  • :) love this song

  • Just beautiful............

  • Joanna Newsom isn't sublime. Sublime is Joanna Newsom.

  • Whoa @DeadPixels, I hope that was said tongue-in-cheek.

  • joanna newsom is the new Kylie minouge

  • Her lyrics mesmerize me.Yes you can compare her to Lennon, McCartney and Harrison.

  • I wonder if every Joanna Newsom video on Youtube have people arguing about her, comparing to 60's artists and such in the comment section.

  • @4feartheheartsofmen

i compared her in some other video to kate bush :D

  • there is something magical about 1:27. That line is just beautiful.

  • GREAT photo!

  • I think her latest two albums are the best ever! Her first was also very good, but not as genius as the two thereafter. My opinion

  • Outstanding. This is only the second song I've heard from her. I must admit that she has a sharp voice that takes some getting used to, but I think she will quickly become one of my favorites.

  • <3

  • joanna has changed so much as an artist over the last decade, but at the same time she's completely as she was when she began.

  • this is exquisite

  • This chick is the Beatles all by herself.

  • @opinioninflicting Nice comparison!

  • @opinioninflicting Or Bob Dylan. The voice of an incredible song writer the world grew to love and never turned back.

  • @mabs0253 Her first record is much better than most Bob Dylan, but she's fallen apart since then.

  • @opinioninflicting Saying she's better than Dylan is you opinion, as is that she's falling apart. She's had to make some changes but I don't believe she is any less of a musician.

  • @opinioninflicting You should never compare any 2 artists. They are individuals within themselves and should be treated as such. And individuals are set to change. As Joanna herself said, her music hasn't matured since Ys, it has been fully developed at each stage. Her voice has developed more, and she has gone through different things since then. I'm sure you are different to how you were 5 yrs ago as well. Does that mean you have also fallen apart?

  • @CantSeeTheStars Almost every titan of 60s music couldn't produce a profound piece of musical art or enduring pop single if their lives depended on it.

Most people "develop" out of genius pretty fast, and so has Joanna BTW, and it's sad as hell. This piece makes Beatles songs look bad--which no singer-songwriter of the 70s or 80s ever accomplished.

  • @opinioninflicting That. And Bob Dylan's inheritor.

  • I love this song, and i love the photograph you've taken...

  • There's something about this song

  • This woman's music will be my future children lullabies......They will never have nightmares falling a sleep to melodies like this.

  • She is the most talanted person I know. Her lyrics are absolutely wonderful and she sings like an angel. And I love the harp.

  • Sort those lyrics out! there are loads of mistakes

  • Lmfao. in the lyrics you put "Clam, CRAP, Cockle, Cowrie"

  • @robcool529 I AGREE

  • This is almost good... but then she gets weird with the voice again.

  • @Buelligan88 But that's what I like about her. She has such a uniquely pretty voice.

  • @Buelligan88 I would hope you'd be able to look past her voice, which I find charmingly unique, and appreciate the beautiful lyrics and the simple but perfect instrumentals.

  • @CorporalHicks8 I wish the same for my sister. I showed this to her on the off chance she might dig it - giving the very mystical quality of Joanna's music. But, to no avail, my sister absolutely loathes her, and voices it every time I listen to Joanna lol Ah, can't win them all, huh :P

  • In a weird way I always think of Joanna Newsom when I listen to bright eyes, they're both great and I love how honest their music sound

  • i love this song i think the milk-eyed mender is her work

  • ; j

  • ;

    j

  • Great photo!

  • @Btardforjustice

You think her voice is irritating, you think the lyrics are pedantic and you think her harp-palying is monotonous - many of us disagree. Why are you trying to dictate our tastes?

Oh and by the way, if you can't hear melody and rhythm, that's just your lack of knowledge about music theory. Not everything has to follow familiar - and overused - structures to be rhythmic and melodic.

  • @CeridwensLair you just got trolled son.

  • @Btardforjustice wtf, you are such a loser. shit troll, too ha ha.

  • STOP TALKING ABOUT IT, NEWFAG!

  • @Btardforjustice Man, I loved J-New before I knew what pitchfork thought of her... I find her voice much more appealing than KE$HA's. And lyrically, I'll take metaphors to plants and animals over the word "blow" repeated profusely and suggestively. We get it KE$HA, you like cocaine, high energy clubs, and sucking the D, very witty use of the homophone, NOT.

  • lol the guy who put the lyrics up wrote "Clam, crap, cockle, cowrie"

  • We can't blame the haters, their heads have been messed up by the music industry. They have no clue what music is anymore.

  • I am enchanted and mesmerized by this sirens' song... Breathtaking stuff..

.A spell has been cast and I am spell bound

  • your skin is something that i stir into my tea always hits me hard. <3

  • wait, I like bjork, and i like joanna newsom. I think they would rock out together. You really can't say artists this different but of equally worthy talent are better or worse than each other. They are on par with each other.

  • Wow. You know, this isn't my absolute most favorite of her songs, but I just love the line "There are some mornings when the sky looks like a road." It just seems so perfect, and I haven't the slightest clue why. I think that's the allure of most of her work.

  • I don't know....what am I missing? Her singing and harp playing just about pluck my last good nerve. Many praise her lyrics but I'll be damned if I can understand her diction. But she seems to be doing well without me as a fan!

  • Sort of Bjork meets squawk!

  • @bluebow23 creep

  • @bluebow23 very mature... kiddo.. Joanna Newsom is the shit..

  • And you are STARRY STARRY STARRY

  • So beautiful

  • my friends tell me her voice is poopy mids.. but i will never listen

  • The photo is just so perfect! For a beautiful song

  • who the fuck can say they play the harp and sound as awesome as joanna? seriously who plays the harp?? this woman is beyond amazing, she's outright enchanting

  • @motifontheback hey I play harp and take offense to that lol... not really though but whatev

  • @Stirrethcharybdis LOL i meant no offense by it!! haha i'm just surprised at the fact that she plays such an archaic instrument and she sounds damned good, no one really does that on a celebrity status

  • This is the kind of music where you can just tell by the songwriting that the artist is a really wonderful person. I can't imagine a money grubbing, cynical artist creating this music.

  • This is the most amazing song. Ever.

  • Wow I love her voice in this song!

  • also, aside from the beauty of the song, that's a lovely photo! marvelous job.

  • Beautiful picture.

  • Look up Tommy Wallach's cover of this. It's amazingly beautiful as well.

  • Yes, "clam, *crap, cockle, cowrie" may affect the mood of the reader. As much as I love this song, and the unique mood always makes me tremble, that unexpected error in your lyric writing made me burst out laughing. Thank you for putting this up nevertheless.

  • @justinvanelsberg1989 LOL yup broke the mood for me a bit too! First I was all emo, and then I was like typo nazi! ; )

  • You are right. This song is great. Good job writing out the lyrics... although it does say clam crap lol :) :) :)

  • On the lyrics at the end you put "clam crap cockle cowrie" hehe!! instead of craB you put CRAP LOL!

  • Most beautiful thing heard today.

  • This Isnt Joanna Newsom :l

  • @GEEkRoBot08

Oh really? Then who is it?

  • @GEEkRoBot08 who else could it BE? seriously. i'd like to see anyone try and emulate her, and be half as good.

  • does anyone make more purely, unaffectedly beautiful music than Joanna? Probably not.

  • This song makes me cry... :(

  • "And some machines are dropped from great heights lovingly"

  • your amazing! <33

  • she is amazing.

  • she has such an innocent, clear and unique voice, i fell in love with her music the first time i heard her voice

  • "Your skin is something that I stir into my tea"

    Beautiful

  • it's the most beautiful love song ever. So sad as love, so hopefull, so madly-poetic. Love it so much as I love my love.

  • Where is this version from? It's not the same as the one on Milk-Eyed Mender or Walnut Whales.

  • @Bongo7338 - this is the same as the version as Milk-Eyed Mender!

  • This song reminds me of my home town, and the people I fell in love with. In a just a small town.

  • amazing Joanna

  • I love U Joanna. Will U be my clam, crab, cockle and cowrie? :)

  • I am also off to buy some of her music on good old fashioned CD if i can find it!

  • Joanna Newsom is not only beautiful, but also talented as hell.

  • A beautiful, magical song, my fav by JN.

  • that picture sums up the song really well

  • Possibly my fave JN song!

    Great photo, by the way!

  • thanks for sharing :)

Gonna buy it on iTunes :)
