  • I never liked John Williams he was a narky twat.

  • Alex Higgins is a hooligan

  • @ruarihennessy1 Please enlighten me about how I have made myself appear to be stupid? And as for me being "sad" I don't appreciate slanderous comments being written about my grandfather on YouTube.

  • higgins was a right bell end,he wasn't good for snooker in the slightest bit and the same can be said of o sullivan, yeah they sell tickets and merchandise by acting like twats, but still would anyay by excelling at the game and not acting like such mental cases.

  • and before any of you start with me, Im not a John Williams hater. I could also see Williams point of view. He felt within his right to stand where he did to ensure he was just dong his job properly. JW in his day was very 'by the book'. If most of us are willing to be blatantly honest and admit it, its a trait we dispise. So is anyone gonna call me an 'uneducated scumbug' then? Cos if you do, youre actin no better than the ones you criticize. Hypocrites.

  • The peope who cant stand Alex Higgins are the ones who dont expect people to be 'human'. More like a 'robot'. Yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir. Yeah alex was difficult.. Maybe he was trying to get attention on to himself but it was who HE WAS. A flawed human being with bags of character, including agression as well as adrenaline. He could also be a real gentleman. RIP Alex, thanks for 'keeping it real'

  • The majority of Higgins supporters well uneducated scumbags - this guy is perfect example.

  • couldn't stand Alex Higgins - as I can't stand John Higgins either -

  • yes i like John williansom it s a dood referee but i should like see

    as refereed pete willianson

    tell me where thanks

  • @FLYSENIOR1 Wtf are you on about?

  • @HACKERHITMARKER333 Oh I'm surprised to hear that. I'm having lunch with him on Sunday. Maybe if you'd like to give me your telephone number and I can ask him and get back to you?

  • @BennWilliams1 he already died,so idk what ur talking about

  • @HACKERHITMARKER333 Do you know something I don't know? Because I'm having second thoughts on turning up now. Very nice spelling by the way.

  • @BennWilliams1 i think you made yourself seem very stupid and very very sad

  • who was that tosser in the crowd? what a div

  • dougie fn donnelly for the win woot

  • You play You play

  • Higgins was a always nasty piece of work - zero class. Good riddance

  • Lmao wtf .....it dougie donnelly !

  • In my opinion, John Williams was one of the best referees of all time. He was rightfully standing his ground, because had he not, Alex would probably had John moving aound for the remainder of the match. If Alex had a valid point, how come he only requested it at the point where he was on the verge of losing the match, because if memory serves me right, he was close to defeat at this point Still, I suppose Alex always provided talking points for the fans.

  • @delboy723 How right you are. Good to see someone with sense.

  • lol

  • @johnnyfin1 I wish the last part of your comment was true.

p.s But the fact still remains - Williams summed it up perfectly - 'You play, and I'll referee'.

That's what all sportspeople (especially footballers) need to be told.

  • @johnnyfin1 This footage is a perfect demonstration of why John Williams and Len Ganley were the only 2 usually allowed to referee Higgins. They were the only 2 he didn't intimidate. He tried a similar trick with Ganley once, and was again, rightly, told to get on with it.

And frankly, considering players often have to play shots with their opponent sitting right in their eyeline, and never have any complaints with that, it seems extremely suspicious to suddenly say the ref is in the way.

  • @johnnyfin1 He was rather obviously just doing it as a distraction ploy. Full marks to John williams for keeping Higgins in his place.

And one other thing - Williams had been standing in that position for those shots, for the whole day. If Higgins really did think he was in the way, he should have asked him to move in the first frame, instead of playing 13 frames and then suddenly deciding he was in the way.

  • all this footage can be optained from snookerhardrive@gmail.co.uk please e-mail for a full list available on one usb hard drive enclosure

  • Snooker ain't like this no more, that's why I don't watch it anymore, boring players playing safe and dull.

  • Dont knock Alex!

He was a legend and an entertainer.

Alex was a one off, referees are two a penny.

    RIP Alex.

  • @ScottishNonBeliever Criticise refs as much as you like, but in this particular case, I believe Williams was 100 percent right.

And the fact remains - the players do have the right to ask the referee to move, but it's a request, not an instruction.

  • @ScottishNonBeliever Snooker, or any sport, will have no integrity if they don't ackowledge that the Referee's Decision Is Final.

If a player asks him to move, the referee will make a judgement. If he (or she) thinks the player has a case, then he will move, but not if he thinks the player is trying to use it as a distraction ploy.

Like it or not, the fact remains that what Williams said at the end is true - it is a player's job to play, not to referee.

  • @ScottishNonBeliever Refs do a lot more than wipe the balls sinshine. How about saying aloud the score, setting the balls up, repositioning the balls, watching players for fouls, watching the balls for fouls, keeping the crowed in line... and on top of all that they have to stand for hours at a time watching the game they'd probably rather be playing than refereeing.

The same as any other sport... the ref enforces the rules, not the players. Otherwise what is the point of having a ref?

  • Higgins: I want something to eat!!!

    Ref: Then come over here!

Higgins: But I am such a lazy guy you know...Come to me!

    Ref: I`m staying here!

Higgins: What are you thinking of what you are?

    Ref: I`m staying here!

    Higgins: Aaaaah, damn...I`m hungry...

  • what a faggot

  • way back when in the early 80's. alex did an exhibition. at our club . after the exhibition.alex came and sat at out table with his minder. and we got so drunk with alex that night, he drank us under the table. i will never forget that night . RIP ALEX.

  • thanx for the memories Alex. RIP

  • Give the man a drink.

  • @stevebenbob that aint even funny

  • I love ,The Hurricane, bad boy, but love to watch him play. RIP

  • @OneBillyTurner 'For asking baldy to move'?? I think you mean, for trying to distract everyone's (including his opponent) attention away from the game and onto himself, by complaining about a problem that wasn't even real.

If he wanted ref to move, he should have asked in the 1st frame, instead of playing 13 frames, and then suddenly deciding he's in the way.

And just because he's 'a great' does not mean he's above the rules. Players do not have the right to tell the referee where to stand.

  • @athull08 exactly. fuck higgins and his self centerd moods. i know im gonna get bombed with hate mail but i dont give a shit. and to be honest am i not aloud to speak badly of a legend if i dont like him? that aint in any rule book...

  • @SteveoMagician only idiots will bombard you with hate mail. you can say whatever you like, that's opinions for you, some agree and some don't, but alex brought so much to the game, complaining about his behavior is useless because that was the man he was and helped him play the way he did. alex helped shape the game the way it's played now. no alex = no jimmy = no ronnie = basically no exciting player who goes for their shots. so just saying he did a lot for the game.

  • @beatlebum1000 without question he did everything to make it as it is now... you could say the same about darts aswell. eric bristow not alot liked his cockyness but without him there wouldnt be a taylor and without taylor the sport wouldnt be as big as it is today. same as snooker with ronnie. if he wasnt in snooker i dont think it would get as much attention... so yep.. your right mate

  • @SteveoMagician :) cheers mate. so you never got too much hate mail then? well at least not yet. i think the bristow point is valid too.

  • @athull08 Only problem with this statement is that the referee wouldn't have always stood in the same place and been in the way for the entire 13 frames! It was only on this particular shot that Alex felt that he was distracted. Most players complain when something/someone is in their eyeline on a shot. If Alex felt genuinely aggrieved though he should have stopped play and consulted the match officials who could have assessed the situation and overruled the referee if necessary.

  • @britecho what I meant was, whenever players played shots from that part of the table, Williams had been standing in that same position all throughout the match. Neither player had said a word about it for 13 frames, so Higgins can just be quiet and get on with it.

  • It always seems to be the ones who judge him ahve never even met him let alone come near him even as a member of the audience in one of his Matches. Alex isnt perfect, just like the rest of us aint. We all have moods. I can understnad why soemtimes he did boil over... because there are alot of twats out there and alot who didnt want to understand him or take advantage. Alex is a legend of the game of snooker. So shut up and go away.

  • I will also correct myself, Alex was always polite to those who were polite to him. In one evening so many idiots would approach him obviously he would be rude to them. Who treated him as a human being was treated likewise. Also just to mention as a tribute a couple of years after this match a lovely gent called Dougie Perry who was Alex's manager dropped dead in his late 40's. Did not drink or smoke. Love you Doug, have fun with Alex and Ollie in paradise. Genius cannot be replaced.

  • Regarding this match, I was there and Alex was 100% right. The public payed good money to see Alex, certainly not Doherty, and if Alex wanted Williams to move he should have moved. Where Alex wanted him was totally out of his eyeline but where Williams wanted to stand was not. As Alex said the referees wanted him to lose and Williams was culprit number 1. After that match Alex was subjucted to unsuccessful drug tests which made no sense as he had called a doctor for his nervous state.

  • Why are there all the sad people here? Alex was my friend, a perfectionist on the table, like McEnroe on the court. Yes, Alex got pissed off with people every now and then. Do you think Doherty gets 10% of the attention Alex got when out in public? The educated people came to me first and asked could they ask Alex for his autograph and then respect was shown. You cannot butt into anyones conversation just because they are famous. He was always polite and without doubt the greatest of all timeRIP

  • Snooker has gone boring now since alex isn't here with us no more. He was the best at holding a cue, he was who we adored.

Rest in peace alex. I hope to meet you on the other side.

  • Angloran iv never ever heard sum1 b so cold when sum1 dies.Especially when that person was an absoloute legend who battled cancer and died so frail.ur 1 sad sick bssstrd n I hope u get yours! R.I.P. Legend

  • Great news. This creep Orange Alex Higgins was a waste of space and I am so placed to see him off the planet. He was crude to women, nasty to children, brutal to partners and an out and out thug.

I watched him ten years ago at an exhibition match. He told two girls sitting with children "If I pot this will you both do a double header on me" He came back from the toilets with his zip undone and told a lovely young girl to pull it up for him.

A great day for everyone. Rest in hell Higgins

  • @anlorgain What a complete muppet you are. Jog on and take your remarks elsewhere. Everyone as flaws and can be rude remember that, Alex as died and his genius is no longer with us. Respect the man or jog on no-one really cares weather you liked Him or not. We did so fuck off...

  • haha higgins was class gonna miss him

  • My mate met him in a snooker club in Leicester in the 80s. Alex played a frame with him on the condition he bought Alex a pint first - of advocaat and lemonade!!! Of course my mate got beat too but the big story was buying the great man his odd drink! Snooker was Alex...

  • rip man

  • RIP Alex....................Sadly He Died Today Aged 61.........He Was Controversial, and He Upset People, But He Was The Future Of Snooker As We Know it Now

  • asshole referee - why didnt he just move to the other side?

  • @BoyBangla because he was NOT in Higgins eyeline. Higgins was just trying to cause trouble and distract Doherty.

  • rip alex

  • Alex just spat his dummy out when he couldnt have his own way Alex higgins = wanker

  • @david110988

No he actually carried on playing...what are you..fucking blind?

The referee was the wanker..he didn't have to stand there..just wanted to make a name for himself.

    RIP Alex..best ever snooker player.

  • @theyorkshirewhites he didnt carry on playing, in fact hell probably never play again

  • @tiarnan76

I meant he carried on playing this game after the ref refused to move..and no he won't play again due to the fact he's dead !

  • a big fat meatloaf lol

  • Good on John Williams for not taking any shit from Higgins.

  • @xarcherx987

You'll be glad to hear he's dead now.

  • and wat do u deem eyeline azertyuiop32? just because a player focuses in on the cue ball it doesnt mean they cannot see the periphery u fool

  • Alex Higgins made snooker what it is today!!

Greatest player that ever picked up a cue!

  • @ricky5star1959 LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOL :D

  • Alex was the most exciting thing on the fucken planet, even ahead of Shergar, pipped him to the toast, now with the cancer, he has to drink and smoke through his arse, blows great smoke rings though, a dangerous mix, etchpeckshelley with the hiccups.

  • Whe that ref tells you, you stay told.

  • what a dick Higgins is...legend?...anything but a legend...what is he doing??...the ref is out of the way here, but he wants any excuse as always...he was renowned for this type of behavior...what a loser

  • @mairsy100 Agreed. They just did a tribute to him on the snooker on 2 now. Why? He's a cock and always was. And violent with it. You can see in this vid he's holding back the urgh to want to punch the ref.

    Legend of being a cock.

  • @joeypesci Exactly mate...he`s a fcking pain in the arse...he was violent and abusive to all in snooker....top player at the peak of his game but just so rude and lacking in class....when u read his book u realize the guy had, and still has, mental issues...he was a pain to all when he played...abusive and rude all the time....no fcking time for him at all

  • @mairsy100 just for d record, alex higgins was an alcoholic. wtf do u expect wen hes goes skullin vodka at the table. oh im sorry referee but ur in my eye line, real alex higgins like. ur stuck up dat refs hole. get a life u pioneer gypsy

  • Higgins was always obnoxious when thing were not going his way. Good on the referee for telling the xxxx where to get off.

I'd love to see how Mikaela Tabb would have dealt with him. Probably have eaten the little runt for breakfast.

  • im irish but ken doherty is the most boring fucking person on the planet and he looks weird

  • @sheffandcare ahahaha true! i dont mind an irish accent but his voice makes me put the tv on mute

  • I miss Alex. Except for ronnie snooker is just full of boring fuckers now. It needs more bad buys

  • Does anyone know what the spectator is saying?

  • i know that reff he works in ponitns know and is in charge of the pios and alot of amateur events he is awesome u cant meet a better bloke :D dont diss him if u dont know him fucking snooker wannabes

  • gay ref

  • I totally agree with the person who said that Higgins was the McEnroe of snooker,, just sheer genius, and though I have made many 50+ breaks, I marvel at how quickly higgins could just get down and play a shot.............even whilst visably drunk. One has to try it to know just how good he really is, but beyond all doubt, Davis was the top boy...

  • John Williams and Len Ganley were usually the only two referees ever chosen for Higgins' matches, and you can see why. For one thing, as Williams points out, referees almost always stand where he is standing for shots like that. Higgins tried something similar with Ganley once, telling him stand further back, when he was no closer than usual. Quite rightly, Higgins was told to get on with it, just like here.

  • Alex was a complete tosser. When he was good the crowd loved him but he was just an a******e most of the time. Just ask anyone from the circuit at the time.

  • bullshit... higgins made snooker great just like macenroe at tennis

    controversy is entertainment

  • As much as i hate to say it Higgins was good for snooker in the same way Mackenroe was good for tennis, but he was so overated when he beat Davis it was a big event because it hardly ever happened, as a person he is odious read his bio he always blames others for his defeats

  • higgins did more to ruin the reputation of snooker with his rude outbursts and drunken behaviour than all other players since then put together. what a disgrace, i'm glad he's not in the game anymore.

  • Sorry but Snooker was entertaining with charachters like the Hurricane about, nowadays Id rather watch paint dry or Cricket, thanks to the boring cardboard cutouts today

  • @jimlad87 Higgins did not represent snooker , he only ever represented himself so the only reputation at stake was his own.

Like him or loathe him the game was more interesting and entertaining with him in it.

  • @jimlad87 Had it not been for higgins this sport would never have been what it was in the 80s and 90s. yeah sure some of the establishment thought he was a pain in the ass, but these same people loved to watch him play, anyone will tell you that. this guy played the game 3 shots ahead of his opponent in a style and flair that will never be seen again. the entertainment and pure energy he brought to game was electrifying and like him or not he was unique and deserves the title of legend,RIP MISSU

  • i think its higgins whos the wanker he played my lil bro in a exibition match last year all kids about 14 an 15 an he stil went on like this blaming the 20 spectators for talking every time he missed hes a drunken twat..... great talent though respect

  • Wht fucking wanker ref he is

  • can anyone make out what that guy in the audience said before he was sent out

  • higgins should have whacked the cunt across the back with his snooker cue, that would have loosened williams up

  • I thnk this proves that Higgins was a first class twat!

  • The ref should have been polite and move. I'd love to see Higgins go to the other side of the table and jump the white at the ref. I bet he would have moved then.

  • As Alex slipped down the rankings and as he good days dried up the temper nd irritation boiled up more. Predictable but sad.

  • connorchapman1 you are right there but not forget higgins was a drugy and a boozer on the table as well!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • A referee should never position himself within a players line of vision and Higgins was entitled to ask, politely, for Williams to move. That said- there is some restriction in space when two tables are in use with a partition and the situation was simply unfortunate and blown up by the media. As the top referee he was embarrassed at being asked which led to his angry comment. I've also seen Reardon and Spencer, knowing Alex's nervous disposition, intentionally "wind him up" before a match.

  • Arrogant mothefuckha

  • hahah look how young dougie donnely is!!

  • Good advice at the end from John. I'm not sure Alex would have made a great referee in the 80s. But now ofcourse millions would tune if he refereed a match on tv! It would have to be a friendly non competitive match ofcourse haha!

  • John Williams - the most miserable referee on the circuit. I never saw him smile when a player made a maximum, miserable old git. Len Ganley and John Street were the best refs.

  • Comment removed

  • john mcenroe of snooker...... =.=

  • what the fuck does higgins want the ref to do? hide under the table?

  • @azertyuiop32 stand behind him like any other ref does, you idiot

  • @duseanmandik

higgins is making a mountain out of a molehill. the guy is clearly fucked up in the head if something this trivial bothers him you prick

  • @azertyuiop32 well you obv dont play snooker, when ppl stand in your way it does piss you off, and anyway that ref is a dick he can be replaced in seconds, wanker

  • @duseanmandik

you are right i dont play snooker. i prefer proper exercise and not some pub game. how did higgins manage to play his shot there?? the ref was practically preventing him from queing back you fuckin stupid cunt

  • @azertyuiop32 wow you are a thick cunt is you think snooker is exercise hahahaha, you need to get a life and get out more, im done with this coz your obv to much of a stupid dick to know what im talking about

  • @duseanmandik

i never said snooker was exercise. i merely stated that i prefer to spend my time exercising rather than playing some pub game.

if that is too complexed for you to get your head around then i pity you, you retarded wanker.

  • @duseanmandik But the point is, John Williams is nowhere near Higgins' eyeline! As he said, he'd been standing there for those shots all match, and all of a sudden Higgins thinks he's in his way?? It's obvious Higgins was just trying to make a name for himself by causing even more trouble.

  • @athull08 give it a break, im not going into this again

  • @duseanmandik Well, fine. But this clip is proof the John Williams and Len Ganley, and possibly John Street, were the only refs capable of controlling Higgins.

  • That´s why now is prohibited to drink and play, because of idiots like this one. If i was the referee there would be no game at all.

  • you fucking moron, coz of twats like u that we are stuck with boring morons like sean murphy,no characters left because of fucking spanners like you

  • Right on! Modern day players are pretty much dull as ditch water.

  • Alex higgins drinking, was to a large extent, what helped him play so well... this is particularly evident when he comes from behind against j.white to level at 15 all in the w.c. The referee shud never speak to a alex like dat because alex could easily assault him

  • Alex Higgins: Bungling Drunk.

  • Bungling Drunk that beat everyone he ever played aginst you fuckwit

  • Appart from Steve Davis my dear irishrover1967. Have a nice day.

  • he beat steve davis you plank lol
