i'm also in my 40's. as a child in a violent neighborhood, i learned to read by marvel comics..especially THE AVENGERS comics. for the record, because of comics i'm now an english teacher with two b.a.'s behind me. i'm hardly a doofus.also, comics shook their kiddie image a long time ago. they're not only a billion dollar business but they're cool storyboards for fun movies yet to be made.. and, yes, i was being sarcastic...i dug diana rigg, too.

I remember this series very well; I think that every guy watched this solely to catch Ms. Emma Peel, especially when she wore that killer black-leather outfit. This sweet Lady had it all: brains, beauty, and she could kick butt as well with her "karate". The opening theme song was also very catchy, also her accent.

The hairdo is simple yet sexy and elegant (similar to what Laura Petrie wore on "The Dick Van Dyke Show".

The Avengers was on for many years but changed style and partners every couple years. The Emma Peel episodes (only 2 years) had a lot of sci-fi elements like shrinking machines, invisible men, robots and weather machines but not so much the other years and really not at all the several years leading up to Emma Peel. Doesn't bother me though if you want to call it Sci-Fi, a rose by any other name...

The Avengers had the dumbest mysteries. Oddly, what it lacked in drama & suspense it tried to make for in comic surrealism. It was over-the-top without being campy. That's too bad because this show had more gay characters than Bewitched.
