Aww, I think they absolutely do, and they're still buddies today. This footage was filmed during the early days of rehearsal and such, so his relationship with Evan was probably still developing, or something.

its on there its somewhere in between the special features, they're rehearsing at a table and they are both looking deeply into their eyes. either they are extremely good at acting, or they might have a lil somethin somethin goin on;]
