I remember that day.. I was in the building right in front of you on the 34th floor.. My lil cuz said the sky was going to fall.. And at the end i could hear all those car horns.. dem ppl must have been saying... Yo player.. left my kids at the stadium
@DDInspiration123 lol what? no they don't... most of them form off of the coast of africa. new york rarely ever sees a hurricane. the gulf coast gets most of them.
@sergyboy1 They sound sirens when the chances are high for a tornado, before it hits the ground, not all the time does that happen, but it's for safety for civilians.
@CL137626 The 2001 DC's (I think they are DC's...) are in Attack in this video, the T-Bolt doesnt pitch this high. The sirens they have now are good for the city, and they produce a 126 dB sound, while T-Bolts were 125. Not really a good upgrade, but it works better because it is easily echo-able against the buildings. Many people say T-Bolts are awesome, but they require alot of work. A blower pipe, blower box, etc.
@spotandtiggerbug Yeah, 2001s are good sirens, but back then they were more reliable and sturdy. Where i live it's nothing but 50s sirens, 3t22s, Thunderbolts, STH 10s, STL 10s, federal signal models 5-7, etc.
@CL137626 Well, theres about 4 stations here, one was built last year behind my neighborhood. Theres another one about a few blocks away from it, and that has a Darley Model 2 siren. I dont think its used, but im not sure...
Man that sound echoing around the city is frighteningly eerie... that's what you will hear the world over an hour before the comet comes... and there'll be nobody left to hear it soon thereafter.
@gymnast5601 i wasnt actually there, but there are dozens of youtube videos up from fans in the stands. type in "that crazy night at wrigley". i live in central pennsylvania and even we have had a lot of warnings this year...but it does appear that something really went on at wrigley field that night. my favorite video of it is that after the storm, since it was 70's night, an Elvis impersonator runs out and slides on the tarp they put over the field. I'm pretty sure he got arrested! lol
I was staying in Oklahoma in May of 2009 when the tornado siren started early at around 10pm at nighttime. My sister was screaming like crazy and my great grandmother who is deaf couldn't hear the siren that was blaring, i nearly shat my pants,my grandma's tv was broken and she had no internet.
We survived the massive tornado in her basement, but the kitchen was ripped apart!!!
If we weren't there my grandma could have died! Luckily now she has tv and a computer with internet :)
@DanceFerLyfe Uh maybe you're joking but, those are tornado sirens, and any air raid sirens left in cities are now used for tornado warnings, meaning, air raid sirens and tornado sirens don't differ, the sirens themselves(TBOLT, ALLERTOR, etc) that are used differ. Lots of different sirens(all with different tones) used throughout the united states. Simply put, all sirens are generally referred to as civil defense sirens, meaning they are used for multiple purposes.
@dotch8774 I think what DanceFerLyfe is talking about is the sound pattern. For an air raid, the test is the hi-lo-hi-lo sound that is heard in the video. For tornadoes, they generally sound the high tone for about two to three minutes. For some reason, they went with the hi-lo sound. Perhaps they pressed the wrong button - not sure.
@ulij20 They use either Alert (Steady Tone) Or Attack (Wail Tone) for tornadoes, because when the Merrill Wisconsin tornado hit, during the tornado warning, they used alert. When the tornado was almost on the ground they used attack. In this case, Chicago uses Attack, or Fast Wail, for warning. But that was back then. Now they use Wail and Alternate Wail
omg!!!! I remember going to school down there for Culinary Arts and there was a siren right in front of the school and I remember it going off one day during class and omg I couldn't hear for at least a good 10mins lol
Whenever tornado sirens go off where I live we don't think anything of it. Now when we here something that sounds like a tornado, thats when we get our asses in the bathroom!!
Here in Missouri, our Outdoor Warning Sirens only pulse like the ones in the video if there is an attack in the area. Otherwise its a continuous siren for Tornados.
Of course the idiots in chicago don't know the most common warning siren alert is a continuous single tone and that an alternating pitch siren alert was actually the "all clear" alert.
@inesis Thats not true! Tornadoes can hit anywhere one hit the downtown area of Atlanta in 2008. Tornadoes are unpredictable they don't say hey its a big city I think i will touch down somwhere else lol
@geraldd4 Notice the 3 dots at the end of my comment, I was being sarcastic! I am well aware this is only a myth! But anyway, if a tornado hit a big city, you can always open the windows to reduce the damage...
i remember being soooo scared!! i hadnt been in a tornado before and i was only like 8 or 9 i hid in the snack room in my basment and my parents laughed at me
@SoftballCB23 Don't feel bad. My first tornado was last year driving through Sheriden, WY. I was 24 and no sirens out in the middle of nowhere (was going to Michigan) so I had to drive through blinding rain, wind, and hydroplaning on a freaking curvy highway to get to the town. I balled like a bitch, I called my mom and cried xD lmao.
scary sound. When my grandmother used to hear these it was because of bombs, not tornadoes. The day after at school there would sometimes be some empty desks.
@incheon theworldking100 3/5/11 the tornado sirens came but i was scared because because it was raining i went in the basement in our house but i forgot it was the first saturday of the month then i went to the couches in our basement then i walked i something wet. OUR BAESMENT FLOOR FLOODED!!!!!
