just had a near death experience when my kayak overturned and submerged 3km out. last time i go fishing alone. there was no way to bail, longest hardest swim of my life.
I'd recommend placing the paddle float over the blade and fastening it before inflating it. Less chance of letting go of it or the paddle when they're attached to each other.
I recommend using a paddle leash attached to your kayak, in the event you capsize during gusty wind conditions, so you kayak doesn't blow away faster than you can swim....
well wen i flip in the the middle of a lake i dont wanna stay in the water for too long AT ALL cause its deep and iunno whats under me, im petrofied of deep water unless im in a pool I JUST JUMP THE FUCK ON THAT KAYAK WEATHER ITS UPSIDE DOWN OR NOT
there are some things I would do differently. There are bungies behind the cockpit to hold the paddle, so you dont have to. I would also come up in front of the paddle (but that may just be preference.) and finally, I like the idea of holding onto the boat with your legs, but if you get on top of the over turned boat it gets you out of the water. lessening the chances of hypothermia.
I disagree with the way flipping the boat over was taught. I prefer using the "pump and dump" technique where the boat is lifted from the bow and the water is emptied from the boat.
