  • Too bad they didn't get Dr. Ekman for this part.

  • A totally absorbing program - I forgot everything else as I closely watched the patients, listened intensely to their voices... That in itself is a little commentary on the nature of consciousness

  • When was this released? i remember watching this doc when i was like 10 or 12...or maybe it was something different...

  • so the right is liberal and the left is conservative?

  • i respect this man to the fullest. he's a great contribution to society / patients and obviously his field...i wish i could shake his hand.

  • Thank you for the upload LennyBound!

  • Some politicians suffer from anosognosia. They think the public money is their own.

  • uploader you are my god

  • 5.21 The holly bible followed by books on lies,, how wonderfully apt

  • The holly bible followed by books on lies,, how wonderfully apt

  • I like this guy.

  • 4:09 - 4:21

    Lol

  • World expert on lying and deception.....at 5:19 I realized he certainly was, lol

  • I wonder if incidents of anosognosia will go down, then, if it becomes more well-known and integrated into people's normal worldviews...

  • 6:08 - 6:13 = WIN

  • I don't think the use of the word conciousness is correct here, they rather should have used perceptions and conceptions. Conciousness doesn't vary, nor is it aware of its self, it simply IS, every thing else is simply content wich is being experienced. Thus awarness and unawarness, acceptence and denial, all perceptions, conceptions part of the same experience wich is subject to conciousness.

  • @mangm1o2 you are talking about self-consciousness. Consciousness is being aware of "things"

"consciousness - The ability to talk about, articulate, describe, other otherwise overtly manipulate information"

  • @mangm1o2 nevermind, I didn't read your comment properly :p

  • "...who is a world authority on self-deception and lying."

At least that's what he told them.

Great bible humour by the way.

  • It was delightfull bright joke on that shelf

  • I was wondering what you were talking about, until I saw it. I laughed out loud. That is AWESOME.

  • Yeah, same, I had seen it, but hadn't registered it (*gasp!* hemispatial neglect! :o!); but then I looked again and saw it, and I was like, "LOL!" Epic self-deception win.

  • Ha... I love the selection of books on Triver's bookshelf.

  • Haha I know, right? That was brilliant. Very apt combination of books there.

  • Could it be that some left-brain types go into denial about a deity because their right, creative side is not strong enough to counter it?

  • Interesting. The idea of a deity or more seems to be embedded in most people in all cultures rhrough all times.....

  • That's residual self-image. The memory of b4 the body, materiality, & the Earth comes rushing back to Westerners (left hemisphere of the brain/Earth) @ the point in their personal lives when their dreams implode. This is mistaken 4 a "nervous breakdown" & medicated, but it's the soul's cry 2 wake from the nightmare the ego has created. This malady has spread to the East (the right hemisphere that values intuition over intellectualism) thru globalisation, the reconnection of the corpus callosum.

  • I'm left handed and since I remember I had a chalenge with all of beliefs systems. And the truth is - your belief system lies on your left side, so you right-handed is quite being cheating yourself by your brain. That is my ad hoc hypothesis

  • I had seen a bit of this on Public Television, and regretted that II was unable to see it all. Now, thanks to you, I was able to watch every fascinationg minute.

  • Thanks so much for uploading this great documentary!!! I have seen parts 1 to 4 but part 5 is not playing. It says that the video is no longer available. Can you please help LennyBound. Cheers

  • I think it's probably just a temporary glitch with the YouTube player.

If you don't want to wait for it to be fixed you can go to websites like KeepVid . com and download the video file directly onto your computer.

I just did that with this video and it worked fine.

    Hope that helps. :-)

  • Its working now!!! Thanks again for the vids.

  • What is the subconscious?

  • it's a store that's only open when everyone's asleep. it sells things that people can buy that they'd normally not buy if the store was open while everyone was awake.

  • this is fantastic

  • Why not use bush as an example of a liar?

  • 'cause he doesn't know he's lying. his job qualification was being able to read a teleprompter and that's all he ever did

  • Yeah, Bush could actually have been believing everything he said.

Same with Clinton. Clinton knew he was lying about the blow job, but did he actually believe the falsehoods he spewed about Kosovo?

Trivers actually talked about the possiblity of self-deception and lying in politicians in a conversation with Noam Chomsky, which you can find on youtube.

  • Great documentary! Straight on to episode 2 then.

Thanks a million for the opload!

  • Sure thing. :-)

  • By god that was a good documentary, this would be something tht i'm quite eager to share with my friends

  • Glad to hear you liked it. :-)

  • This has to be one of the most interesting documentaries I've ever seen. Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks for watching. :-)

  • Yep, pretty unbelievable stuff. Watching Ramachandran's talks on Beyond Belief conferences are time well used also.

  • Lol @ the bible on a shelf full of books about lying and delusion. How appropriate.

  • I really appreciate the level of respect and ethical sensitivity he has when dealing with these patients. His brilliance is exceeding only by his decency.

  • @fluxfreq Agreed; his patience must be astoundingly vast. My grandmother had anosognosia, and would become quite belligerent about it. It made her final years very draining on the family. This doctor just has so, so much patience and love in his heart for his patients. It's inspiring.

  • nice touch with the bible on the shelf

  • Great vid, thanks for posting. :))
