Ford just seemed to lose interest in advertising and marketing Crown Vic's and Mercury Marquis. Must have been due to the US Gov. regulated automobile fleet mileage requirements? It's really too bad as Americans still want large vehicles, demonstrated by the sales for US made trucks and SUV's. Looks like I will never sell my 2008 Marquis, thanks Congress, I will never drive a truck!
big, handsome cars. this was back in the days when the advertising agencies incorporated catchy logos and slogans to identify the various product lines. Pontiac had the "v", Olds the jet, Lincoln the star, etc. hardly any brand identification anymore, let alone commercials for cars. in addition, the accountants ("suits"), have cut costs so much that there is very little individualistic style and flare in cars. sad.
I remember a lot of the "Sign of the Cat" ads for Lincoln-Mercury that featured the live, growling cougar. In a previous video, it was a change of pace to see a kitty cat atop the Lincoln-Mercury sign.
I wish an American car maker would bring back a two-door hardtop model. Only the expensive makes still offer them like Mercedes and the new Rolls Royce Phanton 2-door hardtop coupe.
@lasuvidaboy I do too, but with the new roll over standards they needed that center post to help hold the roof up in a roll over crash. They keep making the 4 door hardtops, or GM did after 72. My dad had a 1974 Impala Sport Sedan. Chevy call it the sport sedan, it did not have the center post that you got if you go the Impala 4 door sedan. In 73 GM went to the opera window on the two door, for more support in a roll over crash.
I'd be so proud to drive that beautiful beast today vs anything else out there.

RIP Mercury.
Although by killing off Merc Ford should have kept Volvo

Killing Mercury was a really dumb idea, even though their last few years were mediocre at best.

I was 5 years old when I seen the Lincoln commercials, and I'm now 44. And I still love the cougar!

I thought the 1969 Monterey's were just as classy looking as the Mercury Marquis/Lincoln Continental's of the same era, beautiful cars.

I think the actor who is the salesmen is Dan Resin, he did a lot of commercials in the 60's and 70's

Who was the W.C. Fields impersonator? Quite well done!
farouki22 3 years ago
Ahh, Ford had the sound of the cat back and the voiceover was Ernie Anderson.

For some reason the dealer's voice almost reminds me of Vernon Dent (he was one of the regular supporting actors for the Three Stooges)

In my opinion one of the best cars made!

The late 60's and early 70's was a great era for the way many american cars were styled.
RAS4915 3 years ago 3
I totally agree with you on that, I thought the late 1960s/early 1970s were the best era of cars of all time.

A great commercial with a W.C. Fields impersonator. They also have Groucho Marx, Jimmy Durante and other celebrity imersonators doing cars as well.
