niece try, but i have high-speed (69kmph) on self-maded recumbent! :P she (my recumbent is a woman) weights ~20kg, has underseat bar and seven speed drivetrain with max 44front/11rear cassette :P but my new recumbent will be fully from aluminium and weight 5 kg less than actually :P and i will try brake my record then:P
you should make or buy a aerodynamics components if you want ride faster:P when i'was going 69kmph, i had eyes full of tears :P
Recumbents are great for down hill, straights and partial inclines, but serious hills, they fail miserably. My $150US department store mountain bike is superior at going up hills compared to my $2100US Bachetta Corsa. Probably has to do with the ability to transfer your body weight to the pedals whereas that is not possible on a recumbent.
Yeah, me too. On my Performer High Racer I'm 10-15% slower on ascends compared to my road bike. I think frame rigidity, undeveloped "bent muscles" and also additional weight (~5kg) explain it all.
Also, Bacchetta's are still really cool bikes. Even though they are not so great on the hills, it awesome at everything else, especially distance. I could never travel more than 10km comfortably on my mountain bike. Shortly after getting the Corsa, I managed a daytrip distance of 160km with a friend who used his mountain bike. I most certainly was tired, but my more athletic friend on the mountain bike was practically dead. Had to take a lot unneccesary breaks because of him.
Thanks for the reply. The reason I asked about the tire pressure is because my giant cypress lx always felt sluggish and inefficient. One day I decided to go from 60psi to 85 and wow. That made all the difference. My pump has a gauge built in but I would recommend a separate automotive gauge for better accuracy.
Awesome, I hope you enjoy the bike. There were most certainly a lot of awkward moments when I was trying to figure out how to ride the Corsa. The Giro 20 will likely be a little easier to get the hang of, not to mention, likely more comfortable on those occasional crappy roads we all have to traverse sometimes. Goodluck;)
On an upright bicycle you can use your body weight to press down on the pedals, but you've got to lift your entire body again on the next cycle, so that doesn't make a difference.
@ultinium Why not adjust your seat or convert your steering? You should be able to press against the seat hard during climbs, and pull hard on the pedals (with SPD etc), if you have stable steering bars which you can brace against.
I have a Bachetta Corsa and managed 78km/hr on a n intense but brief hill in South Western Ontario Canada. I'd be afraid to go any faster just in case there was a tire blow out. I'm pretty sure that mean certain death
wow i have only just discovered what a recumbent bike is and this video is amazing. such a beautiful road and such speed. it looks like great fun. i dont really like the idea of going over the cliff feet first though...
My fastest speed: 93.3 Km/h or 58 MPH on a Rans V-Rex. I was on a 8% grade in Utah that was over 6 miles long. I ran out of gear-inches and was solely flying on gravity/
Good stuff. I got up to 68km/hr in pouring hail on my recumbant on a giant 14 minute long downhill in Germany. I had my jacket folded up like a jousting knight in medieval times so that the hail didn't blind me completely. Suuuuch a rush!
Wheeeeeeeeee! Had some fun downhill runs here in Scotland (nothing as long as this though!!). The longer/faster sweeping bends are the best eh?! Would probably feel faster than it looks on the vid, since your bum is so close to the ground...
Good video, but Evanencence?
Are you serious?

COOL, ordered a recumbent. A downhill run in the La Sals is called "The Blue Comet because it is super steep. Hope to video a run down that.

Speeds above 20kmh i'm faster, below 15kmh i'm about 10% slower than upright.

Wow I am thinking of buying a Bacchetta giro 20 and did not know that. What tire pressure are you running?
edudrepus 3 years ago
Tire Pressure on my Corsa is 120PSI, but I usually just guage it by pressing it with my fingers.

I've hit 62.5mph on a mountainbike with 1.25" Panaracer Pasela tires on it....but it was a 15% grade downhill. :)

Ok that was a downhill ride, what's about making a video of going uphill?

I'd imagine that going over the cliff feet first is better than going over the cliff head first :D
xlqex 3 years ago
good, better (urs) best: don't go over the cliff at all.... lol!

Ah now I see how you got that camera angle without the usual head movement. The cam is mounted on a long arm off the back of the seat.
Mark is that a home made mount? It seems pretty vibration free.
fardsmobile 4 years ago
No, the Panasonic FZ5 is directly mounted on the top of a Petzl Ecrin Roc helmet
mark88z 4 years ago
okay cheers, pretty good quality vid.
so what is the arm coming off the seat then?
fardsmobile 4 years ago
It's the tube of the Camelbak, this one is into the black bag under the seat.

73.6 kph = 45.7 mph, but it looks even faster!
