Ray was great.. sounded pretty similar to David Coverdale! Gotta love Jake too, he was one of the better guitar players of the era, and very underrated.
@nickcruz455 - and you were born when....89? Ever heard of apples n' oranges, or just pablum? No compromise, no comparison. Why not pull Roth/Halen, Beck/Stewart or Page/Plant into this and make a truly educational experience? Fuck, you bore me....

Jake E Lee and Ray Guillen were awesome!!! Thanks so much for posting this! I saw these guys 7 times when they were together. Ray was and still is 1 of my fav singers ever. So much range, power, and most of all...soul! RIP
its very a dangerous magic guitarist, God of Blues, metal, rock, everything about guitar playing, best player guitars, Jake e Lee is a Legend for guitars Players
this is just amazing.......its leaving me speachless....im 16 by the way and im trying to bring this stuff back...the music now-a-days SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And Jake was/is one BAD mofo. And a nice guy, too, with a cool sense of humor, totally humble and friendly. He stops by the store I work at every once in a while, and he's a good dude. Go, Jakey!
This song kicks ass, everyone is giving Jake and the singer credit, the bass and the drums are kickin too, the bassist is actually spazzing if you watch it. These guys are having fun, it's awesome.
Unbelieveable.....Badlands rocked! Jake's playing combined with the amazing vocals of Ray Gillan - that's the makings of a classic band. Kinda like a '90's Page and Plant. What more can be said? R.I.P. Ray. Jake, come back!!
Now check out Jake with Ozzy in Solid Gold in 1984...and if you can see the outro when they were reintroduced on the show...i have to admit..they made a huge impact...but what the heck was it?...i think he was the first to wear a bandana on an arm or leg(or wait was that Ritchie Blackmore?..or Prince?)
Well....i like the song...but after listenng to like 5 hours of other guitarists i cant really say i see anything unusual....Now i remember back in the day we raced home with the latest"Guitar for the Practicing Musician", or whatever the hell the name was..to scramble to find what was so outstanding about the Laytest "Jake E. Lee sound...and all i got was a 11 stage photo of buzz noises you can make...so can somebody plz relate to me what is beyond mimicry in this stuff?( Pinch Harmonics?)
It's all preference, some people could find the guitarist from linkin park the most amazing guitarist. That is not at all the case, but to some, he's the best. Jake may be a product of his time, but hearing other guitarists of this time, Jake sounds a lot more there, his guitar fuller than most and has a signature racy sound. You can tell he loves it, plus his solo's are really jazzy, bluesy and speedy, a lot of metal guitarist didn't have that sound. These small details make him unique.
Spectacular live "High Wire" footage of BADLANDS Ray-lovely high power vocal range/beautiful voice, Jake-total Rebel electric on lead guitar, Greg-tough & heavy on the bass guitar rythym and Jeff-solid groove on the drums. Excellent high energy performance all the way! Right on BADLANDS.
Zep meets Whitesnake? hey, I still dug this shit out of their first 2 LPS. Coming from Ozzy, and the by then bloated 80's, Jake did this with AUTHORITY--great tunes and completely ass-kicking vibe. I remember in 1978 in South Hackensack , NJ in the basement of my cousin's friends(two brothers who played guitar 'n drums), and a 16 year old RAY GILLEN was singing, the whole band doing "Miss America" by Styx, sounding killer and RAY was wailing effortlessly then. Yes, thanks for the VID!!
can u call me or give me your phone number. i want to ask u a few questions about Ray. I studied voice with his voice teacher Robert Fitzgerald but never met Ray. All these awesome people who post vids on here help me piece together what I never had in meeting or seeing him sing live. Please call or give me your number. Eric 215-626-3220
It trips me out that Jeff Martin (the singer for Racer X) is the drummer here and on the second album. It's crazy to be a lead vocalist and then good enough on drums to get this gig while Racer X wasn't doing anything.
Eric Singer was in the band a very short time, joining Kiss right after Eric Carr died. It's hard to tell who the drummer in this vid is but Martin joined and toured with them in '89 and was the drummer on the next two albums.
Jeff Martin was a drummer before he was a singer. He and Greg Chaisson played in a band called St. Michael in Phoenix where Jeff was the drummer & lead vocalist. That's why Jeff got the gig with Badlands - he and Greg already had that connection.
Fantastic performance. Ray was a god as was Jake E. Lee i saw Badlands 4 times and they knew how to put on a great kick ass live show. R.I.P. Ray you are missed :(
Ray- you did it. All things considered, you left a huge impression on the music world in such a short time. Who can argue that you were not among the best rock singers have offered ever!
@rickinick abso fuckin lutley r.ip. ray all the best always die young thankfully i was blessed enough to see these guys live!fan fucking tastic show and they were just the openers and they killed it! and jake e lee is one of the most underated guitarists in that era !and eric singer!! can't say enough about that guy long live badlands!!
This is an amazing song and an amazing record. The bluesy rock riffs complement Ray's soulful, colorful singing perfectly. Chiasson and Singer formed a rock solid rhythm section.
Killer. It's a shame this CD is not available to buy anymore unless you buy it used for $30-$40 off ebay.
One other note: this video is shot really well two for one camera. I wish more DVDs were like this. Just simple, one-camera shots, don't need all the fancing cutting and editing that ruins many new concert DVDs.
I remember Badlands kinda- but I did not have any idea how much he sounds like Coverdale! Damn what a voice! And Jake-- what more can u say! One of the Greatest ever!!
ray and jake is to robert and jimmy.hey does anyone remember the COVERDALE/PAGE cd? that cd rocked.i still got it.i don't care much about criticism but i'm glad they(page and coverdale) put it out in 93.here comes the main event:I'D PREFER RAY OVER COVERDALE.WHO WANTS TO ARGUE?
Killer one camera vid. Badlands was such an amazing band. Two fricking albums goddamnit! This was my song man. It would never fail to pump me up. The energy, vocals, groove, guitar, props to drums and bass too.
Talk about reaching your career peak.Jake and Ray reached it with Badlands, absolutely incredible together. Two masters at their craft. Thanks for the video!
GREAT undiscovered footage, thanks for sharing i wonder how much more footage exists? GREAT band Ray had a great voice and Jake E Lee was a monster on guitar (hes actually better here than when he was with Ozzy IMO) the 4 of em just made wonderfull music from 1989 till 1993 (Ray died) This is REAL music, not slagging all of todays music (most is crap) but this is how music sounds.
