@JR15491 Ditto to all you said-thank you! I've been thinking, hoping, and praying along the same lines for almost 18 years since I first heard Gabrieli! His music welcoming us through the Pearly Gates...
@futrchampion101 I don't know if There's a NY, Chicago, Philly recording, but there's a Philly, Cleveland, Chicago Brass recording done in the early to mid '60's on Columbia. It's quite popular & I'm sure you'll have no trouble finding it. I have the LP. It still lives.
I really love this kind of music. I discovered "The Glory of Venice" CD in my parents' collection, now I'm searching for more brass music from the baroque/renaissance, which I see as the pinnacle for this genre.
@Nuker1337 Check out ECHO: GLORY OF GABRIELI by the Canadian Brass. I am playing on this recording, I am sure you will really love it! There is a link to it on my youtube profile page.
@cmc59 You are/were a member of the awesomeness that is the Canadian Brass??? Wow!! They are one of my favorite groups EVER!! To me, they are better than the Beatles, the Vienna Boys Choir and the Kings Singers combined. Kudos for helping to make that incredible sound possible.
@feinmotoriker We still have autographs of Gabrieli? I didn't know it. Can you give a link? I saw, instead, first pages of printed editions: sometimes you read "opus " Iohanni GABRIELII" (it's latin genitive of his surname), not Gabrielli.
@Sperontes I read several books on Gabrieli because of my final exam and I think it has been mentioned (and could be seen) in Egon Kenton's "Life and works of Giovanni Gabrieli", not 100% sure though.
@feinmotoriker Ok! If you can, tell me the page in the book where is the image (even if it will be difficult to find that book in libraries here in Italy). Thank you!
@Sperontes I read several books on Gabrieli for my final exams 9 months ago and I think it is mentioned (and can be seen as a facsimile/reprint) in Egon Kenton's "Life and works of Giovanni Gabrieli".
FABULOUS! I love Gabrieli, both brass and choral works. Heaven had better be this good!

Stunning Tone. Needs to be heard by anyone picking up a brass instrument for the firsy time to understand what to aspire to.

We're playing this exactly in Zenith. It sounds so cool, because we're up on the balcony split into three groups. It's so cool.

any one know of the NY, Chicago, and Philly brass versions of this done in the late 60's early 70's?
Love to find it

Great music, and great performance. Just a complaint: composer's name was GABRIELI (with just one L), not "Gabrielli".
Sperontes 3 years ago
Yeah, that's the common spelling, but interestingly, in Gabrieli's own hand signature he used two "L"!

I love the accoustics, with the musicians on the balcony. I imagine this is what it would have sounded like in St Marks.
