That's hilarious! "AR-15's are more difficult to operate." You don't have to pull your mags out, they drop free. You don't have to charge after every mag change, as it has a bolt hold open. What's complicated about a rotating thumb safety? You don't have to take your finger off of the fire control like an AK. Spring weight on those safeties are less than 1 lb. With a battery assist lever, I can operate everything other than the charging handle with the right hand and insert mag with the left.
not a fan of the newly cut out section for the left side bolt. seems like crap will get in there. also now it looks like you cant mount optics on top of the reciever with the old side mount rails. maybe this lightning bolt thing comes already drilled and tapped?
I find the best mounts for optics to be the receiver style mounts, like the Kobra. Wouldn't this interfere in the way? I notice it's a non-issue for you because you have the handguard-mounted optic.
Overpriced piece though, might think about lowering manufacturing costs. I bought an AK cause they are economical weapons, I don't want to spend any $250 extra and defeat the purpose when my current charging handle works fine.
@smokybob63 Well yeah, he is probably the creator/inventor of the product or a friend of those that do make it. So he is going to delete anything that makes his product look bad.
Looks good until you have to hump it in the field with the charging handle digging into your side. Also, when he comes over top to rack the charging handle, he should use the blade of his hand to avoid rotator cuff injuries. He's making this wayy too difficult, but he's a good salesman.
I would guess he only loaded a few in each mag to demonstrate the time changing mags rather than make us endure full 30 rd mag dumps, though I was really waiting to see the gun rip it up.....
ps great idea not everybody is capable or wants to modify their own gun its easier to drop in a bolt and not take the legal risk of your mod going full out.
Like I said, YOUR the novice here, while the guy in the video is a trained professional...the reason why you don't know shit is the same reason they wouldn't let a veterinarian perform open heart surgery on a human....just because you THINK you know a little about something, doesn't make you a qualified profession. And how is a lighting bolt a "tacticool" part? the AK has a HORRIBLE bolt location and this fixes it...now shut your fat face and stop spewing bullshit.
Also, if you have to charge your ak, that means you either had a malfunction or your gun is dry. It doesnt matter what hand you use to charge the AK with, and here's y i say that......"you can't defend yourself if you cant fire your gun"...Genius, your gun is EMPTY! I do understand that seconds matter in a firefight, and that if you can reload without taking you firing grip off or taking it outta the shouder, all the better. But racking an ak means its dry...no bang-bang during a dry mag change
Uuummmmm........an ar's left side is more complicated? safety and a bolt release....whats so complicated? 4.5 years in the Corps and never once did i have to use my left hand to pull a mag out of the gun. Usually that comes with the use of oversized plastic mags. And u dont have to constantly rack an AR unless it has a malfunction. Hence the bolt release. All that being said, this is a good idea for one of the few AK shortcomings.
Im confused, charging the handle puts pressure on what? someone fill me in (not being sarcastic) but i dont see how this would abuse the rifle in anyway.
@UberR3D Coming over the top puts a small amount of pressure on ur rotator cuff. Thats the group of muscles, ligaments, and bones that make up ur shoulder. If you have a bit of shoulder problems like i do, it can hurt a little doing that. Thats all he meant.
The traditionalists/purists mentioned at 2:15 are only holding themselves back... I have a full appreciation of the AK platform, but the after-market parts selection has exploded over the last few years, and there are a lot of good parts that increase effectiveness... currently have command arms stock/grip, midwest inc. railset, tapco short grip, eotech xps2, vltor flashlight mount w/surefire g2 krebs enhanced safety lever on my ak74 clone. like it better than the last m4 I had issued to me.
We charged our Rk95tps with left hand going over the receiver in the finnish defence forces, easy and fast. Can be done with the empty magazine still in hand.
In the USMC I learned to use the AR-15. When I fired my friend's AK for the first time I was immediately put off by the fact that the safety and bolt were on the left hand side. I knew AKs were widely used and highly customizable, so I told my friend "I think you gave me a left-handed version." After he finished laughing at me he informed that that was actually the standard configuration. This Lightning Bolt product makes a hell of a lot of sense to me.
the beauty in the ar charging handle is that you only have to rack it once( as long as you dont have any malfunctions). that bolt release button is amazing, very ergo! the ak in my opinion will never be as user friendly as the ar, just for the simple fact that if you know how to use it, your prolly going to do pretty well with it. if someone unfamiliar with the ak platform picks it up, sure theyll prolly be able to shoot it, but will they spend time going " is that it" or " what do i do now".
@bCabulon Hhhmmmmm, this guy is a trained professional and your a fat man who dry fires his glock in his house / apartment while pointing it at walls and keeping his finger on the trigger the whole time, I trust your judgment about as far as I can throw you. Which is NONE.
nice vid bro your muzzle awareness is very professional. im left eye dominant though so i can charge the weapon with my non firing dominant right hand so i lucked up there.
nevermind my last, i think its the BDS tactical frog vest... at first thought it might be an eagle industries ak chest pouch. but looks more like a BDS vest.
What about running a single point sling. Looks like the charging handle would stick in you. If your wearing a vest it might help some. What's your experience anybody ? The standard scope mount won't work as well. Good excuse to buy a rail of some type.lol yl
If you are changing empty mags on the AR/M rifle you dont need to run the bolt manual, you hit the bolt release with the same hand that just seated the new mag.
Been looking at my AK and I'm considering getting another cover and bolt carrier to make the kit. It's just drop in parts that doesn't change the reciever at all.
I like the Ratchet Charging System from Dublin Ak Systems I dont almost slap myself in the face and my hane isn't so far from the forearm of my rifle.
12 pounds? Seriously, what could you possibly need that could make it weigh that much? And if it's too heavy for you now, I doubt you need to add more weight with this thing.
@clap5 and it weighs 12lbs with that? including the 75rnd drum fully loaded right XD? ahhh sorry I am an Ar guy looking to get into ak's so I don't even know if that's normal for a fully outfitted ak... fully outfitted ar weighs 8 or 9 lbs depending on how much crap is on it.
another solution to a problem that doesn't exist that only creates more problems. So what are you going to do when you shoot from the left shoulder? Right back to where you were. You do shoot from both don't you? Surely you don't go around right hand corners with the rifle on your right shoulder, exposing more of yourself? What about when you take a round to your right side, how does this help then?
oh well, then it's worse than I thought. "Hey, let's cut a big hole in the gun and get the Tacticool guys to buy it. They never get off the bench anyway so who cares about debris in the action!"
u gotta remember - the gun was originally made for the soviet army. and in the soviet union - left handed kids would be retaught and basically forced to become right handed since grade 1. i am not kidding - my dad was a lefty untill he went to school in USSR in the 70s - and he had to change to using his right hand. SO in the soviet army - there was no such problems with ANY of the weapons because everyone was right handed... and noone realy even thought of making an ambidexterous weapon
"Not the most well thought out design"? Are you stoned? Why do you think the AK isn't our military's primary rifle? Oh, by the way, AKs are made by children in most countries. And $350 for that bolt is too fucking much.
By the way, you do not need to use the charging handle after loading a fresh mag.
Remember the bolt catch? If you drop your mag on the ground (as you did) then you can drop your mag with the mag release, and draw a fresh mag with the other hand. Slap in the new mag, and tap the bolt catch, no need for the charging handle (for simple loading) bro.
I think he's talking about how the guy in the video says that on an M-16 type rifle you need to rack it with your left hand, which isnt the case if you have the bolt release.

i know the REAL person who invented this. he didn't get a patent and it was copied by this lying fuck. dont buy this product and anyone with a spot welder and a hack saw can make there own
Lots of people modify their guns without getting their stuff patented, look at any sizeable gun forum and you will see TONS of cool innovations. I don't mean to rain on your parade, but the idea of putting the AK's charging handle on the left side has been around forever.
Please, this system doesn't require any "inviting". It's just common sense and anyone can get it done with a welder and a dremel without any planning.
Yeah thats the way we used them. Right handed shooter load the mag with the left hand tilt the weapon to the left and cock/charge the weapon with the left hand, it aint rocket science. the safety/ fire selector is the biggest let down on this weapon, as well as the sights..
Hey esh325-In combat, the reason you would want to reload from your support hand is so you never release your master grip and keeping your muzzle facing your threat may actually fool him (even temporarily)into keeping his head down or stay in his position. These are advanced tactics civilians dont really know about and will never use. If you happen to find yourself with no cover, keeping your muzzle up (even if empty) is a form of cover. So it actually isnt a moot point.
I understand the point your making about moving your firing grip out of position...but you cant defend ur self either if the bullet isnt chambered...id find it more responsible and reliable for the 'defending' if the gun is shouldered and griped allowing for fast response after the cocking - but theres a reason for everything :)
That is an Original S.O.E Mookie War Rig. It is the best chest rig bar none.
As for the brass ejection. Please watch all 3 AK LB videos and it will answer all those questions. To answer dans question yes it is a big problem to let go of the firing hand, and it is an even bigger problem under stress.
A few of these just made the trip to a contract company operating out of Camp Liberty!
The idea of this product is to simplify weapon manipulation.
+1 to John Willis' stuff. I have to make an order for that rig, God it's nice. I'm running off of a Warlord series from HSGI and I'm sure it just doesn't compare.
lol...i agree its never a good thing to take your firing hand out of possition but you say you cant defend yourself while charging the bolt? but you cant defend yourself with an uncocked weapon either lol...i dont see a problem with charging the weapon with your firing hand as long as you have it to your should and control over it..but i understand this is ment to sell something

your right, i know very little about welding, but im not the one who really made it, im just pointing out that this was a stolen idea

Until you provide irrefutable proof, shut the fuck up.

I remember seeing a Russian video showing the shooter turning the rifle 90 degrees and charging the weapon with the right hand.
That is done while still keeping your right hand on the pistol grip & your finger on the trigger.
If this is possible then your fix is not needed and will only add weight and create potential problems to a simple design. IMHO

So it actually isnt a moot point.

k left side charge...get the LEFT side safty to go along with it... everyone in the AK sport world would give a nut for one

you can't defend yourself at all when your reloading so moot point

I've been thinking the same thing. No round in the chamber so what's the big deal about taking your hand off the pistol grip to charge the rifle?
politicalsheepdog 2 years ago
so with the charging handle on the left does the weapon eject the cases to the left as well?
disturbedone5009 3 years ago
no. the only thing that has changed is now the charging handle is on the left.

I understand the point your making about moving your firing grip out of position...but you cant defend ur self either if the bullet isnt chambered...id find it more responsible and reliable for the 'defending' if the gun is shouldered and griped allowing for fast response after the cocking - but theres a reason for everything :)

Will the Lightning Bolt fit on a Saiga .223? Please say yes!

I'm running off of a Warlord series from HSGI and I'm sure it just doesn't compare.
zRxz 3 years ago
is that a BDS frog chest rig?

With a Lightning bolt, is the brass still ejected from the right hand side of the weapon, or is it changed after the Lightning bolt instalation?
Cool design! I'm interested!

Standard or class III. It will work with either
actionpursuit1 3 years ago
So these are class 3 only?

lol...i agree its never a good thing to take your firing hand out of possition but you say you cant defend yourself while charging the bolt? but you cant defend yourself with an uncocked weapon either lol...i dont see a problem with charging the weapon with your firing hand as long as you have it to your should and control over it..but i understand this is ment to sell something
