To me, the e609 blows the other two mics away. Listen to all three of the tracks and the first thing you notice is the amount of noise on both the sm57 and the i5 have while there is none with the e609. This isn't the only difference. The Bass sounds blodgy on the i5 and the sm57 (If that makes sense) and the e609 sounds amazing without the blodges.
Haha, I was watching this and realized that I've seen this studio somewhere before. I was asking about the Bugera a while back. Awesome video, still trying to get my head around reamping.
Dude, first off its cool to see your a sneapster and secondly this video is just AMAZING. im only doing amp sims right now but i want to eventually get into micing amps and this is just so helpful! its good to see also your tone in the end and mp3 samples (love the e609 sample) sound very very good too!!!
Ive seen your post in the forum and really like the sound. Well, my gear is a bit cheap as I dont have that much money available. Guitar Rig Session I/O with Shure Sm57, cheap speakers and a Bugera 6262. Actually im sure it can't sound that awesome, but how do you get rid of the reverb? Do you have any issues? Or are there some "tricks" like using noise gate or something similar?
Thank you very much - great video and explanaiton!
@DerJust661 Not sure what you mean by getting rid of the Reverb. I dont use any reverb in the signal chain. If you are getting reflections in the room then I would suggest you put some sound treatment in or just edit your recordings to cut out any unwanted noise.
@wretcheddog how do you mean? The microphones are connected to my interface that's connected to my computer via FireWire. I use a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 which has 8 microphone inputs.
ive done similar idea for doing a vocal session outof my MBox main outs into the line in's on my mackie VLZ chan 1 and 2 and set for music track on left and click on the right and i monitered from headphones, did the job without having the joy of furman headphone boxes
awesome video, I wish there were more videos like this one :D
I got one queston though, after recording those riffs at the end of the video, did you add anything else like EQ or effects? or is it just the sound coming out of the amp into the mic and out of the monitors?
@xlMetallicalx15 The 5150 i got a deal on Craigslist for $450. The Mesa Cab was also a Craigslist deal for $350. The Fosurite ran me $300 used on ebay. The Behringer ada8000 was $100 on Craigslist. The Audix was $100 at Guitar Center same with the 57. The 609 I got from Guitar Center for $109.
@Slash5155 the trick to the 57 is getting it in the PERFECT spot and making sure that its the correct distance from the cab. The v30 Speakers in the Mesa Cab dont hurt either :)
The best I can suggest is to put your mic in front of your cab, put on a pair of head phones, run some DI's into the amp and move the mic around on the speaker till you find a spot you really love.
This tone is really a combination of all the gear involved. Guitar / Amp / Speakers / Mic it all contributes to the tone
Im digging the i5 the most. How did u get ur sm57 to sound that good. Mind sounds so hollow and muffled. DO u think its my interface. im using a fast track pro. and ive checked my placement its pretty good.
@rij666 The only post processing on those is a high pass filter at 150hz. No other post processing at all. The guitars are panned 100% L& R and 70% L&R thats it.
Those are quad tracked on those songs. I did not play those DI's I just re-amped them through my setup. The DI's were tracked and played by a guy named Jeff Dunne hes in the pop punk band The Goodage.
Don't you use a mic/line preamp before going into the interface??
