Underground's always been there. Hip Hop hasn't been presented properly in mainstream music since 2003.
I haven't fucked wit mainstream since 2003. And truth is, 70% of underground MCs are overhyped, or dare I say....OVERRATED. Can't go wrong with the 90s.
Rap/Hip-hop or any form of music should be poetry not that bullshit nonsense put out now and days. If you feel real shit search my video "Early Bird- Who I Am" and peep it, started poetry at 12 now at 22 I do my best to put it down correct. Any criticism is cool wither it be good or bad, especially from people who appreciate poetry. PEACE
the whole downloading thing is a MUSIC problem not just a hip hop problem.........The radio dont play Hip Hop it play that BULLSHIT ass RAP MUSIC!!!!
RAP AINT HIP HOP!!!!!
Hip Hop aint Dead.....it just went back underground away from the RADIO!!!
and if anybody want to hear some real old school hip hop from some real old school MC's.......check my channel out.
Thanks for posting this video clip on here. It makes a lotta sense. Now I see why one of the four elements of Hip Hop(namely Rap) has been dead since Puffy made selling out the in thing. From there,it contuinued to go on and so forth.
u kno whats crazy doe. as much as niggas sayin its too many wack niggas in the game and hip hop dying n shit, but they not doin anything to help. if u think hip hop is dead save it nigga. sittin on the side bitchin aint gonna do nothin bout it. u talkin about how much deez niggas suck and u cant spit one good bar. at least be a decent rapper if u gonna talk shit. otherwise stfu
To be real I think the digital age replacing analog is what killed it. It started off with scratching records and these days they don't even use records. The BEATS are shit. Forget the rhymes, the rhymes are lacking because the beats are soft
HEY check it torrents and downloads are not bad, hate to break it to you but without torrents there was no way for a mass amount of people to access information of vital importance, i'm talkin bout how information or documents that are meant to be covered up are exposed so corruption is harder for the vultures, so hate hip hops state if you will but dont hate on "illegal" downloading, if musicians suffer off it then they shud learn to take the hit.... shiiiiiit
if u think about it hip hop goes through trends. in the 80's hip hop was all about mc'ing and very political. 90's was gangsta rap. 2000's was all bout dances which fucking blows. im all bout the old school rap. game and ice cube is where its at
I respect your opinion, however, hip hop is not dead. Guys like J. Cole, XV, Lloyd Banks, Lupe Fiasco, Joe Budden and Joell ortiz keep hip hop alive. It's just a matter of time before people realize whats real and whats bull shit
@rnjblast773 when people say hip hop is dead they mean people not trying to listen to it, not that its actually dead.. of course its niggas way better than J Cole, J cole even sold out for a 360 deal, so he basically sold out..
Whatever happened to the kids? They gone soft. Back in the 80's and 90's we had gang wars, we had real gangstarap, we were tough. Today kids fight over the internet with XBOX. Someone needs to school the kids what real society and rap is again. I tired of this weakened hip pop bullshit!
I think the difference is not just that the lyrics back then were more socially aware. It seemed that the artist cared more about the verses and not the hook (chorus). Now it is all about the hook (chorus) and very little about the verse.
This trend will continue and we "old schoolers" will be looked upon as just that; OLD. It is a shame to see artists who don't give a shit about how they sound or whether their lyrics are on point, so long as all the screaming 16 year olds are worshipping them. This is a sad state of affairs and it is NOT just music, it's TV, internet, life, communication, social interaction, etc. The gradual "dumbing down" of America is well on its way and I hope to leave this shithole before it gets worse.
Hip hop and rap are dead because of this.... This new generation of 'pop" culture that we are seeing is fucking brainwashed! They listen to the garbage that comes on the radio, spend countless hours on Facebook, Twitter, etc. and watch bullshit like "reality" TV. They will never accept real hip hop because they are programmed to live in a world where ingenuity is non-existent. Unfortunately, these people are who artists are making the most money from, so they cater to them.
@BOBBiEiAM1 guess what i can drop any type of video i want and i get paid for it....you got your opinion i got mind so why you bitching? you might like nike i might like timberlands more who cares....

NEVER hip hop aint never dead u cant kill hip hop wtf shut yo mouth!....man this is bs ppl sayin hip hop is dead hip hop is music man i dnt matter wat money we makin hip hop is very well alive
@BOBBiEiAM1 thats your opinion i got my own....if you think its not dead good for you .....i think its dead cuz everyone making music now is crap....i only listen to the old rappers its only 5 new rappers thats cool but they wont drop
@Boss11212 well dmx and big pun were in the game around 1997-1998 and nas released nastradamus around 1999, i think 2003 is when hip hop got misrepresented to the new generation
it depends on what you consider "dead", i find new hip hop everyday, i find new music in general everyday and i make new hip hop everyday so it aint dead to me.
@ThatOneGuy107 the beats all sound the same... the reason hip hop is dead is because they rap about the same thing, they use the same lyrics, and they use the same beats. people are sick of it.
@ThatOneGuy107 nah i wouldnt say the beats are fuckin amazing, they used to be amazing, theres still some shit out there thats kool but nobody is doin it more real than Damu The Fudgemunk, hes the most realest hiphop producer in the game right now, noone can compare and compete.. he keeps it real like it should be done!!
@ThatOneGuy107 yea but the beats aint as good as they used to be and the mcs aint as good as they used to be.. shit most of the just talk over a beat they dont even rhyme to the beat no more. shit is wack

hip hop is dead is a lame slogan created by the same system that created the east west beef keep playin into it you lames open up your ears and stop actin like a bunch of hoes on your period its somethin for everybody from mf doom to gucci mane yall bitches lazy cryin like some hoes
But I couldn't find their mixtapes on amazon or anywhere so I downloaded those but all those artists I named, I purchased every single one of their albums & I still have more artists to purchase such as Boogie Down Productions, Melle Mel, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Kool Mo Dee, Grand Master Caz, LL Cool J, Chuck D, Lauryn Hill, Queen Latifah, Kool G Rap, Treach, Method Man, Ice Cube, MC Lyte, Redman, Ras Kass, CAZ The Cenius, Will Smith, Busta Rhymes & Heavy D. There are way more than that though.
Also I wanted to say, this video was funny as fuck, expecially the ending. I own all of 2Pac, Biggie, Jay-Z, Nas, Scarface, Eminem, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Tech N9ne, Outkast, Lil Wayne, Beastie Boys, Canibus, AZ, Big L, Big Pun, Common, KRS-One, Immortal Technique, RA The Rugged Man & Diabolic's CD's. I didn't download them, I purchased all of them. I still got so much to buy too. The only shit that I downloaded was Lil Wayne's mixtapes & Eminem's Straight from the lab.
I personally don't mind hip hop being at an all time low at the moment. I'm very new to hip hop so I have time to listen to all these old school rappers that I never got to listen to before. Time to catch up on your history & if you don't want to do that, find the underground rappers & buy their shit cause that shit blows away mainstream.
i like this video and it is true ive been downloading music since i was like 10 i have only bought 1 song since then and that was because i could not find a torrent for it and now im 19 i dont see the point in buying half of these songs that come out most of em are carbage and fuel racial stereotypes against blacks
@roxasx80 those are just a few people out of all the rappers out there to me what your saying is like saying the human race is not dieing whenever theres only three people left on the planet you me and some bitch im not trying to bash your comments im just giving you my opinion
hip hops not dead, mainstream is dead but b.o.b's doin a pretty good job of bringing it back. i dont blame myself, i dont blame limewire, i blame gangsta rap
Yes I agree. Mainstream/Commercial hip hop is dead. I don't think that 'real' hip-hop is a genre that can survive in the mainstream, it just doesn't appeal to the masses. They don't understand what hip hop is.
It's the same reason breakdancing cannot be mainstream. The masses don't understand what breakdancing is, the musicality behind it (eg: Killing the beat). You show it to some 50 year old who has never seen breakdancing and he doesn't understand it. All he sees is flashy moves.
Hip Hop also died because lazy people started getting famous for low quality work. We have people thinking they're badass "gangstas", but I guarantee if any of them were asked to enlist in the army, MAYBE one would do it. The rest would go hide under their 8-bit tracks and lazy rhymes.
Commercial Hip hop is dead not Underground Hip Hop it's very much alive. Do some research on Amazon and find REAL fucking rappers they out there. Not these fuckin Bubble gum Club banger fake ass rappers. Support real Hip Hop Fuck The Mainstream.
i download and buy, sometimes i still keep them in the shrink wrap like nas and mos def, brotha lynch hung, i dont wante to scratch the disk lol they are valuable to me
Hiphops shit all they go on about is guns and whos bigger then who its not even music its crap thats why its dead. Hiphops for kids and chavy teenagers people with no taste of music...
@masonizere what the fuck u smokin on? have u ever listened to a 2pac or krs-one or a nas record?the songs they made are untouchable and have a meaning...and hip hop today is basically dead..everyone is faking just to get paid with the exception of a few guys who rap for a meaning..but yea man fuck all that dancing bullshit..that shit is for kids
Listen to yourself all 2pac goes on about in his songs is him getting shot or something to do with gangs...who cares... There is no meaning in hiphop when rapping about guns, ghetto and money its just crap same boring shit....Dance music for kids ha ha all you see is chavs and kids on there phones listening to hiphop or rap going around in their hoodies trying to mc ... Trance and dance music is for adults no kids in clubs or venues with half naked ladys on poles and dancing in foam parties....
@masonizere wow man are you serious???you are a typical hater of hip hop and 2pac...go listen to "life goes on" "dear mama" and "keep ya head up" by 2pac and come tell me all hip hop is garbage..just cuz all these new guys rap about the same bullshit don't mean everyone does..now trance and dance is all bullshit for fuckin E-heads..dont ever say 2pac's songs didnt have meaning..listen first.
wrong and ignorant...u described rap music not hiphop...underground emcees are way more talented and make real music...what u see and hear on tv and the radio is not the true reflection of hiphop.
ayo homie hip hop was never for the money it was for hip hop wayne and drake are shit they let it go to there head and waka flocka and gucci are too simple minded to listen to, pharcyde and a tribe called quest would never sell like soulja boy thats why hip hop is dead because what was meant for the club and little house parties took over our whole culture
none of these "MC's" care about there lyrics and thats why hip hop as a culture is fucking dead and it hurts yo
As it was in the beginning, so shall it be in the end.......America loves to build up your head and then tear you down....sorry for the artists that fell for it....but it's all good cuz' the real Hip Hop is underground and on the streets, it ain't got nothin' to do with McMansions and new dances...fads die.....souls are eternal..dig it?
Blame the fucking Record companies. Creativity and new ideas that make rap so sick aren't being tested because there is no guarantee it will sell records. If you can pick a rapper off the street, autotune his voice to a dance song and sell millions of records, why would you allow that artist to try and do something new and untried? It's all about money gentlemen!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i dont think hip hops dead, i think its just hip hop is changing into a new generation. it kinna seems like the ppl saying hip hop is dead listened to the old school rap
i dont think download killed hip hop. sure, it does decline record sales, like 50's album got leaked a month ahead, he only sold 150k. but thats not just hip hop, thats music, so you talk about hip hop dying, ur wrong, cuz its music dying. i personally dont see a problem with it, we want the music as fast as we can, its a new generation where no one listens to cd's no more. 90% of rappers wouldve done the same thing to save their 9.99, shit em nas and game have confessed to stealing cd's.
i wish the fugees get back 2getha 4real they where the shit back n da day fuck all theze whack rappers, lil wayne soulja boy, gucci mane, rick ross, shorty low flow rida t-pain man all the garbage maintsream pussies thats fucking up hiphop yo rnb is dead too
o and lets talk about these"gangster" rappers bitching boo hoo someones stealing my music..
thug life~ Lol u fucken jokes. i wouldnt even waste my memory downloading that garbage now a days...i was a hardcore hip hop head ever since i can remember. sad to say i listen to rock now... yea i know rock..... after snoop came out w sexual seduction. I was like Oh Hayllle nah!
Fuck what dis nigga sayin I Blame the following:Soulja Boy,New boyz,GS boys, etc with all dem gay ass dances. They killed hip hop and they get signed by dumb asses that dont know talent. Real Shit
i use limewire all the time because there is no talent no more. on limewire if i here someone i like i always buy the cd to have there complete art work. hiphop is not about money, its about the music. further more hiphop is not dead, its ownly underground in peaces. its just dead in mainstream because they made it a mony game and not a art game.
Really, it's only a matter of time that it's gonna come back around. These spoiled emo kids get tired of superficial music too. TV & Radio and labels will die, internet will survive so don't worry good music will return. Maybe already in the next decade. 2010 for the win! :D
hip hop isnt dead ya bunch of FOOLS!! it just turned CORPORATE.. its all about money not so much about talent or the art or poetry of it being from the streets.. just let it go people.. once again.. BIG BUSIness is ruining what once was the peoples..
fuck i agree with you,not all rappers in the underground are good, in fact theres probably more crap rappers than good rappers, san antonio has a bunch of crap rappers, back where im from in oxnard 805, the only great hip hop rappers where lootpack, the rest were all about gangbanging and all that crap,
hip hop is dead, totally agree nothing genuine all they care about is money and rep and like dre or p diddy when you grow older your gonna realise that your bullshit you made before about the hood and whatever is just angry childish talk and fucking pointless and the same again and again. Promoters makes music and they left all this shit along time ago because it got oldd
hip hop is far from dead, man. search underground. its unbelievable. the talent is actually stronger than ever. its just not popular. but thats not to say it doesnt exist. open your eyes
Rap/HipHop is dying out with a generation that's seeing it for what it is: uneducated, high school drop-out niggers that can't make a difference in the world and instead must whine about how hard their lives were in a form of "entertainment" that shouldn't be called music.
Djs like me are settling for making videos, or mixes for You Tube or Myspace. We are still around, but most of us are just spinnin at home, not being heard. I've been away from the clubs for 7 years. You Tube has me back mixin again lol. : )
I hear everything you say, and you are right on point! The music of now frustrates me, and people frustrate me more! There is still good Hip Hop out there, but the majority of the people don't care. Hip Hop is back underground where it started. There are quite a few Djs like me that mix beats. Always lookin for somethin fresh. But most mainstream people would leave my party to go to a party where the Dj is just playin Lil Wayne, Stanky Leg, or whatever is on the radio over and over again.
I think it is 2 factors, One nobody wants to buy cd's any more, me being one of them but i use itunes. And 2 you got bicth as rappers like Gucci man and Lil wayne that make me turn away from rap all together.
Watch the Roots video 'What They Do'. Today's rapper's priorities are wrong. Back in the day it was about the love and creativity for the music, now it's about the money. Back then it was about creative competition, you can't be inspired by artists like Souljah or T-pain. Also the downloading killed album sales. Back the underground & commercial artist were good. Now only the underground is.
All the OLD SKOOL people know what's up, can't really blame the new kids are blinded by the truth.
A problem may also be that when artists try to make albums, they just make 15 horrible songs, in a faint hope that one of them will be the next great hit on the radio. see: soljah boy
Ive seen this happen in music before. If enough people like the old school stuff more than the mainstream stuff and actually get out there, yes get out there and create their own music, rhymes, beats etc then music will change. people have the power
Notice how most songs on the radio now are idiotic and brain dead anthems or dances. Think about it, hip hop is a powerful tool that can influence how you think and feel. The Golden Era of Hip Hop encouraged listeners to question authority and the state of the world. So it was followed by an assertive effort to dumb it down. Bill Clinton signed the 1996 Telecommunications Act which allowed the big boys to buy up all the stations. Hence you have the same mind numbing programming nation wide.
haha your funnyy. but itss truee!! all about underground rap! imma step my foot up your ass if you come up with some bullshit haha.. get the fuck outta here.. underground musik!! louis logic sage francis. jedi mindss pigeon john. planet asia. cunninlynguist. immortal techniquee.. chiefa rockaa i live for the funk!!

GorillaKingdomFN 1 year ago
i like this video and it is true ive been downloading music since i was like 10 i have only bought 1 song since then and that was because i could not find a torrent for it and now im 19 i dont see the point in buying half of these songs that come out most of em are carbage and fuel racial stereotypes against blacks

All he sees is flashy moves.
woodyfly 1 year ago
Hip Hop also died because lazy people started getting famous for low quality work. We have people thinking they're badass "gangstas", but I guarantee if any of them were asked to enlist in the army, MAYBE one would do it. The rest would go hide under their 8-bit tracks and lazy rhymes.
LoveMetalDrummer28 1 year ago
Commercial Hip hop is dead not Underground Hip Hop it's very much alive. Do some research on Amazon and find REAL fucking rappers they out there. Not these fuckin Bubble gum Club banger fake ass rappers. Support real Hip Hop Fuck The Mainstream.

whips8 1 year ago
Listen to yourself all 2pac goes on about in his songs is him getting shot or something to do with gangs...who cares... There is no meaning in hiphop when rapping about guns, ghetto and money its just crap same boring shit....Dance music for kids ha ha all you see is chavs and kids on there phones listening to hiphop or rap going around in their hoodies trying to mc ... Trance and dance music is for adults no kids in clubs or venues with half naked ladys on poles and dancing in foam parties....
masonizere 1 year ago
@masonizere wow man are you serious???you are a typical hater of hip hop and 2pac...go listen to "life goes on" "dear mama" and "keep ya head up" by 2pac and come tell me all hip hop is garbage..just cuz all these new guys rap about the same bullshit don't mean everyone does..now trance and dance is all bullshit for fuckin E-heads..dont ever say 2pac's songs didnt have meaning..listen first.

Blame the fucking Record companies. Creativity and new ideas that make rap so sick aren't being tested because there is no guarantee it will sell records. If you can pick a rapper off the street, autotune his voice to a dance song and sell millions of records, why would you allow that artist to try and do something new and untried? It's all about money gentlemen!

i dont think download killed hip hop. sure, it does decline record sales, like 50's album got leaked a month ahead, he only sold 150k. but thats not just hip hop, thats music, so you talk about hip hop dying, ur wrong, cuz its music dying. i personally dont see a problem with it, we want the music as fast as we can, its a new generation where no one listens to cd's no more. 90% of rappers wouldve done the same thing to save their 9.99, shit em nas and game have confessed to stealing cd's.

Rap/HipHop is dying out with a generation that's seeing it for what it is: uneducated, high school drop-out niggers that can't make a difference in the world and instead must whine about how hard their lives were in a form of "entertainment" that shouldn't be called music.
Don't try to hold on to a dying trend.

Djs like me are settling for making videos, or mixes for You Tube or Myspace. We are still around, but most of us are just spinnin at home, not being heard. I've been away from the clubs for 7 years. You Tube has me back mixin again lol. : )
djcas69 2 years ago
I hear everything you say, and you are right on point! The music of now frustrates me, and people frustrate me more! There is still good Hip Hop out there, but the majority of the people don't care. Hip Hop is back underground where it started. There are quite a few Djs like me that mix beats. Always lookin for somethin fresh. But most mainstream people would leave my party to go to a party where the Dj is just playin Lil Wayne, Stanky Leg, or whatever is on the radio over and over again.
