  • HTTYD score was way better.

  • Intellectual filmmaking was robbed that year. Inception lost its well deserved nominations like film editing, and such a shame it did not win in this category. Music is the best!!

  • I've known Reznor was a genius since 1992. It amazes me that now the mainstream knows it. I'm also amazed that he gets recognized by Hollywood since he is no friend of the RIAA.

  • So glad The Social Network won this award -- such a powerful score, but subtle and haunting at the same time. It set the perfect tone, which is what the Academy Award winning score should do. Bravo.

  • Zimmer is great but it's standard fare, Reznor is innovative and doing something that doesn't sound like anyone else.

  • If these are the Nominees (the winner and inception were the only good two) harry potter 2 should totally win! I'm hoping

  • OF COarse the asshole only clapped for solcial network, its times like...every time i am alive that i wish facebook never existed, and people went back to just emailing or calling each other

  • I think Trent and Atticus deserved that win. I was skeptical at first, but when I watched the movie, I realized why they won. The music goes perfectly with the movie, it sets the mechanical tone that goes on throughout. Sure, I would have MUCH rather seen Powell or Zimmer win, but this'll do.

  • I enjoyed the inception soundtrack for what it is, a backdrop to a fantastic movie. However, as far as music goes, the only thing I felt was the vibration from the overused basechord. John Powell and Trent Reznor both achieved far greater emotion in their tracks then Zimmer. I enjoyed Powell and Reznor's soundtracks the same, but recognize that Reznor's tracks were more modern and original. The Academy chose their favourite, complaining about it makes you look childish.

  • i think... everybody's wanted this:

AND THE WINNER IS: HANS ZIMMER for INCEPTION!!

or... in my opinion... 127 hours... how to train your dragon.... the king's speech... in thats order. And i wonder: wheres is Alice in wonderland in this cathegory?

  • It's just like they did in 2005 Oscars where they used a musical piece for each nomination.

  • what is with everyone wanting inception to win every award, it had a good score don't get me wrong but the score in Social Network was way more original. In this score they used old keyboards and fucked up string instruments n shit to create the different types of sounds. the score was also more emotional and delicate rather than in inception where it was mostly used to make the film big and loud. besides Hans Zimmer already has an oscar for the lion king which had a good soundtrack too.

  • I feel like Inception was so robbed here , if you listen to the samples of the music here , Inception clearly blows all of then out of the water . It sucks you into those little clips of the film . nothing brought me into the film more than the story and the score . Fuck you , Academy ... Fuck You .

  • the last ones will be the first ones

  • man what were they thiking? social network? since the first time you watch INCEPTION the score is one of the elements you remember the most.

But is ok the academy not always do what they have to... give the awards to whom really deserve it.

  • In my opinion How to Train Your Dragon should have won. The soundtrack is so moving and epic.

  • Inception was robbed.

  • I liked Tron's soundtrack better.

  • HTTYD - I can listen to that without the visual and still be uplifted and given an adrenaline rush. The mark of a good score! Maybe next time Powell.

  • all I can say, is what the fuck! Hans Zimmer did an amazing job on inception, the music was unbelievable I dont even understand why this gay movie got it

  • One of the worst ever wins for Best Score...but then again, the quality of the music has never been a determining factor for the Academy...

This wasn't even a score - it was a hideous grinding noise...

  • Since when was the Oscars aired on TNT?

  • @chewyuhoh for the latin america yes

  • nope

  • Inception for teh win! Hans Zimmer was robbed here.

  • I gotta say... Social network didn't deserve it. The soundtrack was -ok- but didn't have the soul and passion compared to the other nominees! I guess the academy was looking to give it to the OST with an "edgy" feel.

HTTYD and Inception were, without a doubt, the best. Inception's OST works so close with the actual movie and HTTYD had so much soul and atmosphere.

    Huge disappointment.

  • dear lord, ever other soundtrack was better than the social network's.

i really want to know what the voters were thinking. I REALLY DO.

  • @KnitKnots Agreed. TSN was the worst out of the three. Still can't believe it won over Inception

  • Personally, i think Time is the best song from the inception soundtrack.

Social Network defiantly deserved to win.

  • This is bullshit Social Network best score give me a break. Inception score was so powerful, epic so much better. Fuck the Oscer's and everybody who is a part of this crap.

  • good to see a comment section not filled with Trent Reznor fanboys. What a joke of an award. Poor John Powell, poor Zimmer, et Monsieur Desplat!

  • Anyone know the name of the track that plays at 0.10?

  • The Social Network was repetitive, unoriginal, and computer generated. Fuck you Academy

  • @DetroitVixen4Life computer generated? lol. the instrument they mainly used, the dewanatron swarmatron, is actually an analog instrument. therefore your argument is invalid. go fuck yourself. :]

  • @123kiddUSA Analog instrument? That's used for thermometers/ weather usage.

Typical retarded Social Network fan -_-

  • I say that facebook was paying for there oscars

  • @the007sweety Facebook was against the movie.

  • How To Train Your Dragon Should have won. That score is epic and moves me to tears.

  • Hans Zimmer hasn't won an Oscar for any movie scores since The Lion King but I seriously thought he was going to win the Oscar. Sorry TSN, but this was a mistake.

  • what is the name of the scores used in the display on the screen?

  • @StevenAlternate

You mean like the names of the individual songs?

Well for Social Network it's "Hand Covers Bruise"

for Inception it's "Dream Is Collapsing"

don't know about the other ones.

  • @asoto2014 thanks

  • @asoto2014 oh, and im not sure if your correct on the inception one, because i just listened to it and it doesnt sound the same

  • @StevenAlternate

    /watch?v=imamcajBEJs

It's definitely "Dream is Collapsing", check around the 2 minute mark

Just to add my input: The Social Network deserved it, Hans Zimmer will most likely win it when he does the score for The Dark Knight Rises.

  • Comment removed

  • @StevenAlternate

    TSN - Hand Covers Bruise

    Inception - Dream is collapsing

    HTTYD - This is Berk

King's Speech - The Rehearsal (great track!)

127 Hours - Liberation (there are a few tracks named Liberation, not sure which one it is)

  • @colesyey thank you

  • My god please, I respect Trent hes an amazing musician but hell no! i mean Inception music gives you chills when you watch that movie and I mean literally for real it adds so much to every part of the movie, as well as John Powells music Im not saying trent's music is bad is awesome but the feel and intensity powell's and especially Zimmer's music brought was beyond comparable

  • @hehfilms Well maybe your definition of ambient sound is different from mine (mine is taken from nature, birds, wind, etc and not from a official definition about what it means in movies), and those are sounds that are just there because silence is disturbing. Like I said, if you think it adds to the movie I would like to use a different definition. The SN soundtrack added just a bit of atmosphere, but it was about as musically impressive as breathing spooky sounds in a microphone IMHO.

  • For me, TSN was too reminiscent of Mark Isham and James Newton Howard, but it did fit the film well. My personal fav was How To Train Your Dragon, which is a style I don't normally root for, but the theme and absolute joy of hearing it (despite the terrible mix) was a blast. Zimmer also did well this year with Inception.

  • @hehfilms well, I'd argue that the best soundtrack should add quality to the movie and that ambient music is just to keep your mind occupied, so you don't get bored. If it is thought invoking then it adds to the movie.

However, in my opinion the SN soundtrack added nothing to the movie, it seemed like the only reason there was any ambient music was because they couldn't just leave it in silence.

Some music in SN actually hurt my ears, friends of mine asked "SN had a soundtrack?"

  • @hehfilms Completely agree with you. I'm glad Reznor/Ross won for their ingenuity. I own the scores for both Inception and TSN and TSN is better in my opinion. I'll definitely give HTDYD a listen.

  • @hehfilms I do, just like I have a taste for childish comedy films, but I think neither have a place at the oscars.

  • Trent is amazing. Congrats on the Oscar!

  • Woo, Trent. And to everyone complaining, this did deserve to win. It was way more unique in a film then the other scores and it complimented the film perfectly.

  • HANS ZIMMER shouldve woooooon by faaaar

  • This was fucking retarded, How to train your dragon had BY FAR the best soundtrack of the year. And if how to train your dragon hadn't existed, then Inception should've won, The soundtrack to The social network wouldn't even be good enough for elevator music.

    The oscars are fucking ridiculous.

  • Listen to how people don't applaud at all when Hans and John's clips are heard... What the hell???

  • Boo. Hans Zimmer should've won it.

  • this is complete bullshit

Powell should've won the Oscar or atleast Zimmer

    disappointed in Academy.....

  • I´m glad "The Social Network" won! They deserved it! :)

  • @caricachupax117 Compared to a score like John Powell's? I think not. This was one of the biggest misfires at the Academy Awards this year.
