randomly found this. I really am not looking forward to dealing with clients like this. lol. I'm a first year vet tech student seriously considering research at this point. haha. I'm not sure i could have bit my tongue long enough to not go off on her.
@czerniana I have been working emergency and specialtly medicine for almost 8 years now, this is a VERY common thing. Now I'm studying to go into research.
Yup, this is the way many 'responsible pet owners' behave. I've been a groomer, a vet tech, and a trainer. Got burned out on all of them because of the idiocy I had to deal with every single day. More power to the ones who can stick with it.
How often do you get idiots like this? I want to be a Vet Tech, but I'm not that good with people. I would totally lose patience with a moron like this.
@HipHopJun , Unfortunately, all too often. You DO have to have a lot of patience to work in the field. I think it helps to keep in mind that while you are there to treat a client's pet, you are also there to partially educate (as much as you can).
@Koop89 Well, I'm STILL a veterinary technician. I'd rather not post my hourly rate though. Let's just say it's definitely enough to live on by myself, but not great if you want to buy a house.
so i may be getting my old job back as a vet tech. its been a year since i left the field to travel the world. and this was a painful reminder of what i will have to deal with when i get back. ugggh FML!
@theonlyzdog Haha...yeah, it can be frustrating at times. The best advice I can give is to never treat the owner as if they're stupid, even though they may be. Just be patient and do the best you can at recommending the best care!
Wow... someone really did that, or is it sort of a montage of experiences? Doesn't touch the ground? Poor chihuahua. Our Shih-tzu takes ten mile nature hikes and LOVES it.
Ahh It's so funny to see all the other vet techs in here commenting on this. I, too, am a vet tech/receptionist and have been for over 8 years and this is completely accurate. It's seriously not a joke, I almost had to have a glass of wine to calm my nerves after watching...O_O
Haha, worked as a tech through college, and this is SO accurate. We could never say this to their faces, but clients in general are SO FUCKING STUPID.
"I just noticed it". LOL! We hear that nonsense pretty much daily. And the WebMD bullshit. And gullible idiots buying into "alternative" medicines and foods. And the "I love Precious...IT'S GOING TO COST HOW MUCH?"
This is perfect. I wish it were the 1940's when people weren't so oversensitive and we could tell these people how stupid they are.
> We hear that nonsense pretty much daily. And the WebMD bullshit.
> And gullible idiots buying into "alternative" medicines and foods.
It's not all BS - glucosamine seems to work with my dog, of course I really don't know. And also one of my dogs has a growth on his liver, inoperable - not metastatic, and I swear to god the only thing he can digest is cottage cheese and rice. ALT levels are through the roof. Got any suggestions as to what else he can eat?
@endornify Glucosamine and chondroitin are not "alternative medicine". They didn't start out as some silly Eastern Religion snake oil scam, nor were they some kind of native remedy. They're legitimate drugs that were developed and put into use by actual doctors from the beginning. They work because they're a result of actual science rather than some mystical hokum.
Sorry, you'd have to ask a veterinarian about that diet issue.
@Supermassively Glucasamine has never been put through clinical trials. Who knows if it really works, I don't really care, it's cheap, it SEEMS to work. That's alternative medicine to me, because it's based on anecdotal evidence, not scientific evidence.
Also, cottage cheese and rice - it's kept my dog alive for 2 years. If I try to feed him dog food of any sort, it's just diarrhea until I quit. Even if the food isn't nutritionally complete, I'm kind of stuck with it.
I work at a vet and showed my Boss this...He was laughing in the office for a good 10 minutes LOL. But I nearly see this every day. Oh I also love it (this has happened more then once). Some people seem to believe that a distemper shot will take care of the dogs "bad temper."
@GoAskMalice Yup! I'm a vet assistant at an animal rescue center that does low-cost vaccination clinics. I get asked about that "temperament" shot all the time! ;D
Oh god...the spay conversation, the spaghetti...exactly why I work night shift as a tech ;) LOVE this.
