The Australian Staff work in this campaign was wholly inadequate most of the time and they had not yet learnt to stand up to higher command as later happened in France.

I am a proud grand Nephew of three men of the 10th Btn A.I.F (South Australia) who were the among the first ashore on the 25th of April. Respect and honour also to the brave and fearless Turk defending his homeland. All three survived Gallipoli to fight in France. Uncle John was killed in France, Billy was MIA (probably blown to bits by a shell or drowned in the mud). Only Monty returned. I remember him as a very young child telling me about Gallipoli. RIP to all.

the Turks were idiots during the FWW. Believing in WW1 Germany was a joke. they were mislead and had a very unfair advantage. the ANZACs were facing uneven odds and still fought to the death. They were brave and remarkable soldiers who were inexperineced but still a very good outfit. May all who died at ANZAC rest in peace.

For the British and French surely this was a disater. But for the Turks this was a glorious victory.

In one part 500 Turks held back and whole regiment of British soldiers at a mountain.

what most people forget, was that it was a side show.. in affect, taking the turks, and then istanbul was fine.. cept they would stay there fighting the austro-hungarian empire.. gallipoli was a total defeat.. it is perhaps, never a good thing to say, that the spirit of a unified nation is born.. not through words, uttered in the eyes of liberty and hopes of the hapless masses, but the blood of the children of that nation.. whilst we dine, we shall endeavorer, to mourn..

The peninsula should have been taken, unless the ANZACS weren't so badly organized. Note that the main population of the peninsula was christian greek at the time and they were quite frightened by the turkish army. The ANZACS would have liberated them too, but history turned wrong... Krithia, Maitos, Gallipoli, Boulair, Findikli were greek towns/villages.

i think zaandam40 wanna say that Turks could fight to the bitter end like Turkish War of Independence..Ottoman was not captured but surroundered after Germany did because of lack of weapon and money. we fought against the alliance.not only french,greek,italian,russian and british, also against to our armenian and arab citizens..
