Banned Cartoon- Flinstones and Winston cigarettes commercial

Considering that tobacco companies sponsored a lot of television programs 50 years ago, how could this have been "banned?" I was eight years old when I saw these. My eyes were not covered when these commercials came on, nor did I go blind from seeing them. They did not make me want to smoke, even though my father did, and smoked Winstons at the time. Really people, have we produced a generation of coddled, fragile-minded individuals with no critical thinking skills or sense of history?

It's a good thing they got rid of cigarette ads pointed at kids, now they have their health and money to spend on other things, like pot......and meth......and crack......or just huffing paint fumes......yeah =_=, when are they gonna get rid of those ads, oh wait, they don't have any. Something along the lines of "lesser of the evils" comes to mind.

Why was it banned; because of the cigarettes, or because Fred and Barney are letting their wives do all the work? Actually tobacco ads were very common until the government banned all of them in 1971.

The reason the government banned the cigarettes was because of the new studies that have been found about how bad smoking is, not to mention kids were starting to smoke.....but back then cigarettes were even considered healthy....seriously, but as time passed on it showed little by little the dangers of smoke.....now today, everything about somking is bad it's all bad and they keep finding new bad things about it everyday, everyday, everyday....EEVVEERRYYDDAAAAYY­!!

Mostly to fit in, there are so many kids smoking nowadays it's not even funny.... I already have 2 years of smoking, I plan to stop but it aint easy....people who smoke use it as a stress reliever or just to get through the day, that's the real reason for smoking, the nicotine calms us down, but alot of young teens simply do it for rebellion and thinking that it's cool, they are fakes, it's a free country sure, but there is nothing "cool" about smoking

This is not "banned." It's simply that cigrarette advertisting was "banned" from television by 1971. It is interesting that following the absence of tobacco commercials, the networks were crying "broke" due to this loss of revenue. Today's generation has no idea of just how much of a presence tobacco, including cigarettes, cigars, and pipe tobacco had on television 50 years ago.
