@RipzMan24 - Paul McCartney wasn't. I think that the most shy bass players were: 3. Bill Wyman (The Rolling Stone), 2. John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), 1. John Deacon (Queen)
@RipzMan24 There's something about avoiding the spotlights, staying quietly in the back and being a band's backbone, with talent and dedication. The bass player is very often the underdog in a band, in the eye of profane music lovers. Thing is, it suits a lot of people, who might have chosen that instrument for that reason. That said, they're not all shy. I really don't see Flea as being shy. Or Les Claypool. Or Lemmy. List could go on...
Yeah....Yeah :D Anyway Jimmy is the greatest...and Jones will get his second 5 minutes of glory in interviews too :) JPJ also top 5 bassist ! LED ZEPPELIN !!!!!!!!!!!!
Them Crooked Vultures and John Paul Jones........for the win.

@Astares9 well yeah...i guess jimmy page is better at some things. Doing interviews i guess? drugs? booze? Megolomaniac stardom issues? I love Jimmy page though....he is truely a legend just like the rest of the band
I met John Paul Jones backstage at a Them Crooked Vultures show. He was standing pretty much alone and noticed me staring at him so I said 'hey' awkwardly, and he said 'hey' back. Silent fellow indeed.
haha ... I happened to watch an eight part rocumentary on the rise and fall of punk yesterday hera at YouTube, and the only thing that's still stands up is Ramones and Sex Pistols, the rest was more or less unbearable, then as now.
As for LedZep, it wasn't punk that brought them down, it was drugs and inner demons.
JP likes to talk ... but JPJ when he speaks says the coolest things in the world haha! They should do a long interview with him!
Finally, LedZep are one of the GIANTS of R'N'R!!!
The Sex Pistols used the first album by the Ramones as a blueprint, as did the Clash and they both admit to it. The Ramones used The Stooges as a catalyst, who were playing 'Punk' long before anyone called it such. The basic 'Anti Corporate' attitude that would launch a musical revolution, of sorts. It was so long ago and I still see kid's dressing the same and thinking they're shocking me with their dark and torn ensemble....funny.
I (purposely) shook the left hand of Page at Tacoma Dome in the 80s. He said, "No one's ever done that." I said, "Well, hopefully it'll rub off on me."
@TacomaPaul What a rush! I had the privelege of seeing them in '77....It is really amazing to see the music that was literally THEM. They didn't just play...they WERE....I didn't get to shake a hand or get a shoulder squeeze (how awesome for you)~Our generation really had the BEST of the musical times.
@steve1969pierce jimmy page single handedly made me pick up the guitar. now im in a band and its the most amazing thing ever. that man (and band) changed my life
There's some division in these comments about the Sex Pistols praise. I can understand people who bristle at Jimmy's comments - obviously, Zep was such an enormous ocean of talent and musical vision, and the Pistols were like a boat on the waves (catch the Swindle reference!) but the Pistols shook up a really staid boring scene with pure adrenalized aggression and energy, JUST LIKE ZEP DID! Jimmy understands this..plus Steve Jones is a really cool guitarist. Check my channel if you can...
The description of this video should be changed to "Jimmy Page talk to MOJO backstage at this year's show while John Paul Jones stands to the side and agrees with everything he says" I find it funny that back in the day, Jimmy hardly talked at all and when he did, he was so quiet lol.
@Moon27 I think Jimmy has mellowed a lot with age. He no longer worries about maintaining the mystique. Instead he comes across directly as the great guy he always was.
@NakedPlanet1 I have to agree with that. He always seemed so shy back in the days of Yardbirds and Zeppelin but I've noticed that he seems more outgoing and such as he got older and now. I'd love to meet him one day.
@Moon27 Believe it or not, Jimmy Page was kind of shy at first, If you watch the video of him in 1960 on a tv interview he is somewhat shy and doesn't really know what to say.
I love how Page rubs his nose a few times and then eagerly handshakes the interviewer. I feel like JPJ was a critical component of Zep's success- remember he was more than Bass- Keyboards, classic guitar, unusual instruments. HE could do it all. It is senseless to talk about any member of Zep in isolation. All were exceptional at what they did and blended well. To Jimmy's credit, if you listen to enough interviews, he acknowledges the wonderful talent of his fellow bandmembers. A true gem.
Musically....John Paul Jones is in a WHOLE nother' world. Page has always been in JPJ's musical shadow. Its sad that Page has been stuck doing his "one" thing and JPJ's has branched out doing everything. jamming with ?uestlove to bluegrass and now to the Vultures.

i respect led zeppelin for how they transformed a lot of the songs they covered, but i cant look at them the same knowing they didnt give the other bands credit for their songs.
Poor Jimmy is forced to diplomatically answer a question on the Sex Pistols...what is he going to say? Sure, they rocked the establishment in the UK, but really only have one legitimate album to their name and the Pistols were born and died in the blink of an eye. Though, I'm not saying "Never Mind the Bullocks..." wasn't a classic.
@Jimpan0096 yes, but his head nods and facial expressions set the mood of the whole convo, just as a bass player lays down the rhythms of a song...its in his blood!
I think from now until I croak, I'll always be totally pissed off at Robert Plant for ruining a Zeppelin tour...it is not like he retired from singing!
Maybe he is just embarrased that he can't SING GOOD anymore!
Okay... my point is that the Clash don't even come close to Zep in level of popularity nor influence. How many popular songs over the last three decades have borrowed or downright stolen from Led Zeppelin's songs? How many guitarists has Jimmy Page influenced, including many of the best of today?
As for Plant... Why? How about personal preference? How about being sick of performing Zep songs? How about a better relationship with BOJ than with Zep? Why ask?
The Clash? I don't give a damn about the Clash....you have me mixed up with someone else you're talking to here.
I was asking if Plant actually gave a reason to choose the Band of Joy over Zeppelin. Nobody out there cares about, nor can name a single song from the Band of Joy. Maybe the Band of Joy fans out there (all 3 of them) were elated that Plant decided to destroy a Zeppelin tour.
Why do I ask, you say?....Why not?, I'm curioius. I'm starved for Led Zeppelin.
@pajasa62 Plant essentially doesn't want to wind up following the Stones and The Who around the world on tours. I saw the Stones movie "Shine a Light" and was not impressed and The Who should have called it a day after Entwistle died. Jimmy and Robert did two good tours in the 90's just calling it Page and Plant. That's about as close to a reunion tour or tours as any fans of Zeppelin can ever hope for. I do want to see or at least hear a proper release from the O2 show.
If he actually said that, it is too bad. You mentioned the Stones...truthfully, I can believe Keith Richards is even still alive. My point is based on how many chances are we going to have to see these guys play again? In 10 years these guys will be in their 70's!!! It is that just for me, my music has been DEAD, except for Deep Purple, the Stones & Yes, etc. touring every now and then. I REALLY loved those Plant/Page tours and to hear them do those songs together was priceless.
Jack White said that Zeppelin were more anarchistic and rebellious than the Pistols, and I couldn’t agree with him more. If Led Zeppelin had a punk equivalent, I’d say it was The Clash; a band who experimented with genres as varied as reggae, blues & protest folk music, while still working in a punk framework, in the same way that Zeppelin mixed blues, folk & classical into something unique. But the Pistols? No fucking way! They were just a proto-Avril novelty boyband with an exuberant manager.
Yeah nice try at the modesty act Jimmy we all know the sex pistols are nowhere even near to the same league as led zeppelin, and you know it. you wouldn't catch any of you doing an advert for country life butter.
@TheGroop1 Yeah Page never really seemed to get over the punk craze an how at the time the punks made Zep seem like dinosaurs. However the Pistol and the Clash were full of shit, they would slag Zep in the press but kiss their ass in private...like back stage at knebworth. But where are they now really, a foot note in music history but the mighty Zep lives on...they were and are rock giants.
@zigzagbigbag The Clash were a great band and they explored different styles of music. This creates a wide fanbase. I'm not going to deny that Zeeplin were the bigger and more musically talented band, those guys could really fucking play. But the Clash are probably the more important punk band, which had influences in alternative and mainstream rock in both the USA and UK. Zepplin has always been bigger in the maintsream rock.
@TheDavelogan Yeah? Really? Let's see... In over 20 years of playing in a million bands, I've played more Zeppelin tunes more often than I can remember... and ONE Clash tune... ONCE! Yeah, real influential...
@TheSenecaHighlander But that's is just you. One person. I'm talking about a collection of different bands. I've no doubt the Zepplin have been the biggest influence on you. I'm just saying that in terms of the musical movements that have ocurred since the the 70s, The Clash can be considered as or more influential then Zepplin.
@TheGroop1 I disagree. Jones' response was like the who vid, "just, yeah, whatever Jimmy says..." :) But it is ironic that Page would give kudos to the Sex Pistols, since, back in '78, Sid Vicious and other punkers derided Page and Zeppelin (and other greats from the 60's and early 70's) as "old fart dinosaurs".
@TheGroop1 I disagree. @MrSamram3 I doubt Page cared about any negative comments from the Sex Pistols back then (or now) and I do recall those comments from the Pistols back in the 70s. But, at the end of the day, Page probably laguhed when he heard it, completely confident in his skill and Zep's place in musical history. Led Zeppelin is still on track to be played and enjoyed 2,000 years from now. People will still listen to the Pistols, too, but Zep, they are on the Beethoven level in terms of locked in history.
@JRCrowley what did the pisols say? i guess it must have been Rotten doing most of the talking..all though i cant bare to listen to any negativity about zep...but i admire john lydon a lot too..wudnt mind hearing anything that he says :P
..., not sure how you read,(esp?), JPJ's "look", but he confirmed Jimmy's comment immediately after with body language and verbally. He looks somewhat distracted, and that could easily be seen as thinking about where he is going rather that where he is. Careful assessment, in context, gets that Jimmy was saying that The Pistols forged dramatic change in the rock music universe and that LZ "did the same". Do you disagree?
I said that they were INFLUENCED by them, as were most other musicians at the time. As for Pet Sounds, Paul McCartney has freely acknowledged that it inspired the making of Sgt. Pepper. But what you fail to mention is that Brian Wilson was inspired by Rubber Soul, Revolver, Etc. But that's how things were in those days. Musicians would hear something new and this would inspire them to try and take things to the next level. It was usually a friendly competition but The Beatles were the benchmark.
What utter and complete tripe! First of all I didn't just mention the old guard. Why don't you learn how to read? I also mentioned The Animals and The Moody Blues, to name but two. As for the whole southern issue- Chubby Checker's records were burned mainly because he was black. The Beatles' records were burned because of what those rednecks THOUGHT JOHN LENNON SAID.They were not afraid to make controversial statements about religion, racial issues, drugs, and war.
(Cont) were given slaps on the wrist for drug use at best. Who were the UK's countercultural icons, and who were their cuddly mascots? Yes, the Beatles disappeared up their ass in the studio and gave us all sorts of overproduced, emotionally sterile studio goop that inspired the likes of 'make you slash your wrist' Radiohead. I'll take a band that isn't afraid to explore the Afro-roots of music and create pulse-racing samba, blues, celtic, etc over some giggling school-boy pop scientists anyday.
@peraake That whole "Led Zeppelin stole almost all of their songs" theory is total bullshit. While they did cover some songs and use certain parts from others, their final product was always vastly different (and in my mind superior) to the song that they were inspired by. I know for a fact that I would take Led Zeppelin songs over whatever the hell they might have covered anyday and everyday.
Don't be sad. In that time (60's and 70's, even before) they weren't the only ones who were "inspired" in other's music. Blues musicians took lyrics and songs from others, many songs were an universal patrimony. "Hoochie coochie man" is one good example. Think about all its versions. Few people knows who really belongs to. Nowadays we give more importance to author rights because of money role, but in the past it was different. Don't give to that so importance, really.
@peraake Look...It's like this - Mozart "borrowed" from those who preceded him, Beethoven "borrowed" from Mozart, etc. All composers/musicians do this. What really matters is that you take the music you borrowed and put the stamp of your own personality on it. You move the music on to the next level. That's one of the signs of true genius.
who the fuck cares about the sex pistols!!!!!!!!!!! and why waste a question like that on some of the biggest rock stars in the world!!!! this interviewers a dumb fuck!!!
there's a mistake in the video description. it says : Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones talk to MOJO... it actually is : Jimmy Page talks to MOJO and John Paul John stands beside and smiles.

Oops. Okay. That was brilliant, sorry. Somebody near me mentioned the Clash at the moment I was writing that. I meant SP.
TheSenecaHighlander 7 months ago
@pajasa62 Plant essentially doesn't want to wind up following the Stones and The Who around the world on tours. I saw the Stones movie "Shine a Light" and was not impressed and The Who should have called it a day after Entwistle died. Jimmy and Robert did two good tours in the 90's just calling it Page and Plant. That's about as close to a reunion tour or tours as any fans of Zeppelin can ever hope for. I do want to see or at least hear a proper release from the O2 show.
DasGoldenBoy 7 months ago
@DasGoldenBoy

Two legends
Ladies and Gentlemen: Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones.
Clasico2350 9 months ago

But where are they now really, a foot note in music history but the mighty Zep lives on...they were and are rock giants.
zigzagbigbag 7 months ago 2
@zigzagbigbag "Musical aptitude?" What was Jimmy smoking? :))))
MrAndersoncouncil 7 months ago
@zigzagbigbag It can be argued that in the long run the Clash are a more influential band
TheDavelogan 7 months ago
@TheDavelogan yeah by someone on glue.
zigzagbigbag 7 months ago
@zigzagbigbag The Clash were a great band and they explored different styles of music. This creates a wide fanbase. I'm not going to deny that Zeeplin were the bigger and more musically talented band, those guys could really fucking play. But the Clash are probably the more important punk band, which had influences in alternative and mainstream rock in both the USA and UK. Zepplin has always been bigger in the maintsream rock.
TheDavelogan 7 months ago
@TheDavelogan Yeah? Really? Let's see... In over 20 years of playing in a million bands, I've played more Zeppelin tunes more often than I can remember... and ONE Clash tune... ONCE! Yeah, real influential...
TheSenecaHighlander 7 months ago

MrSamram3 4 months ago
@MrSamram3 I doubt Page cared about any negative comments from the Sex Pistols back then (or now) and I do recall those comments from the Pistols back in the 70s. But, at the end of the day, Page probably laguhed when he heard it, completely confident in his skill and Zep's place in musical history. Led Zeppelin is still on track to be played and enjoyed 2,000 years from now. People will still listen to the Pistols, too, but Zep, they are on the Beethoven level in terms of locked in history.
JRCrowley 4 months ago

Please he deserves respect more that others because Robert Plant is the man.
Band of Joy is great.
Stop to live in the past. Today he is 62.
MsPiotto 10 months ago
I said that they were INFLUENCED by them, as were most other musicians at the time. As for Pet Sounds, Paul McCartney has freely acknowledged that it inspired the making of Sgt. Pepper. But what you fail to mention is that Brian Wilson was inspired by Rubber Soul, Revolver, Etc. But that's how things were in those days. Musicians would hear something new and this would inspire them to try and take things to the next level. It was usually a friendly competition but The Beatles were the benchmark.
MsAppassionata 10 months ago
What utter and complete tripe! First of all I didn't just mention the old guard. Why don't you learn how to read? I also mentioned The Animals and The Moody Blues, to name but two. As for the whole southern issue- Chubby Checker's records were burned mainly because he was black. The Beatles' records were burned because of what those rednecks THOUGHT JOHN LENNON SAID.They were not afraid to make controversial statements about religion, racial issues, drugs, and war.
MsAppassionata 10 months ago
(Cont) were given slaps on the wrist for drug use at best. Who were the UK's countercultural icons, and who were their cuddly mascots? Yes, the Beatles disappeared up their ass in the studio and gave us all sorts of overproduced, emotionally sterile studio goop that inspired the likes of 'make you slash your wrist' Radiohead. I'll take a band that isn't afraid to explore the Afro-roots of music and create pulse-racing samba, blues, celtic, etc over some giggling school-boy pop scientists anyday.

Led Zeppelin Plagiarism Part 1
can this be the truth?
...really hope that they not been stolen almost every tune
I´m so sad today
peraake 1 year ago
@peraake That whole "Led Zeppelin stole almost all of their songs" theory is total bullshit. While they did cover some songs and use certain parts from others, their final product was always vastly different (and in my mind superior) to the song that they were inspired by. I know for a fact that I would take Led Zeppelin songs over whatever the hell they might have covered anyday and everyday.
theledstone 1 year ago 2
@peraake
Misirlau 1 year ago
@peraake Look...It's like this - Mozart "borrowed" from those who preceded him, Beethoven "borrowed" from Mozart, etc. All composers/musicians do this. What really matters is that you take the music you borrowed and put the stamp of your own personality on it. You move the music on to the next level. That's one of the signs of true genius.
