You are teaching, and you're doing wonderfully! I like that you put things into perspective for the newbies. The reason that I teach is to give back to Spirit for all that s/he has done for me. The Eclectic path isn't meant to be a complete hodge podge; it's meant to be a gathering from many different paths to show how we're all connected. I agree, you can't be all willy nilly with how you teach. You have to have a FIRM foundation, or else it's not Wicca at all.

I love your thoughts and your forthright manner. I agree that if you are not working within a specific religion you should not call yourself that. You said it so well that you should just call yourself spiritual. I would never want to offend Wiccans, Pagans, Druids...anyone by calling myself by any of those names. I try to make sure that people know I'm no teacher and that I am just a Buddhist witch. I'm a firm believer that we are on our paths, and I love the voices and videos I see. At the same time I feel what texts there are, teachings and lessons are there need to be learned. Without them we wouldn't have what we have today. I completely agree! I really think this needed to be said, and you said it very well. With witchcraft it is lovely that you can personalize things to make it your own, but I definitely agree that beginners must be taught the universal basics from traditions passed down from time. Only then can people personalize the craft into their own tradition.Very well said! Blessed be!

You seem to know "the right way" as you call it. I at least get that from this video. You wouldn't know "the right" from "back handed" if you weren't extremely knowledgeable... yes? You have a right to be irritated with folk teaching personal opinions to others, as if it's from a tradition. I'm curious, did you learn from a coven or an elder?

Wow you really opened my mind here about what i've self taught myself through books, when i really think about it it wasnt necessarily a foundation of a tradition i've been taught just the basics on witchcraft and then i delved into a bit of my own work. Again this really stresses how it's good to really have a teacher. Great video :)

I really agree with what youv'e said here. I would classify myself as a universal spiritualist and practioner, but NOT Wiccan.I hope that makes sense. I say universal spiritualist because of my Native American heritage(but I am of mixed heritage ) .

I am new to wicca, just trying to get as much information as I can on this subject, but it's honestly difficult to do with all the information out there to discern what is traditional and what has been customized to an individual. It makes learning about it alone more difficult.

Wonderful video! I totally agree with you, like anything in life structure is the more important thing. If you don't have a strong structure then whatever you make in your life can easily collapse. Wonderful advice :)

I LOVE THIS! I completely agree. I think we excuse a lot of bizarre behavior because, as Pagans, we want to be non-judgmental. It's SO important for people to have an understanding of the basics and the traditional meanings/correspondences before they decide to personalize their practice.

Excellent video. I agree that just because a path is eclectic, it doesn’t mean that there is no structure required. Learning Wicca or Witchcraft, no matter what the tradition, takes a tremendous amount of study, practice, and it is a life-long learning process. I also agree that understanding correspondences is imperative, but that the actual learning of symbolism is not as easy as it might seem. Again, excellent video. Well done.

What I want to know is what is with every Tom, Dick and bloody Harry writing books on here? Personally, I'm a Scott Cunningham fan, he's one author I can understand, relate too and put into practise. He's my very own mentor :) You can get a massively distorted, biased and arrogant view of Wicca on here watching some of the vids...I need to have a cull of the peeps I sub too...some have gone way beyond what I can understand or even agree with.

Some years ago I was almost gonna teach a group. Thank God I didn't get to! I now clearly see I wasn't ready for that, actually, even now I don't have what it would take. People have to come to see there's no need to be a teacher or priest/ess to be a balanced, spiritual, wise person. I feel much wiser now then some years back, even though my factual knowledge is less now.

The way I see it Wicca (even though I know nothing about it) is a better than "organized religion". Religion in my mind is a 6000 year old method of mind control. The backwater ideology of the fundamentalists (Baptists, Catholics, Shia, etc) are the worst of the worst. I've watch a youtube video where the pastor of this Baptist church forced a girl to apologize for being raped. She was 15 at the time, and she was raped by a man in her 50s. These instances is why religion can go to hell!

Great video!!!! I agree with your points although I myself am not Wiccan. I am baffled by the anger and animosity some youtubers have towards their audience. I've unfortunately had to delete my subscription to people who I initially enjoyed quite a bit. The rage disconcerting. Those videos don't seem to be made in the spirit of teaching and guidance, but rather animosity and a "f*ck you" attitude.

Sites need to explain the difference between eclectic and just plain debauchery. Those who aren't of a set-in-stone tradition need to explore within themselves what works for them. Example: Typical correspondence for money is the colour green. But personally I associate the colours gold & silver with money because I'm aware that gold and silver are what give paper currency their value, which is why I feel green wouldn't manifest my intent. Customised practice should have logic at the very least.

This is a great video. I agree that in order to personalize things our own way that we really need a base in truth and history to go from. We all may do things different but the teachings have been around for so long because they are our foundations. This is a huge subject that goes to the core of us all. It also may make a few stop to consider what it is they believe.....

I definitely am an eclectic, diy dabbler practicing a customized spirituality, BUT- I don't claim to be a teacher. I proudly call myself a witch & I practice magick. I am not a Wiccan, because I do not want to practice someone else's religion. If I did want to be a part of a tradition, I would absolutely practice it by the book to keep that particular tradition alive. However- What is "right" & "wrong" is subjective & I don't do dogma. No one, even the founders of Wicca, has a monopoly on Truth.

I believe many may be offended my the video as they may feel I am speaking about them directly, however I am not, nearly all of us are posting our own opinions, our own spiritual path, but there are a few who claim to teach however their teaching methods are biased and unstructured, and do not make sense LOL

In my opinion, the main function of ritual and spellwork tools is to help with visualization and to help focus your intent. The reason we are taught that certain colors go with certain things is because for most people "green" is associated with "money" and "pink" with "love" or happy feelings etc.

Of course intent is the most important, so I don't think correspondences should be set in stone. They will feel different for everybody :)

@Moonlah Also want to add that I really do believe that modern Witches have put the emphasis on candle colors....I highly doubt that the ancients who often had very little money and often lived out in the hills would say, "oh shit, I can't do this spell, I'm out of green candles"...know what I mean? :)

@Moonlah Yes it is, and also based on set on a particular dogma, therefor when teaching on any level I believe is it important to teach the dogmatic structure of the already established path, not personal forms of worship, I believe it is very confusing for those who are learning. How others individually choose to practice when they have evolved enough to understand a any tradition or dogmatic path is of their own free will. But when does a path no longer become a path ? Simply spirituality ?

@avalonmoon91 If someone were to approach me and ask me about what I believe and how I practice, I would tell them. I'm not going to suggest for a moment that I'm an expert on all Pagan paths. But I would share about my personal path, if asked. I don't push it on others. And yes, in the beginning, having some sort of structure is important for some people. For others, it's not. Faith isn't a one size fits all thing - thus having structure and set rules isn't practical for some ppl.

@Moonlah It is true, structure is not for everyone, but then when does particular faith practice become simplistic eclectic spirituality as appose to defining one self as Wiccan simply because of preconceived ideas. Dogmatic religious paths cannot simply be changed by individuals just because they feel it is warranted within their own opinion. If they would like to practice without Dogma they should look to Witchcraft or another unformalized path.

I see your point, and it is a valid one. However - just as some Christians form their own opinion by adhering to what makes sense to them from their faith, and some Christians are more open to new ideas than others, I believe Wiccan's are similar in that, it is no longer a faith that is practiced in the dark forest at night. More and more people are finding Wicca because they are drawn to Earth based faiths. I think Wicca is a stepping stone for some. It was for me.

Witchcraft is much more forgiving as eclectic practice is far more achievable and holds not specific structure except to the individual practitioner. However I feel many confuse Witchcraft and Wicca believe they are one in the same. I also agree about candle color etc, a spell can be performed without the desired color candle but I believe must be substituted with another item that holds specific value to the given desire and outcome. I am all for substitution however not complete distortion :)

@avalonmoon91 Wiccan's do perform Witchcraft, but not all those who perform Witchcraft are Wiccan. I agree - they do get confused often. I am not for complete distortion either, and I do realize there are "teachers" out there who do not know what they are teaching. I think it's important for someone who has chosen a Pagan path to research and decide what tradition they'd like to follow, and go from there. Part of the confusion comes from the various traditions being meshed together.
