They really should have kept "Gonna Be My Time" in the show. It's far better for the disco portion of the show than the disco version of "One Night Only."

@MotownConnoisseur30 Thats probably why they chose to stick with ONO...I do believe that the ballad version is suppose to sound better than the disco version...and with GBMT, that wasn't happening.

And also the lyrics didn't fit The Dreams

the my time disco version sounds so authentic to disco music of that time but I guess it would because that style of music was fresh

Is this Nell Carter? If i'm not mistaken she was suppose to be the original EFFIE, but she got GIMME A BREAK, so Jennifer Holiday took over, she had just finished the play Your Arms Too Short To Box With GOD.

U know, I havent seen the version that's touring around right now because it has not come to the Atlanta area, but from what I see it will be here in October of this year. Well anyhow I do hope that I am not dissappointed with this version of the show. I hear that they inversted more into the sets and that visually it is beautiful but lil things like One Night Only and the opening of Act II and other lil things may make it upsettiing as far as Im concerned. But I'll just have to see it.

See the original version of One Night Only?? Jennifer was not in it. This was the time that she had left and the had Nell Carter to replace her.

Interesting to hear in the 2009 version that Syesha sings stronger in the regular part of the song but her "sung dialog" is softer. Shouldn't that be the other way around for the character?

Also I wonder why in the workshop of the OBC that Effie was originally going to have died by the 2nd act, then how was One Night Only going to have been sung by her in Act 2?

Actually,the original was about Effie(Deena and "Lola" had little to do)...but once Nell left,gears shifted to Deena....J.Holliday didn't like that so she left....then they changed it from her dying to her being a nurse....then they changed it again.....

In the work shop, One Night Only is performed while Effie is in the group....The workshop is TOTALLY different from what we see today...

Syesha=SUCK....lol...but it's not her fault...it's Beyonce's...lol
