  • "The story you're about to see is a skit. The letters are changed to protect the alphabet".

  • Letter 'W' As Letter 'M'

    LOL

  • Sgt. Thursday:(furious): SOMEBODY STOP THAT LETTER!!!!!!

  • Long Live Jim Henson!!!!!!

  • RIP Jim Henson

  • FTW

  • LOL

  • Poor Letter 'W'

  • Poor Ben

  • Poor Sgt. Thursday

  • Even to this day I still wonder what the W was wanted for in the first place but with impersonating an M he comitted a big crime like DVD piracy.

  • @moatguy: And with "Law and Order: Special Letters Unit" released a few seasons ago (with an M as the missing letter, though it didn't try the upside-down trick)...I can't help wondering whether the SLU cops finally solved that W's case. :-)

  • This sketch takes place in Alphabet City.

  • From 1974.

  • He's wanted for waging war against Kermit in another skit about the letter "W"

  • @NATED0Go33 You mean the one from a 1969 episode.

  • @JasonMC72 Haha!

  • @NATED0Go33 That's before that letter "W" painted himself blue and had eyes put on. That letter "W" never even saw the film "Face/Off" and he donned quite an ingenious disguise! :)

  • It's 1974.

  • Oh, this is great! Good Dragnet parody! I started smiling and chuckling when they realized that the W was disguising himself as an M.

Sgt. Thursday's got a cool voice.

  • Don't think Joe Friday would of fallen for that.

  • I loved this bit as a kid! This was when SS was genuinely clever and entertaining, instead of cute and sickeningly innocuous like it is today.

  • One of the many skits I enjoyed and happy to see again.

  • The background looks like a Hopper painting.

  • That letter W can not only pretend to be a letter M but can also pretend to be an odd shaped letter E if he laid down sideways or an oddly shaped number 3.

  • it can not be day shift since its dark out when he goes to the window and the street as well

  • Well, he could have clocked in for the day shift and by the time he was about to sign out for the day it was dark; either that or he was just wrapping up another case when that call came in.

  • Or the L could lie back on its corner and call itself a V. A 7 couldn't make a sound.

  • Sgt Thursday:Excuse me but are you the number 9?

    9:Er what's to tell ya?

Sgt Thursday::We're policemen we'd like a word with you.

9:Er well er ya see there must be some mistake police.I'm a 6. But er if I see a 9 anywhere I'll tell him you're looking for him huh? So long!

  • 'Hey, Ben, there's a J. And look what he's doing!'

'Yeah... let's give him a ticket for J walking.'

  • @DiAnno13 LOL

  • That's a Wii.

    (A 'W' with two i's.)

  • While both versions of Dragnet were over when this was made, Jack Webb was producer another cop show called Adam 12.

SS should of considered doing a spoof of that one as well.

  • Now they can also charge him with impersonating an M. That's a capital crime!

  • Only if he's imitating capital letters!

  • @DiAnno13 OMG!

  • I adore any of the sketches involving Jim Henson. His classic voice is heard when the W eludes the police. "Uh, what's it to ya?" Love it. "Well there must be some mistake, officer. See, I'm an 'M'. See? Mmm. M-mm!" Classic! Could be mistaken, but I think he is also doing the voice of the blue detective.

  • Yes.

  • Great clip. It would have been interesting to see one made using the letter L, since it was the other wanted poster.

  • It's probably the L from "Rebel L".

  • Now if they did one with L, then it would probably disguise itself as a 7.

  • Why were they looking for W?

  • When this was posted 2 years ago by another user, one of the comments said that they were looking for W for tackling Kermit in the sketch where he was talking about W.

  • If the names and faces were changed to protect the innocent, I wonder what the real letter was...

Great clip! Thanks for reposting it!

  • ah..now this takes me back....

  • Great Classic Sesame Street Video I Hope Its in the 2nd Volume of Old School Sesame Street :} again Great Find :}

  • It won't be unfortunetly.

  • @wattamack4 I wist this classic sketch was in a Sesame Street Old School DVD Set as well. It should have been.

  • @wattamack4 No, but there's a chance we may be seeing it on DVD this Summer. Who knows?

  • @Garrettk41 IDK

  • @cstoczyn Well, IK. It was indeed released on the Sesame Street Spoofs DVD. The first cut, in fact.

  • @Garrettk41 But This Skit Was Uncut In The All-Star Alphabet DVD!

  • @cstoczyn I've heard tell.

  • @Garrettk41 MMM HMM

  • W use to be my favorite letter. I'm glad that you put this video back on YouTube. When I was little about 6 years old, I use to have a letter W with eyes on it.

  • Using film noir to teach the kids letters. Amazing!

  • Thank you for putting this on. This one has been posted and removed twice.

  • That W is a master of disguise!
