can someone tell me whats so ground breakingly good about this Malibu, no offense, but besides the gorgeous interior, nothing catches my eye. It's like Chevy finally puts out a decent car and everyone calls it Jesus. I've seen the car in person plenty of times, and I'm still trying to figure out whats so special about it. This is all based on design.. since I'm all about car design, but even when it comes to performance, its competitors are either on its tail, keeping up, or passing it..
Actually, when it comes to performance, the Malibu outperforms. 0-60 of 6.5 secs. with the V6 is faster than Altima and Accord and ties Camry. Also, the Malibu stops from 60 in 124ft (among the best). The ride and handling best the competition easily (I've driven the '08 Malibu). Plus, non of the competition offer such a well designed, easy to use, quality interior, or two tone leather seating. Even the $19,995 base model has standard navigation. For '09 the 4 cyl. gets 6speed manumatic tranny.
No one in the states uses their car's performance, they drive idly down the highway, you only see a few kids actually using the cars performance. So my critism is on the design, besides the two-tone interior, there is nothing ground breaking, 'omg that looks gorgeous' about the car. Chevy has finally put out a decent car for who knows how long, yet it still falls short (imo). Who care's if it's an economy sedan, why can't they put as much passion into the design as Infinity, or Merc??
I don't know where in the US you live, but people constantly use their car's power. Where I live and where I've driven in other states, you'll get run off the road if you don't go at least 10 over the limit. Anyway, there is a lot ground breaking about the Malibu. There's no other car like it on the road. Camry's interior is cheap and plasticy, Accord's is poorly and boringly designed and Altima's interior is just any old interior.
yea, the Malibu's interior is pretty sweet, i'm not saying its an ugly car, just that the hype that it's getting, is seeming like this car is the next big thing, and if GM can do wonders with Caddies, even though they still need to improve a bit on the interior quality on some, I think they designed the Malibu to just catch up, and they designed the interior the way it is because Chevy has a new edge. Point is, I know Chevy can do alot better design wise, than just another regular pretty car.
I guess where I live ppl suck, I drive a 4 cylinder Camry, and I'm passing kids on the highway hanging out in their Porsches and their V6's... I pass Mustangs and Vett's and I'm thinking, what's the point of them paying the cash for those engines, and not using the power, it's like slapping the engineers in the face, because it's not easy squeezing out as much horses as possible... I love it when I see someone blow by me.
I can tell you, they didn't just design it to catch up. The new Malibu definately surpasses the competition, you need to take one for a test drive even if you're not in the market. The Malibu is the next big thing, a test drive WILL change your mind--I'd bet money on it.
Well I agree Malibu surpasses the competitions in many ways but so did the Citation (1980). I'm very sure it won't be anything like that of course. If I get the chance I'll give one a drive. Is the bet in Us or Canadian dollars???
Ok Thanks , My e-mail indicated a response to a comment. No problem. I did see a Malibu yesterday, quite impressive indeed.Keep up the great comments.
Yeah its a begining. We've had alot of snow up here ( Toronto Ontario ) Mar.8 we got at least 30cm ! I can always talk to my cousin who is Vice president of a Ponitac Dealership.I mean they must have some Chev's around somewhere.Well I have plenty of time.
Looks like a nice car that Chevy did a great job on. Time will tell. The '97 was supposed to be the one that could finally take on Honda & Toyota too. We know that GM "can" build good cars...the question is will they? I hope so.
my mom baught one it rides really nice, and is comfortable, its one flaw i have found is that it doesnt have alot of space on the inside coarse im 6'3"
Another try to compete with Honda , Toyota and Nissan. How many times does it take before people realize that the Japanese have pretty much beaten the domestics. Gm , Ford and Chrysler have said they have better cars than the Japanese for 20 years or more. They even work with them on some cars ( ex: Toyota Matrix / Pontiac vibe ) Sells at the Big 3 are down. I can only hope the latest batch are better than before but reliability will be an issue. Time will tell. 2006 Nissan Sentra
I think Chevy has Nissan and Toyota beat here now; not Honda though. The Malibu has had wonderful reviews for nearly every magazine and newspaper, including Car and Driver, Motor Trend, and the New York Times.
I know the Malibu has had good reviews but alot of other domestics have too.I'm just tired of there were going to be better this time. I believe they can but why does it have to take so long.I would consider the Malibu if I needed another car but I would have to compare the others too.I like some of the standard features. 4 cylinder needs more power (180 hp) , The 6 is a better idea but gas up here is at the moment $1.02 a ltr.!!!
Honda is tough to beat. My bro's 88 crx Si went 469,000 kms. .
I never put curses in my comments just facts that I know. Anyone can bash a car , I just rather put facts not fiction and generally imports are better than domestic. The big 3 are trying indeed and Chrysler is I think behind.
Thanks for your comment. Gas here is now 98 cent a liter !!!! Cnd. Have a great day !
I've driven the 4 cyl. You should test drive one b/c I was impressed with the 169hp, it's plenty and I was a skeptic. Or, wait 'till '09when the 4 cyl. will be availible with the 6 speed manumatic which should improve acceleration and fuel economy.
A drive will force you to buy it, I'm positive. If it helps, the Saturn Aura which shares Malibu's platform and some components achieved outstanding ratings in Consumer Reports for reliability.
I'm well aware they share the same platform. I like the Aura styling a little better but just a little. I have that Consumers and yes it did very well. They just didn't rate the trunk , lowbeams and turning circle to well. They rated the Altima 2.5s & 3.5Se the highest. They just couldn't recommend it yet as it is to new.Time will tell.
I'll give it a try when I'm ready to deal my car in. I look forward to it.
Nice video Vince, the Malibu is a really tastefully designed car .... esp. with those sharp large diameter wheels. While it's no accord, it might actually be a more dynamically entertaining and a better car than the camry. But it will take a few comparison tests to see.
Does anyone know if the 2008 chevy malibu well have good resell value or is that up to the future demand. Because someone told me that Chevys have low resell value and the Honda accord has high re sell value.
Resale value depends on the used car market and demand for the car, and so far demand is pretty great, they sold 2,500 more than the planned 500 for the first two weeks of production.
