Every time I refer something to WW2, they look at me in puzzlement. I have yet to meet another teen that has any knowledge of WW2. Most popular audiences of these history videos are 35-64 yo, so are today's younger generation much less aware of history or perhaps they have better things to do such as facebook and I'm just dwelling in the past...

Worst mistake Hitler made was invading the soviet union, Hitler expected to defeat the soviet union in a matter of weeks and couldn't meet any of their goals in 6 months of fighting. They took a lot of territory but the industrial might of the soviet union kicked in and overpowered germany and their allies.

The Russians took the biggest hit in WW2 and hit the Hardest in Berlin for revenge. The Americans stood back at the end and let them kill and rape all the Germans they pleased for fear the Soviets would turn and destroy the American troops for getting in the way of revenge. I agree with Mr. Wolfgang, if a US Soldier said to a suspected insurgent, in Arabic "Raise your hands!" and they didn't raise their hands, there isn't much left to do but shoot them. Chances are they would shoot you with a pistol or blow themselves up with a grenade. People need to not look at the Wehrmacht as Nazi's. If they were not Waffen SS, then they were just simple soldiers, earning a paycheck. If you were in the SS, though, no sympathy for you.

@sarsfield7 True. They could have used them as labor for the war economy, as Speer did later on during the war... but ideology got in the way. If the Germans had promised even a measure of autonomy or independence to Ukraine, Belorussia etc., they would have gotten hundreds of thousands of volunteers to fight the Soviets, instead they had to tie down soldiers in anti-partisan warfare. But even with the harsh occupation policies the Waffen SS got 100 000 Ukrainian volunteers.

I'm 18 and I love learning about WW1 and WW2 and anything of the past, but it seems like kids my age would not like to discuss anything to do with WW2. Every time I refer something to WW2, they look at me in puzzlement. I have yet to meet another teen that has any knowledge of WW2. Most popular audiences of these history videos are 35-64 yo, so are today's younger generation much less aware of history or perhaps they have better things to do such as facebook and I'm just dwelling in the past...

But if Operation Barbarossa has started on time and not 6 weeks late because of a British incursion into the Balkans, the Soviet Union would have fallen to the same Blitzkrieg as Poland, France and the Low Countries.

The Russians took the biggest hit in WW2 and hit the Hardest in Berlin for revenge. The Americans stood back at the end and let them kill and rape all the Germans they pleased for fear the Soviets would turn and destroy the American troops for getting in the way of revenge. The Germans that were sent to Ostfront were considered expendable and not expected to return or succeed in the invasion just merely hold the Soviet mass army back for a free for all in Europe.

I agree with Mr. Wolfgang, if a US Soldier said to a suspected insurgent, in Arabic "Raise your hands!" and they didn't raise their hands, there isn't much left to do but shoot them. Chances are they would shoot you with a pistol or blow themselves up with a grenade. People need to not look at the Wehrmacht as Nazi's. If they were not Waffen SS, then they were just simple soldiers, earning a paycheck. If you were in the SS, though, no sympathy for you.

If the Germans had promised even a measure of autonomy or independence to Ukraine, Belorussia etc., they would have gotten hundreds of thousands of volunteers to fight the Soviets, instead they had to tie down soldiers in anti-partisan warfare. But even with the harsh occupation policies the Waffen SS got 100 000 Ukrainian volunteers.

Its totally amazing how the Ukrainians thought of the Germans as liberators by cheering & adorning the Wermarcht with flowers as they marched through and took control of their cities in the early stages of operation Barbarossa. There was a good possibility that they both could have joined forces and fought on together and toppled Communism and Stalin, Instead Hitlers Ego and greed got in the way and the best of him.

USSR was MAIN theatre of WW2. But without USA/British Commonwealth in World War 2, Russia would be fighting the Axis of Germany/Japan/Italy and their allies on Land, Sea and Air - ON THEIR OWN. i agree that the soviets pretty much beat germany but if the americans did not invade normandy the whole of europe would have been communist and probaly still would today.... The germans had 80 percent of their casualties in the eastern front....

@yurtaevi you should read more history, germany was damned close to victory, but the soviet union is the true victor of ww2 not USA.

@yurtaevi You have no idea how easily Nazi Germany could have won the war. Just by moving there troops the Nazi's could make it impossible for the Soviet's and the whole Western front to move without leaving themselves open. Barbarossa was the stupidest thing Hitler did and it cost him the war (thank the Red army)

@StaffanGoldschmidt blitzkrieg was used in barbarossa, u stupid ass. germans were blunted near moscow, coz stalin moved a HUGE reserve from siperia, to help moskow.

@timesplitterdude technically it wasn't a true 'blitzkrieg' tactic as used in france, it was standard encirclement battles.
