I don't think its that he necessarily has the fastest hands or the best technical skill, but what makes his solo great is that they don't sound like random notes, but an thought or idea put into music.

Dude, just get a Mexican Strat and pick up some new pick ups(about $120). It'll save you about 300 dollars. Then you could pick up some Sperzel Locking Tuners ($60), and your guitar would be as sweet as an American strat

Too many people think tone come from amp, pedal and guitar alone, but others also attribute the player too much aswell.

I think it's clearly a combination of the two, with the actual guitar tone weighing the most.
