From all the years I've lived in China, I know ONE truth about the Chinese media, IT LIKES TO HIDE THINGS (Particularly bad things going on in China) FROM THE CITIZENS. Like the time SARS broke out, the Chinese media hides the real death figure of SARS victims and reported a false figure.
You may say that is considered lying, but I think it was a forced lie. If China could refuse to report the SARS figures, I think it would choose not to report AT ALL than to report a false figure. (But the circumstances at the time of SARS did not give the Chinese media a choice of NOT reporting) THE CHINESE MEDIA NEVER FABRICATED STORIES OF OTHER COUNTRIES JUST FOR THE PURE SAKE OF SLANDERING. On the contrary, western media has a habit of reporting exaggerated news with 1/2 of them made up.

From all the years I've lived in China, I know ONE truth about the Chinese media, IT LIKES TO HIDE THINGS (Particularly bad things going on in China) FROM THE CITIZENS. Like the time SARS broke out, the Chinese media hides the real death figure of SARS victims and reported a false figure.

You may say that is considered lying, but I think it was a forced lie. If China could refuse to report the SARS figures, I think it would choose not to report AT ALL than to report a false figure. (But the circumstances at the time of SARS did not give the Chinese media a choice of NOT reporting) THE CHINESE MEDIA NEVER FABRICATED STORIES OF OTHER COUNTRIES JUST FOR THE PURE SAKE OF SLANDERING. On the contrary, western media has a habit of reporting exaggerated news with 1/2 of them made up.

but i have to correct you on the reasons: its not about slandering china for political reasons. its the rules of free market that cause low quality in reporting. though media does influence people it also has to please its consumers. i think this interrelation explains most of what irritates you about our media and public opinion. and dont forget that our knowledge of china used to be very very little.

But the Chinese media is improving and learning from its mistakes. Take the Sichuan Earthquake this year as an example, the Chinese media had 100% transparency and updated figures practically every minute. This was something that was never seen in China before.
Now back to the western media thing. You may say the Chinese media likes to create propagandas, but tell me, CAN YOU GUARANTEE THAT THE WESTERN MEDIA IS FREE FROM PROPAGANDAS? NO, you can't.

there was and is no 100% transparency (how much coverage was there of the parents who lost their kids in schools and then protested against local responsibles? and that they were beaten by police?). in the end i think the open reporting on sichuan earthquake served as another way for the government making themself look better.

Olympic Torch Relay shall face difficulties everywhere!
There are a lot of people who are angry at "THE RAPE OF TIBET" all over the world.? China is torturing innocent many Tibetan people and murderd and raped Tibetan women.
They shall wave Tibetan flags along the route of Olympic Torch Relay and raise voices in protest against CHINA. The Olympic Torch shall be deprived by people who are eager to crash Beijing Massacre Olympics and the torch shall be stomped on in public.
