this isn't an actual "crash test." the ADAC (German motorist club) got hold of this old T3, put lots of weight in the bed and ran it into a wall at some ridiculous speed. they did that when they first opened their new crash test facilities to show off for the press.

I heard that this was actually a test of the TESTING facility rather than the car itself. So yeah, there might as well have been a 2 tonne weight in the back. The Westfalia seems to be doing just fine on both European as well as American roads. I think it would do equally well in Asia.
