Its supposed to lock your windows like pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL and selecting Lock Computer in Windows XP. What version of Windows do you have, it maybe your version or configuration.

Have you tested playing the game without connecting or testing connecting to different servers, sound like you need a internet connection tweak, or your ISP is slow for games.
