@katott1 Thanks, I recorded this on Kathy Kallick's cd, "Between the Hollow and the Highrise". Lots of dobro throughout including a fast one called "Monobrow". It's on iTunes and cd baby.
Great job. Been playing an old "yeller"Regal for several years. I play PHR, but no where like you. Give me 10 yrs, ????love your playing and your videos. Thx, bud, bmt tx
I had the opportunity to meet and interact with Leon back over the summer of '88 at Rogers State College (Claremore, OK). I think he would have loved to have you on his TV show there!
I'm a big fan of the Pedal Steel but I have to say, after hearing you play this tune, its 'better' than any steel version I've heard! Thanks for posting. :-)
The first part has been tabbed and is up on Rob Anderlik's web site under tabs and videos. Glad you like my version, I've worked up a 3rd part also. All has been recorded and will eventually be out on cd.
Sure. The first string grip is the open 1st string along with strings 2 and 4 at the 7th fret. The ringing but stationary 1st string is what gives the intro that character. The whole thing has been tabbed out at Rob Anderlik's website. Scroll down to Dobro Tab and it's the first one. You will also need the free Tabledit Viewer to view and hear it. The link for that is there also.
Do you play any steel? sounds like alot of C6/Texas swing lover? Where did you buy your guitar? I think i used to own that guitar Elderly instruments sold it for me, Great picking so different?????????????
Leon McAuliffe certainly played with the Wills band for many years, but according to Townsend's bio he didn't record this piece with Wills at all (but it was done at Wills' last session for Kapp, in 68 or 69). The first recording would be that of McAuliffe's own band in 1949.
Incidentally he did it in E, probably in E13 tuning. Many players, myself included, have ignored his use of the II7 chord in the last half of the bridge.
OK, now that I've seen this I am selling my house and moving to Texas so I can learn to play like this. The Lord will keep you ever humble...you're never as good as you think!
Fantastic stuff! Your arrangement is a masterpiece! I love that you present your ideas and not simply a retread of the Jerry Douglas version. Your style is totally cool; a great synthesis between modern dobro technique with the obvious pedal steel influence. It's really nice to be able to see your videos here on YouTube!
U R AWESOME!!!

Great playing, nice to hear the dobro without a million hammer ons per measure. I am sure you can do that, but
you make it sound musical, that's waht I like.

would you be willing to share some info about the intro? are you using the 2nd 3rd and 4th strings @ the 7th 6th and 5th frets
