  • id have to say les is one of if not my favorite bassist, but gosh people ur arguing over whos the 'best; n not one person mentions Pastorius? ........c'mon.....

  • so nobody likes funk cause not one person has mentioned Bootsy Collins. i think he kicks ass

  • He IS a tim burton film

  • les claypool is the best bass player ever, no one is higher name one

  • @SuperAaronturner theres plenty just they all have there own thing going on look at tal wilkenfield , victor wooten, and hell in billy sheehan don't get wrong les is of the best and great innovator

  • @SuperAaronturner a Mr. Geddy Lee is pretty bomb, buckethead on bass in gnarly, Vic the lunatic Wooten, Flea there all pretty damn good

  • @SuperAaronturner At the high level all of these bassists play at, you cannot say one is "better". I personally would take Victor Wooten over Claypool, but that does not diminish Claypool. You may like Claypools style and playing better. But at this high level of skill and playing and creativity that all these greats show, it is childish to claim one is the best. I am trying to listen to a lot of different styles and playing techniques on bass to increase my knowledge and also that of my son

  • @CoolKodiak I still think Wooten is better, John Entwistle is alot better also. Les is highly overrated. Once again dont get me wrong I like all of Les's projects, Bucket of Bernie Brains blew my mind the first time I heard them.

  • Les 4 President, we want chords to the White house, private concert in the Pentagone, make the penguins jam a bit.

  • @Badonkeyfuck14 Dont get me wrong I love Les but Victor Wooten puts him to shame

  • @tomwaitsfan84

I dont agree, Victor is pure technic wid a bit of creavity.

Les is a lot of creativity wid a lot of Technic.

In this way : Jaco, Marcus, but stand in the same rank musical style, him goes wherever...

  • @CoolKodiak :) should have read before commenting my mistake

  • crazy, best bass PLAYER IN THE WORLD

    jam on les claypool!

  • I think its a custom made carl thompson bass called the "rainbow bass" (among others of similar design that he owns) or something like that

  • This is the Piccolo Carl Thompson 4 string. The Rainbow Bass is a 6 string, fret less Carl Thompson. Both are exclusively Les Claypool's bass, some CT's are similar, no two alike though.

  • You are a fucking idiot. Why did you even get 2 thumbs up? Jesus Christ.

  • He use Carl Thompson basses

  • Yep- The best basses ever made!!! :-D

  • You are a fucking idiot.

  • i understand shecter was a bad guess... but dude u got sum problems...

  • carl thompson. he plays carl thompson basses, probably the rarest and best kind of bass mankind has ever stared upon

    and expensive =(

  • Yeah but what a bass, amazing for slap just amazing for Claypool :D

  • all agreed last three comments are utterly ignorant in terms of musicianship! hahaha dickheads!

  • Hell yeah :)

  • Damn, Wakarusa '06 must have been awesome, especially with Les' solo during one better!

  • i wanna eat me some worms?

  • stop contemplating and enjoy }

  • I am wrong its not a ct i think its a schecter or however its spelled

  • you're wrong, its a carl thompson

Look, it has that distinctive swirl on the horn

  • whoops, sorry

didn't realise you weren't talking about the bass in the video

  • lol i was wondering what the hell was up

  • why are people giving this thumbs down

    your right dude

  • you are right my mistake i am thinking of something else that i saw. the one he used in that movie i think is a schecter or however its spelled.

  • The one he used in Bill and Teds Bogus Journey was made by Tune. You can see it in the Roskilde '91 Jerry video here somewhere on youtube. It was the fretless 6 string he used before he received the Rainbow Bass.

  • thanks for the info...i was second guessing myself anyways on that

  • The original rainbow Bass was the one on Jerry was a race car driver. Actually, Les asked Carl to add a scroll as the balance was off. Search, "Life Beyond the 3rd Fret" if you don't believe me. From Carl himself.

  • its a CT bass he used with the bell sawed off. The balance was way messed up so les sawed off the bell and used it a little before shipping it back to CT

  • Yes, his music is ugly, we know it but you can see his awsome and unique solos and his representation of his madness. I think this is the essence of his shows. If I ever hear about claypool concert I will not have any doubt for go.

  • fair enough - yes, Claypool is a virtuoso, and has his own unique sound - can't deny it

  • Claypool is great live. Claypool by himself has got nothin on primus live though. Freckin amazing.

  • i have to say i love seeing primus live, but at the same time claypool on his own is amazing... either way i have to get my bass fix one way or anther les or primus i will be at any show he is putting on in my area...... primus sucks

  • wow i really like this video

  • "Got the herpes on my pecker,

    sometimes itches and burns."

    Haha, I love this man!

  • when it comes down to it, claypool is probably the best technical bassist in rock, flea, geddy lee, burton come close but ive never seen them do some of the shit this guy does. amazing!

  • He looks like Chuck Norris here.

  • that's because he's the chuck norris of bass

  • Obviously. ;P

  • hahahahahahahhahaha:D

  • Under his mustache is not a lip, but another bass....

  • His hair looks like it did back when he was in Blind Illusion.

This is worthy of the "O.o" emoticon.

  • Who said you have to choose.

There is no best in music, that whole concept is childish.

  • Totally agree.

  • damn right. yet i prefer les's stuff

  • victor wooten all the way. dont get me wrong i love claypool. but i think talent wise wooten comes before him. look up... Victor Wooten Classical Thump. amazing

  • i think Les, Maynard James Keenan, Neil Pert, and Ravi Shankar should hook up and make a band.......

  • i wonder how will it end up?

  • EPIC.

  • Les Claypool is an amazing bassist, however not an amazing singer. Personally, i think he should stick to bass but I guess his singing makes Les Claypool who he is.

  • you're dead on about this =]

  • couldn't agree more....

  • Claypools new album really combines funk with a clear sound of jazz in it. and of course, were all glad cus hes still wierd as fuck, which is why we love him.

  • So call me an asshole or whatever, but when did "Primus Sucks" start being a good thing to say? I'm honestly curious, haha.

  • "Primus Sucks" was/is Primus "tagline":P

It's like they come on stage, Les goes up to the mick and say's "Hello, we're primus..and yes..we do suck"

    :D

  • awesome hat

  • Just saw him last night he was amazing.

  • lululululust sting

  • lululululust sting

  • jaja oye tonada pegagosa

  • That bass is so beautiful I want to have sex with it

  • lol have fun with that

  • me too

  • me too

  • me too

  • me too

  • with guitar ?;p or man ?;p

  • @wesley1125 As well u should, hell bootsy collins does it y shouldnt u.

  • is that a carl thompson bass? sry if i misspelled that but that is what i have been seeing.

  • yes it is, its a custom made carl thompson bass :)

  • Yeah, you can find out about all les' CTs at ctbasses dot com. That one is his main bass, it's a 4 string fretted picolo (tuned 1 octave higher than a normal bass).

One of his newer CTs is gorgeous, it's a 4 string fretless, you can see him playing it in the "Les Claypool Intro Jam" video.

  • dude whatever Primus SUCKS!

  • I love that even with how good he is, he still gets down on a 4-string bass

    whats that supposed to mean?

if im reading it right your saying the better you are the more strings your bass has?

    if so go die.

  • Les usually plays his fretless 6-string Rainbow bass. Playing a four string is somewhat different for him.

  • actually he played a 6 string before he got the rainbow (the guitar in this video)

I think his best work is done on the 1 string bass

  • Whamola time!!!

  • Headcrabb:actually he played a 6 string before he got the rainbow (the guitar in this video)

...He's not playing a six-string in this video. He's had the 4 string bass in this video ever since he started to play bass. ...And the his fretted six string is before the Rainbow bass, but that's not the bass he's using in this video.

  • oh shi...

I guess you are right!, good on ya.

  • right on.

  • I love that even with how good he is, he still gets down on a 4-string bass.

  • Damn i love that hat.

  • well, im not convinced with them. im only one opinion i know, and no doubt hes an amazing bassist, like one of the all time best...but he sings thru his nose, and his music sometimes is a little too off beat for its own good. amaze the audience (which he does), but dont lose them (which he also does). primus with toned down musical arrangement/composition would be legendary. please dont flame me like you do the other guys, im stating one opinion only. thanks :D

  • ok i am not going to give you shit. but first you need to realize that is his voice makes him different from the rest. also it is there sound the makes the different from the rest. also you need to understand that it is mood music. but for hardcore fans like myself and the others he is the best. also it is black and white for people either you love them or you hate them and all i can say is this "PRIMUS SUCKS"

  • primus sucks

  • Theres no such thing as the best bass player its all a matter of personal taste.

  • you're right dude, they're pro... they can't play better than this

  • It's nice to see great bass players who know when not to play, when to play slowly, and when to play fewer notes. As Charlie Hayden says, "It lifts everybody up."

  • who gives a fuck let him solo p

  • Eh, Theyre totally different so i wouldnt judge em

and both of em happen to be two of my favorites

Ill just say that one is just as good as the other comparatively

  • You're just an ignorant fanboy, so your opinion is null.

  • Internet arguments: Serious Business.

  • Internet memes: Childish comments.

  • N'aww. You're so cute!

  • Damn straight.

  • there is no best bass player really, i mean les claypool is effin sick, and so is Justin, but u gotta remember theres other sik bassplayers of other genres and who can set the basses on fire with their godliness. Take famous artists like jaco pastorius, stanley clarke, marcus miller and victor wooten; theyr all pretty much virtuosos. To understand where im goin u gotta check out other genres besides like experimental rock and shizzle.

  • yeah yeah i got ya i know what you mean but this is sick stuff,,,, and they dont play 12 string

  • Who does play a 12 string in a band though? Frequently?

  • You mean Fieldy? Because no, he doesn't.

  • actually i think robert plant did....dunno if he still does though

  • ...

He doesn't play bass, he only has the double-necked Gibson SG.

  • Pretty sure you're talking about Jimmy Page? Right about the bass part, but Robert Plant would be the singer. He didn't play guitar. But yes, Jimmy Page played a double neck SG and the upper neck was a 12 string.

  • ole Justin....man I model alot of the things I do after him, he's sick as fuck. But, I wouldnt say he is better than Claypool...they're equally killer....just depends on the type of music you really like

  • No way part of his, and any band he belongs to's charm is his nasally voice it's great

  • What? Let someone else sing? But where would I find my amalgamation of country bumpkin drawl and kermet the frog on acid?

  • He is the king of bass all hail!

  • looks like a bowler hat. who cares? anybody know whos wearing that hat? Its Les Effing Claypool!

  • Anybody know what type of hat that is?

  • I'M GONNA EAT ME SOME WORMS!

  • Les is such an amazing Bassist. He is like the "Hendrix of Bass"...

  • Heh, Hendrix has played bass ya know :P

  • Yeah, but... You know what I mean! Hahaha

  • sorry jaco took that name long ago lol

  • haha this dude kicks ass hes even better live Go Rave!!!!

  • I am seeing this man live in TWO FUCKING DAYSSSS

I AM SOOO EXCITED holy shit this is amazing!

  • lol thats great you rock les

  • Goin for the chuck mangione look.

  • hell yea he needs a trumpet hahahahaha
