Geez, if it's not The Beatles vs. The Rolling Stones on You Tube, it's The Beatles vs. The Beach Boys! O.K., let's one thing straight, The Beach Boys could SING CIRCLES around anybody including The Beatles and Brian had (and still has) an amazing ear for arranging. But there's no taking away from what The Beatles could do with their amazing talents. I can't compare "Pet Sounds" with "Revolver" because they are two completely different amazing albums. Just let it stay at that!
That Paul Mc Cartney's favorite song is "God Only Knows" and his favorite album, "Pet Sounds," should tell you something. Both groups deserve their promient place in music--and Brian deserves to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as an individual, just as Paul and John are. The BB harmonies were so terrific in those early days--and none of the group had any formal training. It's really an amazing story. It was all about singles (45's) in those early days...and they kept putting 'em out.
Speaking about the comments comparing The Beach Boys and The Beatles I think they have no comparison at all! You can say they both started the same way and on the same direction but they obviously diverged very quickly in 1965 with the release of The Beatles' Rubber Soul. The Beatles had a most avant garde position in pop culture, The Beach Boys remained the same surf oriented pop rock and when Brian tried to change that he was pushed away. Very sad.
@John1948OneC2 hahaha well, we have different opinions but I'm glad we're talking about two of the greatest bands of all times! :D Long Live Rock N Roll!!
@John1948OneC2 I was raised with both, and though it's all a matter of opinion, The Beatles blow everyone else out. The Beach Boys hold a candle, yes, but The Beatles have the bonfire. I mean, come on,... as a matter of volume of high quality song output.
@ToolsnFire There is no doubt that the Beatles put out more recordings. That certainly doesn't make them better. In fact a large percentage of what the Beatles put out was subpar because of putting qunatity ahead of quality. After a short time of touring the bEatles decided to stop the live performances. I suppose that contributed to their putting out music in such quanities. Anyway, I prefer the Beach Boys but the Beatles were also a great group.
@John1948OneC2 No, I said the volume of high quality output. The Beach Boys only hold a birthday cake or two of high quality output. The Beatles, - a bonfire of high quality output. No contest.
I don't know, it's actually impossible to top Pet Sounds in terms of quality, innovation, consistency, yadda yadda. I'm really excited for SMiLE. I hope it's followup to Pet Sounds I've wanted...
I only wish the interview was longer. Thank goodness for Dick Clark, Ed Sullivan, and others like them who would bring great acts onto their stages!! It gave us teens something to watch on TV besides lawrence welk. lol
I love the Beatles, but if they'd been from America and the Beach Boys from London, and if the BB were properly promoted, this country would cherish the Beach Boys songs AND admire the group of 5 an order of magnitude above the Beatles. Sound-wise? Beach Boys. Talent-in-a-single-person? B. Wilson, FTW; Per the Beatles' Producer. My complaint is the then-and-now disparity between the admiration the Beatles still get in pop culture/media vs. the credit Wilson's skills and the BB sound deserve.
@Fab5Frenchies There's really no comparing the two groups seriously; its a little complicated. Rock-n-Roll is an American invention, the Beatles & Beach Boys both conceived a 'modern' sound that hadnt existed before. I believe it was McCartney who gave credit to the Beach Boys for the Beatle sound somewhat(someone can fact check that). The Beatles built upon the created sounds of The Beach Boys & took it further; understanding the timeline of what was recorded when, makes it obvious.
Forever legendary American music, often underrated and pushed into the shadow of the beatles who were dominating at the time, but beach boys actually hit the top of the charts a few times during beatle-mania, not easy to do back then
I would say the backing track and Brian's lead are from the studio recording - I think the backing vocals are done live - they do not look comfortable lip synching
@hollywoodchase I those days mike were either on a stand or on an overhead boom. The booms were only seen if the crew was sloppy. How ever in this case they were probably lip-synching.
i love the beach boys so much!!!

Love them both but for me The Beatles are #1

@edixavi I disagree. I think the Beatles were at their best in their early days. The further they moved to the "avant garde" the less I like them.
