back 304 cubes? Luv the power n torque, nice but my BJ40 3ltr 4 cyl deisel dragged fully loaded tanker, 18 tn thru mud n rocks, I loved it n so the truck driver, sorry but basic 1979 cruiser, no crap computers or electrics, metal on metal, turn the key n luvit, cheers. nice trucks anyway
also you can steer it while in 4 wheel drive it is just that you leave rubber marks on the asphalt and it will try to straighten out the steering wheel
the only problem with a land cruiser is that it has slanted headlights. if you willing to bet $5000 on your land cruiser ill meet you anywhere in the U.S. and we can tie them back to back and we'll settle this once and for all.
you lock the hubs and transefer case in manually and yes it weights more than the GVWR maybe the meaning has changed since 1973 but i promise you my scout weighs more than the weighs more than the GVWR. i was on a calibrated scale with roughly a 2000 pound load and i got an 8500 pound reading the trailer weighed by itself weighed barely over 2000 pounds with the load. it was a few pieces of wood
A gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) is the maximum allowable total weight of a vehicle when fully loaded, including the weight of the vehicle itself plus fuel, passengers and cargo. It is not the weight of the vehicle by itself. If GVWR of your scout is 5200 pounds then the weight of the scout has to be less.
Just to let you know get your facts straight before getting into a debate because International Scout 2s do come with positive lock front and rear differnetials. Although very few of them do, hence, mine there are some. If you look in the glove compartment of these few vehicles you will see 2 stickers posted.
Are you sure it is not a Trac-Loc differential which is a type off limeted slip.
If it has a front locker then how do you turn it off and on, is it an air locker or an electric locker. If you do not have a way off turning it off then it is impossible to steer when in 4 wheel drive.
The Land Cruiser has a true front and rear electric locking differential, when it is locked the wheels will not slip even if one is off of the ground.
he wasn't stuck deep he only needed a nudge. if u really think that your toyota can pull hard tie it back to back with an international scout 2 with positive lock four wheel drive like mine has and see who wins. you can be on asphalt and the scout can be in a ditch and itll still win.
The Land Cruiser has a front and rear locking differential and weighs 2 1/2 tons. What ever vehicle is on asphalt will win, the one in the dirt will loose.
the internatinal scout 2 with a 392 and positive locking front and rear differentials weighs 6300 pounds. Your little land cruiser only weighs 4500. I belive with a 1800 pound advantage the international scout will win. INTERNATIONAL SCOUT II FOR LIFE

Scouts never came with a front and rear locking differential, they had a limited slip (Trac-loc).
I think the Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of the scout was around 6300 pounds not the actual weight of the vehicle.
The scout is a great truck but so is the Land Cruiser.
It is not my Land Cruiser in the video clip and they are not little.

Yeah, I don't think he really meant to do that. He backed up a little too far and the truck rolled down the slight hill, and was stuck.
