They both sound good. God blessed Luther with a beautiful voice and allowed him to sing this song but God gave Jennifer the same gift. Some people need to stop hating on the girl, and just face facts she did a good job.
Jennifer was great. I think that the producers should have let the highlights do the talking and have left her out. I thought the same thing the one year I think they had Luther in the video. It's not about the singer...it's about the tourney and about the highlights. I think anyway.
I like Jennifer Hudson's version of One Shining Moment the best. All that criticism against it is unwarranted. The Luther Vandross's version is my second favorite version. It was not Jennifer Hudson's fault; it was the editors' fault. The only reason why the late singer's version returned this year is that it is the 25th anniversary. I hope the Jennifer Hudson version returns in 2012.

I don't think there have been many times in life I've been more pissed off than when they had this version of the song and then we had to see her SINGING it instead of seeing basketball clips. That was one of the 10 worst ideas in the history of the world. Whoever made that decision should never be allowed to have a job, ever, for the rest of his life. I'm not even kidding. That's the nicest punishment I could think of for such a travesty.

Love Jennifer Hudson and I think she has an absolutely incredible voice and she actually did a wonderful job with this song. However, Luther's version should always be played after the championship. It's just a great tradition. Hope to hear Luther two weeks from now.

She is a talented singer but she doesn't get that this song is not about her. It's about the moments for these players that are a culmination of years of work and dreams. She runs out of breath and cuts off some of the lines and tries to impress us with her vocal range at the end instead of building to an emotional climax like the tournament does.
If Hayward makes that shot, no one is talking about Jennifer Hudson singing this song. If that shot goes in, this version of One Shining Moment becomes the most epic one of all time.....
Wow the video is great. And Luther's is great as well. But I guess it goes to show how some people hate change. And for some of the comments being made about Hudson's singing this song is truly sad. This young lady have more talent than most of you who is making the comments. And I know from all that she have faced she have more strength within than most of you who are sitting here online putting her down. This version seems like your kid sister telling you how great you are. Luther Vandross' version is a father or coach telling you that all your hard work will pay off. This is exaggerated by the cut aways to Jennifer that make it seem it is more about the song than the basketball plays. She can sing - it's just the wrong interpretation. Missed the championship game this year. Just hearing this year's 'OSM' for the first time. All the critics out there strike me as rhythmless idiots of a certain persuasion. This was just as goose-bump producing as Luther's and Teddy's versions of this classic.

It wasn't horrible...Luther's was definitely better but Hudson's version didn't suck. It was good. She oversang it a bit, but she oversings pretty much everything. It was good.
For those of you complaining about Hudson being in the clips, that's a CBS thing. Go back to the 2002 or 2003 One Shining Moment (forget which one, it's one of those two). That's the first time Vandross sung the song, and he was shown singing some of the time. It's what CBS does to introduce a new singer.
cause her voice is so powerful it's hard for her to keep it in when she hits the high notes. i love her voice but i think luther's version is better..more subtle and it's supposed to be about the players and he did a great job not overdoing the song.

@scootigger It was her fault. Her and her management company. She was contractually obligated, her contract, to be shown a certain number of times. CBS took some heat for her being inserted and gave up the stipulations in her contract.
This was a terrible, over sung version of this song. Did they really need to show clips of her too when this song was supposed to be about the players??
She murdered this song, and the producer murdered what is supposed to be the absolute best part of this tournament. The song usually makes me almost tear up. This year, all it did was almost make me throw the remote through my TV. That producer should be castrated for ruining one of the most timeless traditions in sports.
Her voice is much too Diva for this song. it was like a chance for her to show off her vocals (which we all know are amazing), rather than respect the anthem of the NCAA tournament. The problems I had were the fact they just changed it on a whim, and decided to show more clips of her, than the tournament (which was one of the best I'd ever watched).

She is a talented singer but she doesn't get that this song is not about her. It's about the moments for these players that are a culmination of years of work and dreams. She runs out of breath and cuts off some of the lines and tries to impress us with her vocal range at the end instead of building to an emotional climax like the tournament does.

Wow the video is great. And Luther's is great as well. But I guess it goes to show how some people hate change. And for some of the comments being made about Hudson's singing this song is truly sad. This young lady have more talent than most of you who is making the comments. And I know from all that she have faced she have more strength within than most of you who are sitting here online putting her down. But then again what that old saying those who can do and those who can not don't.

It's completely absurd for there to be clips of Hudson in this video. She has nothing to do with the years upon years of work these kids put in to make it to this point. Here's to hoping they go back to the original in 2011. It's not about the singer, it's about celebrating the phenomenal accomplishments of the players. If they listened to the lyrics themselves they would understand that.

This version seems like your kid sister telling you how great you are. Luther Vandross' version is a father or coach telling you that all your hard work will pay off. This is exaggerated by the cut aways to Jennifer that make it seem it is more about the song than the basketball plays. She can sing - it's just the wrong interpretation. Not her fault - the producer had the wrong sensibility.

Missed the championship game this year. Just hearing this year's 'OSM' for the first time. All the critics out there strike me as rhythmless idiots of a certain persuasion. This was just as goose-bump producing as Luther's and Teddy's versions of this classic.

It wasn't horrible...Luther's was definitely better but Hudson's version didn't suck. It was good. She oversang it a bit, but she oversings pretty much everything. It was good.
For those of you complaining about Hudson being in the clips, that's a CBS thing. Go back to the 2002 or 2003 One Shining Moment (forget which one, it's one of those two). That's the first time Vandross sung the song, and he was shown singing some of the time. It's what CBS does to introduce a new singer.

@scootigger It was her fault. Her and her management company. She was contractually obligated, her contract, to be shown a certain number of times. CBS took some heat for her being inserted and gave up the stipulations in her contract.

She murdered this song, and the producer murdered what is supposed to be the absolute best part of this tournament. The song usually makes me almost tear up. This year, all it did was almost make me throw the remote through my TV. That producer should be castrated for ruining one of the most timeless traditions in sports.

Her voice is much too Diva for this song. it was like a chance for her to show off her vocals (which we all know are amazing), rather than respect the anthem of the NCAA tournament. The problems I had were the fact they just changed it on a whim, and decided to show more clips of her, than the tournament (which was one of the best I'd ever watched).

Man, this version SUCKED. They just HAD to screw it up didn't they after being good over these years? Of course Vandross sang it much better and they kept showing Hudson for some reason like she was promoting herself! Stupid. Also, even though this was one of the greatest tournaments ever this year, the clips weren't as good as normal AND it seemed a little shorter. CBS really failed. A stupid change.
