Hey Bill are the front hard drive bays easily removable or are they riveted in and in your opinion are they required for support of the case? I might buy one next week found one in excelent condition for $150 and looking for a good radiator spot =p.
@nikanj Another thing, this case is very light, about 15-20lb (5-10kg) when empty compared to the 45lb or 20kg of the 800D. Add all you parts and water cooling kit and that 800D will be too heavy to lift, unlike the Lian Li.

maybe in addition to what you talked about, you could talk about how easy it is to customize. go over the space you have around the front 140mm fans and determine whether there is enough room to fit a 2 x 140mm radiator in front instead of the HD cage. talk about whether you could fit a 360 or 480 radiator up top with or without the 5.25in drive bay devices installed. if you guys are reviewing a case and someone is watching it, the probably dont care about it stock. right?
It is obvious that many screws will be front and will not be easy out for the simple reason that the front door brings some key, if the front des dismount with just plain stupid would force the security key.
@madjimms yeah i guess i know what you mean, when i first got mine and kinda thought the same, but when you start working with it, you realize how high the build quality is.
No problem. It is an extremely nice case. I'm really attracted to the simple, no-frills look of it. The toolless features are definitely nice, though I still recommend having a Phillips screwdriver on hand (obviously). As for the filters, you don't need to take off the top three screws on the front panel, but 7 screws is still a hassle. Otherwise, I love it. Plus, there's plenty of space for an internal ICS, which I'm planning on in the future.
Don't need to remove the door, just the side screws for from the front panel, then the whole thing comes off. It's still a pain though, but really not that bad. Awesome case.
Haha please learn to RTFM. Why do You dismount the door to get to the front-filters? Just release the four screws at the sides and leave the door. Pwned guys ;-D
The PSU could have a small dust filter on the bottom vent like in a CM case I have seen. If not I would scrap the vents altogether and have a bottom square to allow airflow from the bottom in, also dust filtered. The front dust filters are ok but has anyone noticed the 5.25 bays above the 2 dust filters are overhanging leading to dust potentially getting sucked up through there. I agree the dust filters are too hard to get to. Its better than nothing but they could have made it easier to remove.
@Idler81643 I disagree soooooo strongly, I actually hate when companies name their cases "TEMPEST", "STORM", "SCOUT", "EXTREME TRANSFORMER" "DIABLO", etc. It's childish and unnecessary, when somebody asks me what case I have I say Lian Li, and that draws enough attention, I don't need a silly little marketed name for somebody to know I mean business. The fan filters are not that hard to change, c'mon guys. its just 10 screws. I'm glad i won't have to take off the side pannels in order to change the filters. Good vid. Was seriously considering this case, but we need to clean our dust filters frequently (like, several times a week) and there is NO way I'm going to put up w/ that 10 screw nonsense. I frequent a number of hardware forums ([H], Anandtech etc) and, surprisingly, nowhere else did I hear about this problem till this video O-o...
Thanks for saving me a headache and a half Bill 'n' Nate. Any idea if the Lian Li pc-a70f also suffers from this PITA dust filter issue?
Maybe not to you, but in our house we leave our windows open 8 months out of the year. Los Angeles is also much dustier/dirtier than when I lived in other parts of the country. Result? We have to dust 2-3 times a week. Add in the pets and yeah, dust filtering is a MAJOR requirement.

I don't get why people are whining about the non-removable mobo tray. Probably from inexperience, I guess. It's only useful on tiny mATX or ITX cases; on a mid tower let alone a full like this it's completely useless. You can't even remove it after you got your stuff installed anyway.
Only downside of this case is the fan dust filters. And if you don't like the front door there is a A70F which is the same but without the door (and $30 cheaper).
I agree that the removable mobo trays are sort of useless. Once you get the system all wired, you typically can't slide it out without ripping out all your wiring. But, at the same time, it is nice for the initial installation - we thought it was silly that they 'almost' had a removable tray, why not make it all the way.
English is not my native language. But can't you use the word ridiculous when a company brag about making toolless cases and then present a case with toolless solutions everywhere except where it actually really matters? Too bad, because this one is really nice looking and has a lot of space. But after seeing Bill remove the front, there's no way I'll buy it.
Lian Li, this is ridiculous! You label yourself as makers of toolless cases. How about making them toolless where it counts. I mean, how often does the average user change gfx-card, hdd's or psu? MAYBE once every 3-4 years?! So where's the need for making these solutions toolless?? Sure it's great to have the option, but how often do they clean their dustfilters? Get my point. Shouldn't the "toolless idea" have started there, with something you do often!?
Honestly...Is the door, the fucked up PCI card securing method, impossible to get to dust filters, hard drive cage at the top that is somehow actually usable, two power supply slots, camouflaged media card at the top with ten thousand cables, screw-on 1990's fan cover on the back of the case, motherboard speaker and a key lock necessary...?
You also can't remove the Motherboard tray.
Think before ya buy, guys. This case isn't technically bad, but the way it's designed is terrible.
DANG thats alot of work just too change the dust filter . The only thing i like from lian li's cases is that there made with better material other than that not a huge fan of there looks .
the dust filter indeed very annoying, and if wanted to remove the fan, same thing, you got to remove the front bezel first in order to remove them.. hence NO removable mobo tray? thats kind of disappointing I totally agree with bill and what's the point to pay so much and yet compromise this feature?
I feel the guys at Lian li thought you wouldn't have to clean the filters often due to the door, there is definetly less dust as a result of the door...
In the end, it all really depends on how dusty the environment is. If you have a semi-dusty room (pets, etc...), the door won't stop the build up. Those filters will get dirty for everyone at some point, 2 months, 6 months, whatever it is. Cleaning is a pain. But, despite that fact, it is still a great case. Well built, sleek looking, great design.
@sciroccoguy as they said. pet owners. My wife has 3 cats and I constantly need to clean cat hair out of the inside of my case and that is with included filters. That shit gets everywhere.
nice case, to bad the filter cleaning is such a pain to remove. alot of people will steer away from that due to that feature. but overall its a tight case if you like large cases.
Nice review as always. I suppose if you wanted that front door off enough, you could always remove those top screws, take off the door, and just reattach them right?
I really missed up by getting a PCI 8400gs to use as a PhysX card with my 2 GTX 260 in SLI on a old NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI Intel Edition from Dell in a XPS 710. I get a really bad flicker in games when the 8400gs is in enabled as the PhysX card.
You think cleaning the filters on that case is bad, try cleaning them on the antec 1200, it's the worst. Off the top of my head, I think there's about 24 screws you gotta unscrew.
Nice Review, I agree the filters are to much trouble, I personally would not even install them from the start, because once they were installed I would be to lazy to pull them out for cleaning. lol
Also whats with the almost removable mobo tray. It looks like it would be pretty easy to mod, but LIan Li should have done it from the start.
I've had gripes with my CM HAF 932 on the count if it not having dust filters and I have to clean it almost every month. But this thing with 10 screws, get real. And why the hell would they put screws on the top of the mobo tray, if its not removable, that blows my mind. Doesn't seem like a good airflow kind of case unless you use watercooling, no side fans, just front-in and back-out. Great review guys, you've reinforced my opinion on Lian Li being an overpriced dud maker.
Seems like if you didn't like the HD cables coming down on the front you could put them up top where the extra power supply slot is. That's what I would do.
Love seeing cases which can house loads of hard drives! Too bad the filters are hard to reach, else I'd consider buying one. But that's why modders exist - to take a good case with flaws and remove the flaws!
Too many fucking screws on the front panel for my liking, and for someone as myself, $240 on a case is way too much. But i have no doubt that it would be good for an IT tech computer setup in a corporate environment.
Bill you just bent one of the "pressure point release PCI thing"
I have the GTX 295 single PCB and the lian li PC-P50 which has the same tooless features.
The problem with that latch is there is a little overhang notch. Because the GTX 295 has a full cover cooler this notch hits the cooler cover and bends.
Thats why your friend had to push so hard to secure the first notch (only one that touches the cooler)
Go back and have a look and you fill find a broken notch. Sorry dude.
I'm sorry, but the guy's opinion on what you could do with the case is very obvious and pointless. He just summed up : You can put a lot of stuff in there.
I have five kids all under the age of 12, so I lock my case. :)

Good looking case. Like the innovating HDD grommet+screws and the DVD mounting. The quality is pure Lian-Li but so is the price. Good review Bill.

I wonder if it even came in instructions on how to get the filters out, my last F case didn't lol

LoL at the MP40 in the back at the start, on top of the rack/cabinet. XD

Lian li is EXPENSIVE. I would get something pretty much the same quality for half the price.
suckithardnfast 2 years ago
their lancool series are same quality but cheaper and smaller.

I agree my Lancool K7 is awesome and didn't cost all that much at all really.

Looking forward to the podcast #5

well yes nice case, i have to remove like 24 screws to wash off the dust filters from my antec 1200 though :D :D :D

Great review guys, you've reinforced my opinion on Lian Li being an overpriced dud maker.

this would make an awesome wc rig with a sr1 280 in front and 360 on top

Seems like if you didn't like the HD cables coming down on the front you could put them up top where the extra power supply slot is. That's what I would do.

Looks like too many cons vs. pros to that case. Back to R&D it goes!
IHunger4Battle1 2 years ago
Some great features on the case. But the ones that kill the deal are the filters and the almost-removable motherboard tray.

Love seeing cases which can house loads of hard drives! Too bad the filters are hard to reach, else I'd consider buying one. But that's why modders exist - to take a good case with flaws and remove the flaws!

Yay Bill~
I liked the push-pin bracket holders
Front bezel+filters= kind of a fail =/
No removeable tray, big dissapointment from lian li =/

Too many fucking screws on the front panel for my liking, and for someone as myself, $240 on a case is way too much. But i have no doubt that it would be good for an IT tech computer setup in a corporate environment.
clays121 2 years ago

Otherwise, SEND ME THAT CASE!
