Those jumps seem rather solid, what kind of equipment do you have to protect the horse's legs? Do you have to get your horse's legs x-rayed alot? If so how often? Nice video.
Hi Szheherazad: for eventing they put the horses leg protection in a very high priority. they put boots (front and back) and bell boots on. then they put studs in their shoes for traction. they also use what is called "cross country grease" (the white on their legs) that makes it so if they hit fences, they slide more over it then hurting themselves. their legs are check frequently as well yes.
i did that because it was a clip of a man dying /: and i really hate that i put it in there.. :( if you still want to view it, just turn the annotations off
well that' one of the best riding fall compilations i've seen! and as a horse owner, i can also see that most, no, all the falls were due to the rider....
I would like to see an eventer stay on a bull for 8 seconds... Yeah, would neva happen... At least not ever 5th horse breaks its leg in rodeo unlike eventing...
well id like to see a bull rider ride on a xc course over 4ft+ solid obstacles...oh wait that will never happen...and atleast the horses in eventing are never sent to slaughter. and idk if you've noticed, but if bull riding was a real sport, it'd be in the olympics..like eventing.
I agree... I also wanna c somma my friends on a xc or showjumping course, it'd b funny cause any1 who badmouths horseback, yet has never done it should get up there with us and try it for themselves... then maybe they will show a little more respect
A like eventing but this just show hows dangerous it, ubt no one bad mouths eventing unlike rodeos, horses die LESS then eventing horses (well mainly cross country) but still no one gets upset with cross country WTF
it's because a lot of people are interested in eventing and yes people talk bad about it. people dont like rodeos because it requires no riding skill at all. it's just to see who can stay on the longest on a bucking horse who would be on its way to slaughter after the rodeo
Actually riding broncs and bulls takes a lot of skill and training, not to mention a lot more balls then eventing. The horses are well looked after. They are fed constantly, vet checked and what ever a horse would need. They are actually look after better then a lot of pleasure or working horses...
Why did you right don't watch 0:42 till 0:47 ??? i love this vid but i why does it have to be blocked?? please put it back to normal. Cause i showed this vid to my friends and that was wen it was blocked and were sad cause this vid is soo interesting . PLEASE :(
Is there a reason that at 0:51-0:57 there is a blocked part, twice over? I mean if it is scary some okay but let other people decide for themselves because I wanted to see it. That also makes people more intrigued to see what's behind the blockage.
they obviously care about their horses. im an eventer and i care a great amount for my horses.Horses always fall and stumble. Its hust like saying if you stumbled while walking you wouldnt keep goin.. We have to stop if our horses are injured but if they are ok we always keep going..
damn those are some scary falls. I have my fair share of bad falls...shows how hard this sport is. but all the broken bones and bruises are so worth it!!! horses are amazing. :)
this is awesome it show that all sports have there ups and downs this is just the down to this sport but it is great to watch and the horses love it are all the horses ok i mean the ones that looked like the broke their leg
this is just a video of the worst that could happen. at lower levels these kind of things dont happen. as long as u hav a good trainer and ride well, this probably wont happen! :)
I hope more people get hurt or killed. Sorry, it sounds harsh, but it's the only way people will learn that this "sport" is brutal and barbaric toward a gentle creature who never asked to be involved in such brutality.
Yah, these are "freak" accidents, but they are brought on by humans.
Ooh....can't wait for the backlash from all you eventers!! ;-)
this video is good, it shows the truth about riding and how hard it is. I event, and yes, its quite dangerous, but if you think of the thousands and thousands of people that ride every single day, and only seven of them have died from eventing, then truthfully i dont think thats a terrible figure, i mean come on, crap happens and it probably was no ones fault. I love eventing so much, and i reckon my horse would KILL ME if we ever stopped, shes me in horse form ahah
I fell of 4 years ago, on a courses and my right knee popped out it's socket and did a 360 then popped back in. oh yeah my horse fell on top of me then stepped on me getting back up. The horse was fine of course
I keep watching this to remind myself I'm too old to start doing this stuff. My glory days were in my 20s.. my 40s are not a time to start again. I must be having a mid-life crisis or something.
my grandfather used to go to all my competition, he loved it, he got on a horse for the first time in his life at 65, and now he jumps and everything, he doesnt do cross country, but he does jump on a closed square( idont know the name in english) its never too late to start!!
I used to do a lot of cross-country jumping. Not competitional, but the stables nearby had this HUGE cross-country with something like sixty jumps, and I'd use it a lot. But then I started falling :S And this sport really is extremely dangerous! In Norway horseback riding counts as one of the sports with the most deaths per year.
But the first fall -- RESPECT at how the guy just gets up. :D
I really like this video. It shows people just how hard competitive equine events are. Show just how much you have to risk. Thank you for the video it makes me account for quite a few bruises and broken bones >_O
this is mad funny i love wen i go to events wen people fall off unless of course some one is seriously hurt. "its all fun and games till some one gets hurt, then its a sport"

great vidio! keep up the good work. There ere some really nasty falls there especialy when the horses fall on the riders :/ Thats gotta leave a mark!! I love xc and have had a few bad falls, but not as bad as some of these. touch wood. :)
i think the worst one was when the horse fell directly on top of the guy. thats over 1,000 lbs being dropped on top of a person, thats going to leave a mark
Well they tried but some of those horses are really tiny they might need to be trained a little more. But I like how most of the riders will still continue horse back riding.
i totally agree with u! i also hate it tho when ppl think hey kno everything about horses. i mean, kno one knows everythin bout a horse except for the horse. love the vid, keep it up! glad ur into horses too
Great job with the video and kudos to those that can ride cross country! I've tried it but don't have the guts! It's also nice seeing the couple dressage clips, I can relate to those goofs with showing saddlebreds!
The cross country course looked familiar, which Olympics? Barcelona?
I loved those riders, they all seem really good and I know cross country is dangerous, I'd love to do it though... But nahh my pony would more likely get scared of all the things and it'd be horrible...
However, I love this video and totally feel sorry for the second rider wich died...
this is the perfect vid for those people out there that hink horse riding is easy and competing a piece of cake - ill be showing this to my friend who says that to me all the time yet hasnt seen this. He will be badly msitaken :D and will cringe to see what we risk.
Great vid - and the saying "its wat i do' is so true - this is what makes riding worth it - the risk!
No wonder the 1st qualification in an eventing horse is boldness(great heart/courage), 2nd has to be a great partnership/trust with it's rider. I admit I've seen and read of far more deaths and injures for the eventing riders than their horses, like Christopher Reeve. No wonder after seeing this video. Good job! And the solid fences seem far safer than breakaway ones, IMHO.After seeing this I'll go collect Breyer horses...far safer! LOL And, sometimes fence designers make mistakes, big ones.
it seems like the horses fall/refuse at the same jumps! they should try to make the course a little safer! whats the white pasty stuff on the horses legs? the logs r super dangerous! they're not breakaway or anything! those r sad! i hope the horses get extra grain after those!!!!!
It only shows the same jumps because that is all the filming I have and the people filmed at the same jumps. :-P The white pasty stuff is called cross-country grease. So when they hit a fence, they slide over it (not as hard on the horse) instead of getting stuck on the obstacle. And don't worry about if the horses get more grain, they are treated like kings and queens.
Horses wecover just well from most falls.. you wouldnt be 35 and riding for 30 years and walking around like a cripple (like myself - truly..TRULY- no LOL), if you didn't take ENORMOUS care of your horses. Yes there is danger, but is a give and take, like there has been with man/animal for thousands of years... Plz keep the vid UP -Glad you keep the 'abusers' addicts off the page. IF THEY ONLY KNEW?!
great video!! but i am soo against this sport..

I feel sad for some of the horses and rider
pawpower12 3 years ago
i think the worst one was when the horse fell directly on top of the guy. thats over 1,000 lbs being dropped on top of a person, thats going to leave a mark
flyforevercardinal 3 years ago
Well they tried but some of those horses are really tiny they might need to be trained a little more. But I like how most of the riders will still continue horse back riding.

crystalsnow28: Do you know anything about the horses? Have you riddent them? Do you know their age? Do you know their height?
Didn't think so. Stop acting like George Morris =D

Great job with the video and kudos to those that can ride cross country! I've tried it but don't have the guts! It's also nice seeing the couple dressage clips, I can relate to those goofs with showing saddlebreds!
The cross country course looked familiar, which Olympics? Barcelona?

The refusals are pretty good. I love the one at 2:14 were the horse is like ummm where did you want me to go tard? haha
OTPgoodnightmoon 3 years ago
I loved those riders, they all seem really good and I know cross country is dangerous, I'd love to do it though... But nahh my pony would more likely get scared of all the things and it'd be horrible...
However, I love this video and totally feel sorry for the second rider wich died...

Most famous eventing horses are small.... like 15.2ish

this is the perfect vid for those people out there that hink horse riding is easy and competing a piece of cake - ill be showing this to my friend who says that to me all the time yet hasnt seen this. He will be badly msitaken :D and will cringe to see what we risk.
Great vid - and the saying "its wat i do' is so true - this is what makes riding worth it - the risk!
NicKeta2 3 years ago
Wonderful vid! Thanks.
I love the refusals above all... the horses are like, "Are you F***ing kidding me?"

LOL And, sometimes fence designers make mistakes, big ones.

hey great vid, vive le cross! i love it.
shame there isn't more dressage, who is the pair at 5:50? what a disaster! hah
i admire the rider at 7:05, clinging on like that, although the horse saved his ass, no doubt
and 7:20! jesus! i would kill to ride a horse with as big a heart, he smacked into the water and just kept on going, bravo!
i love cross country! need more be said?
much affection to all horsey people on youtube xx

Roberto macedo on...Not sure bout the horse lol
stupidblond428a 3 years ago
at 4:00 the guy goes over it one handed! have to be pretty brave to take on a huge fence like that one handed. but thats probs why it didnt work...
pandalover952 3 years ago
A lot of people go over fences one-handed in cross-country :-)
stupidblond428a 3 years ago
its sorta weird how the horses leap up and the riders just lie there.
pinkweaselgirl 3 years ago
it seems like the horses fall/refuse at the same jumps! they should try to make the course a little safer! whats the white pasty stuff on the horses legs? the logs r super dangerous! they're not breakaway or anything! those r sad! i hope the horses get extra grain after those!!!!!
ishouldvebeenahorse 3 years ago
