Absolutly fantastic band. I love that arrangement. I was surprised by the tempo, but the leader is great, and knows his guies so well. The saxes section is perfect, so swinging and relax. Great pleasure, can't stop earing it. A great fun to look at that youg musicians...

Our Jazz Ensemble played "Groove Merchant" this year, and if only we could have sounded like this! This sax section is simply phenomenal.

i dont think they take clarinet for jazz band, but they also have concert band and orchestra and they take clarinets for that...but im not sure how you try out.

Clarinets can do jazz. It's a lot harder than concert playing though, and not many people do it. They play similar riffs as the alto saxes.

Clarinets can do jazz, but there aren't any here. Those are soprano saxes.

Clarinet usually a doubling instrument for a big band, so if you audition, you have to play sax. you can tell them you double on clarinet. They have a website I believe, or you can just google it.

The Vandoren Optimum ligature is good, but its better for concert band and classical sounds. Rovners are usually better for Jazz.

You have it all wrong dude. The rovners that they are using are the DK rovners which are usually concert rovners. The Optimum I'm using is basically restricted ONLY to jazz. The four dots on my plate gives it the bright loud sound. Not mellow and covered like the rovners. The only jazz rovner I would actually use for jazz would be the Eddie Daniels rovner. Next you would probably tell me the Ultimate ligature is the best concert ligature ever made.

ok, this is a shot in the dark but..they're playing a lot of blues scales so it's probly just a blues scale with a bunch of half steps crammed in there. He goes down then up then down then up past where he started a maj 2nd. There's not really any big intervals except when he goes down the first time from the top of the scale he jumps back up what seems like a 5th and continues down then up, etc. Just take what you hear and slow it down in your head.
