  • meat puppets were epic

  • 1:42

  • This is great!

  • Again.

  • Can't believe they're only a one hit wonder band

  • the part at the end is just magical.

  • @Anon6655321 mearvina?

  • Radio dj's should be beaten for always playing Nirvana versions instead of originals. They miss the whole point of what N was trying to do.

  • nirvana sing it better, but these guys play it better, nirvuppets would be a great band.

  • @seanybob92 Pupana?

  • @seanybob92 these same guys play it on the version kurt sings....at least the two guitarists do.

  • Did anybody know that The Meat Puppets are on twitter? (@TheMeatPuppets) . I have almost the same amount of follower as them, and I think that's sad

  • !!excelente!!!!!

  • Some people dont understand how good Grunge is. Im a Nirvana fanatic but this is where its out. Listen to this on fridays because it sums up the week :)

  • Not even that much different between Nirvana's and Meat Puppets versions, Kurt does it justice a'plenty at Unplugged, quality song all round.

  • i like how kurt sang it... peace!

  • puppets meet

  • @B12e3n

But the music is actually sounding good to me! ;)

  • Kurt had good taste in music and it's good more people heard about the Meat Puppets, especially the masterpiece Meat Puppets II album. Meat Puppets are the real deal.

  • so fucking hard to play on geetar

  • I've decided this is the greatest song ever recorded

  • me encanta the meat puppets esos 2 hermanos hicieron un jodida musica muy buena gracias

  • the outro is amazing

  • @55MethapysicalMan Ya I agree the outro is incredible.

  • the meat puppets are a great art rock band and nirvna to in a way after all Kurt was an artist

  • 207,710 views if Nirvana hadn't covered it.

  • @INDIANBLANKET More like 104,297 views if Nirvana hadn't covered it.

  • @ZeldaFoxEars More like 7,000 views if Nirvana hadn't covered it, remember this isn't on VEVO.. is it?

  • @Lamefunday Good point, Good point. Such an underrated band.

  • Like if Nirvana didnt bring you here......lol

  • @Blackdragon52k Nirvana also paid tribute to Bowie....Great music will always be great music brother... =)

  • Hate to say it, but Kurt sang all of the Meat Puppets songs better than the original studio versions. I do give them credit though because they did the instruments on the Unplugged recordings and wrote the damn songs.

  • @Peter7Paul That's all a matter of taste. I find that all the original versions of the songs are the better ones. Especially this one. The instrumental part at the end is gold.

  • thumbs up if you got here from nirvanas un plugged version

  • .. not Nirvana hahahhahahhaha

  • people vigorously chase things for no reason.

  • these guys are like the bob dylan of grunge. they write great songs but in my opinion other people play them better haha

  • @lreyay agreed

  • i like the guitar solo with the delay on this more than nirvanas version. both versions are good tho..

  • It seems people forget the point of music is to genuinely enjoy it, not how bad ass it is to like them since no ones heard of them and because they haven't "sold out." Yeah, way to declare your independence and individuality, you confused fucking dingbats.

  • @constipatedclown nicce. well said.

  • Why the fuck does it matter if people found out about the Puppets through Nirvana? You've never heard of someone finding out about a band through another band? You're kidding right? You are the most pretentious fucking knobs out there, the worst and most questionable type of fans. You're worst than those trendy hipster twats. Liking a band simply for the fact that no one knows about them, their lack of exposure. Go jump in front of a tank truck you hypocritical twats.

  • It just interests me how Kurt could change something so much and make it his... oh and cool song.... Meat Puppets are awesome

  • What did he change. It's a direct cover. Garbage.

  • @Christmastaflex Kurt sang it slightly different, subsequently changing it dramatically in some opinions.

  • @BennyDemetri He sang it different because it was incapable of singing it the same. There is musically 0 different between the 2 versions, but if you listen by ear the Meat Puppets version is far superior, and different.

  • I like Nirvana so much, but it doesn't mean that lots of Nirvana fans aren't stupid or fucking idiot. I wish those songs of Meat Puppets wouldn't be covered due to those stupid fag fans.

  • @paeganmushroom what gives you the right to judge Nirvana fans? not all of us are "stupid" or "fucking idiots."

  • @TheLadyAlexx I think I have explained my thoughts wrong. I wrote that I'm also a nirvana fan and I know meat puppets due to them. However, lots of fans even don't know this is a cover or they don't respect the original. That is why I called them stupid or idiot.

  • Funnily enough, I knew this version first, and I'm 16.

    Hah.

  • Nice ! .. Cried when Kurt left us .. but these guys are sick .. some bands can capture the sick before the sick captures them .. Early B side Ministry for example .. Wait, all Ministry is B side .. up until Keianh .. Good stuff though .. onward to hear Lake of Fire then

  • So good! I'm afraid Nirvana's cover brought me here, but I'll never leave !!!

  • Thumbs up if u know Meat Pompets because the lake of fire and plateau covered by nirvana in the mtv unplugged, lol

  • @PedroMoreiraEvo, I've never heard of Meat Pompets, now Meat Puppets is another story.

  • trip out @ 01:43

  • thumbs up if i love rock and roll, i fucking love rock and roll

  • O-M-G, I'm ordering this album. This just gave me cold chills. I can't believe I've never listened to the MP versions of these songs.

  • I like this better the nirvanas but i loved kurk cobains vocals. but i prefur nirvanas lake of fire over Meat puppets. But both are very talented bands

  • this sounds familiar.

    didn't somebody cover this?

  • @lawnmowerman7 Yeah, Nirvana covered it.

  • one of the most amazing codas i've ever heard in my life.

  • True grunge, because barely anyone knows who the Meat Puppets are... Haha.

  • @muskabulldog Obscurity has nothing to do with music genre. Maybe you believe that only your small group of friends are the only ones familiar and listening to the Meat Puppets, but there is a generation long before your time who probably doesn't use youtube but plays it on a vinyl or 12 inch.

  • @Christmastaflex took the words right out of my mouth! i dont understand people who think because an artist my be very obscure its somehow more "insert music genre here".I think people speak without really knowing what words mean.

  • @muskabulldog

That's why Nirvana had them perform with them. If you notice in most Nirvana interviews, they're always trying to recommend a whole bunch of great lesser known bands. I admire them for that. Even while they were getting so big, there were still in touch with their underground community.

  • @muskabulldog yes meat puppets are music lovers best kept secret!!!

  • nice song... but cobain´s version is better I think

  • These guys are fucking genius.

  • I think that there are similarities between the two songs, like the structure/pace, but that there are also very significant differences. I just can't see Lana Del Rey as a Kirkwood impersonator, no matter how hard I try. And I listened to this album many, many, many times on a cassette with the Gun Club's "Fire of Love" on the other side : a perfect pairing.

  • So who else thinks Lena Del Ray's song Video Games is a rip-off of this song?

Sort of sped up, but the same tune?

  • Hats off to the old timers who were listening to this in high school in the 1980s. SST rocked.

  • Stop talking about Nirvana already

  • THIS IS A REALLY GOOD NIRVANA SONG LOL

  • I like both this and Nirvana's cover, but to be honest this sounds really chaotic. Does anyone else feel the same or is my volume just too low?

  • Okay, I understand. This song is the original song, written and recorded by the meat puppets ... bit isn't that Kurt Cobain singing? It sounds nearly like in "MTV Unplugged", doesn't it?

  • @Beamaus1981 It's definitely not him.

  • @MusicByTheMoon Oh I'm sorry being that stupid! To me the voice in this song sounds similar to Kurt Cobains voice on MTV Unplugged, nevertheless :P

  • @Beamaus1981 That's okay, easy mistake to make.

  • @Beamaus1981 OmG, this is not Kurt. It isn't even similar voice.

  • wow first time i hear the original its awesome but god damn kurt sang that shit good on unplugged in new york....it wasnt just hype people smarten up!

  • @stide13 are you kidding? Kurt's voice was cracking all over the place.

  • @DomestikMC he's not Mariah Carey or Pavarotti but that concert was just amazing the cracking is part of the charm and uniqueness of his voice....i know so many people who love that concert....you dont need to sing perfectly to do good music...you can see kurts soul come out while he was doing that show.....rock music or whatever you call it is not opera and unlike pop music he doesnt have to hide his voice behind machines and still people appreciate his stuff.....i dont know what else to say..

  • @stide13 He wanted to start a punk band, so he did. We just call it grunge today. I don't know what he's doing singing, but it definitely isn't punk.

  • @stide13 Well if he didn't do a 7 bag shot before the unplugged show his voice probably would have been fine

  • @Christmastaflex i dont remember writting these comments this is weird

  • @Christmastaflex man seriously you dont understand the point of music or art...and you're usage of the word grunge...d'ont u kind of realize we had to give his style of music this new label called "grunge" or whatever because he was making original music and not just copying others like most of the bad music you probably enjoy listening too...do you just like bad music or something??? you must not use the artistic side of you're brain all that much

  • @stide13 I'm not quite sure you intended to reply to my comment. Because I honestly don't know how to reply to yours. That point I made was he was fucked up for the unplugged show.

What the fuck does that have to do with anything you said.

You're a fucking moron if you think Cobain was developing a new type of music. Cobain was quoted numerous times saying he wanted to make the ultimate pop song when he wrote Smells like Teen Spirit. He was quoted saying he was trying to write a pixies song.

  • ...he did try to make songs that could be defined as pop because he wanted to make good songs that people would like.....and about the rest of the comments, maybe i'm wrong to assume your musical taste is unevolved or whatever(sorry i get protective when someone talks shit about cobain or his drug usage) you're right he was fucked up....he was almost always fucked up helping to explain why he shot himself in the head....whatever he was trying to do it doesnt really matter...he wrote good songs

  • @stide13 You get protective? What are you Kurt Cobain's White Knight? Who fucking cares. His music was sub par at best. Also if you want to have a discussion stop fucking up the meat puppets comment section and pm me. I don't even know why you care so much about Kurt Cobain. Do you think he gave a fuck about you? The answers No, and Layne Staley was fucking wrecked during AIC MTV Unplugged but he still hit the nail on the head.

  • @Christmastaflex Kurt Cobains music was certainly not "sub par".....

  • com o Nirvana é bem mais foda, o Kurt colocava o a voz rouca nas musicas e ficava melhor, inclusive o instrumental é melhor.

  • @thaina030896 english only please

  • I like it

  • One of the beautiful parts of this song is the break at 1:43, the falling crescendo and the intensity of feeling behind the force on the strings create a powerful emotive sound. Great song writing.

  • Whoa Nirvana is way better.

  • Both Nirvana and Meat Puppets are great bands.

  • Nirvana once said.. If we make a cover from you, the song isn't yours.

  • The meat puppets played on the nirvana version so it's more like a meat puppets with kurt cobain version!!

  • Can't believe how much people prefer Nirvana's version! (Nirvana is my 2nd favorite band)

  • @Unicornioazul200 wats ur first?

  • @GamerBerserker40 Radiohead xP

  • nirvana's cover much much much muuuuch better! :<

  • @ChibiFruit wrong

  • @ChibiFruit NOT

  • That's some nice cover art too.

  • That's some nice cover art too.

  • Just missed a MP concert because of my age. >:-(

  • this is anothr great video......

  • just saw meat puppets last night in new orleans at one eyes jacks. what a great band. what a fuckin good show. 12 bux. long live meat puppets! 30 years of rockin and still counting

  • I originally like Nirvana's version best until I had heard this several times. It is now my favorite version of Plateau, and I've heard many different versionsl

  • AND FUCK THE REST, MY FRIENDS!!!!!, but be cool... is the life style . #carpediem, the motto. you know the rest.

  • Good god, I forgot how good this song is.

  • nirvana fan's stop bitching! nirvana's my favourite band, and yes i prefer there cover just because i prefer kurt's voice but meat puppet's are pretty fucking awesome to!! after all they wrote and produced this song....and kurt obviously liked it enough to cover it....

  • I like Nirvana's version better since I like the way Kurt sang this song, so emotional. But this original version is very good as well. I think I started to like this band a little bit more everyday.

  • im probally in the minority but i thought nirvanas was much more polished and theirs was live

  • who took down lake of fire?!? :'(

  • this song has song has so much more soul than the nirvana version

  • When the guitar kicks in at 1:43, it's hair raising!

  • @MrMtrocco it aroused me..

  • better than nirvanas version ... and i'm a huge fan of nirvana !

  • Love the description.

  • shut up you bellends and enjoy the fucking song

  • i'm not calling names, the people this question is directed to know themselves.is singing the only thing you pay attention to when you listen to a song?

  • FB PAGE GOOD HONEST MUSIC

  • Not that this version of the song isn't good, but you can't deny that Kurt Cobain can sing better than this guy.

  • @benjamin319 Oh dear mother of god... This song is made before Nirvana even existed..... Meat Puppet 2 is recorded in 1983 and released in 1984 and Nirvana originally formed in 1987 so they didnt stole anything.... Except maybe Curt Kirkwood (singer and guitar player in this band who also wrote Plateau) built a time machine and stole this song from Kurt....

  • @benjamin319 Dude i dont mean to insult you but you are kinda dumb... Did you even read what i wrote up there? Or you are just one of nirvana fans that know three songs and have nirvana t shirt and on top of that the only book they read is the Kurt Cobains biography? Please go to nirvana video with billion views and post RIP Kurt on them... And for the record i listen to nirvana personally but i don go around and troll about it....

  • Comment removed

  • @benjamin319 Dude i dont have anything against Nirvana or so called "nirvana army" (which i never heard for) i am just pointing out that Plateau is NOT stolen.... Meat Puppets originally made it and Kurt played that song.... So dude dont relay on that shitty biography because that is probably made by some rich music producer.... Just see FUCKING FACTS! This album is released in 1984 and nirvana BEGAN to play in 1987! Just use your brain... Have a nice day..

  • Comment removed

  • @benjamin319 no they didnt, nirvana did a cover of it. now Im a huge fan of Nirvana, but accually most people dont know that most of their songs are covered from the meat puppets. no lie

  • @TheIWSP Nirvana not only mentioned the Meat Puppets they brought Chris and Curt Kirkwood up on stage for Plateau and Lake of Fire. Watch the intro to Plateau

  • @howerc1 <<<<<<< don't forget Oh, Me.

  • @howerc1 And Oh me.

  • @howerc1 They did Oh, Me aswell

  • @howerc1 dont forget oh me thats a meat puppets song too probably my favourite

  • @benjamin319 You're an idiot dude. Kurt clearly states in the Nirvana Unplugged version of this song that it's from, "The Meat Puppets". Open your ears...

  • i like both versions

  • MOP!

  • i actually like this version better than the Nirvana cover i had first heard

  • @freekick1030 No way Nirvana did it better. The only real difference was Kurt Cobain. The Kirkwood brothers even played with Nirvana during Unplugged. This is such a raw, pure song that even when Nirvana played it Unplugged, it still came through as mainstream.

  • Rock on meat puuppets no respect to them but nirvana did it better. but hey there would be no nirvana without te meat puppets soo heyy rock on

  • tune

  • good stuff love meat puppets

  • I actually prefer this to the Nirvana version.

  • @michaellovegrove Yeah i dont think nirvana really captured the groove i think this song was meant to have

  • 1:42 awakened enlightment

  • Comment removed

  • 9 people are not finished with the mop..

  • Nothin on the top but a bucket and a mop and an illustrated book about birds, see alot up there but don't be scared who needs action when you got words, one of the most unique and awesome lines I have ever heard in music history.

  • Kurt really made the meat puppets look like a bunch of bogan buskers when he nailed this. Shame because i think he liked them.

  • @danjmham

Nirvana played these songs with Meat Puppets on Unplugged In New York

  • @addicted2slipknot666 yes dickwad and he was so amazingly brilliant meat puppets can't do these songs without them sounding ordinary in comparison.

  • Kurt does say Meat Puppets was one of his favorite bands, as they were good friends, even though Nirvana doesn't sound anything like them.

  • A real Nirvana fan would have listened to the unplugged album ALot, and before these songs were played Kurt named the bands these songs belong too.

  • Brothers meat. Amazing check out a song called popskull. :)

  • once nirvana cover ur sibg , no longer urs , u gotta admit that

  • @TerriyakiBurger

uh no... they only covered the song. they never ever even claimed that it was theirs; meat puppets got more fame because of their cover. shut up you're dumb

  • meat puppets. qotsa. soundgarden.

    you going?

  • @calixa Hell yeah!

  • @calixa when?????

  • If you look up this song online almost everyone thinks its a nirvana song which is pretty annoying.

  • the live version its a million times better with kurt cobain. this version just makes me want to deafen myself!

  • why is everything until Too High To Die now out of print?!?!?

  • And theres nuthin on the top but a bucket and a mop and a illustrated book bout birds!!! SO FUCKING EPIC
