I grew up and know how business work.My dad owns a business. Best thing about starting a business are start small to earn people's trust to grow. Sorsen set really big at first then they lose more and more comsters to other VRS. Im sure they are in a big debt bec theres no way they can have all those money to buy those equiments and give it out for free. they must got a big loan to get those eqiuments and pay workers. so my guess they are in a big Debt right now. thats why they freak out.
Ok dude look it not about Sorenson it about all VRS Co. One of the VRS co. Has been shut down ok. By the way Sorenson has money because so we can have free stuff and new features. Plus FCC cut all VRS fund. You better think about what you post video.
Enter sorenson web page and get the facts on how serious the impact will be for all VRS providers. Lets join together and fight for the rights of deaf community and well deserved high and advanced technology. We will not stand to go back to TTY after all the enhanced equipment that we have been used to.
Wow, I learned something new. I didn't know those two companies you mentioned are supporting them financially. And I do agree with you about wanting to see their data analysis. I would like to see the money flow. How they are earning it and how they are spending it. I doubt they would give that out to people, but that most definitely is an excellent point!.
i am Deaf and living in Canada! i think americans are lucky to have vrs support.. we dont get it ... not yet.... the deaf communities all across Canada is fighting for us to have vrs here... for the Sorenson ... i agree with Amy.... Hard Facts to see!!! Sorenson donate lot of money just to make themselves look good and it s an tax write off!!! and for other people s comments about spoiled.. free vp 100/200... dont forget the deaf equipments are expensive... we pay lot of more money for them!
In all seriousness, we should ask our government to show us the hard data of all their lame brained ideas on how to fix the economy by creating more debt.
come on, get real! All the services that Sorenson Communications are providing are completely free of charge... free! and yet she's whining about nothing.
People she is not complaining, jesicaclements is correct. abcohende is challenging Sorenson because they failed to provide information as to how the money would be used. She is challenging them to show her hard data for the usage of this support.
PS: If you want to talk about "ungrateful brats" perhaps you should get the whole picture first. How can you be so judgmental and not know the whole story? Its her opinion, "get real people"..
I wonder how many of the posters understand the content of this message... She is not complaining about sorenson, she is asking for specific information about how the fcc rate cut would affect sorenson's ability to thrive as a company. Sorenson sent out video sign mail to many if not all of its customers asking for support but did not tell their customers how the rate cut would impact sorenson... She specifically asks for hard data, numbers, etc backing up the claims of poverty.
Oh and u also said something abt sorenson "giving" to GALLUDET!!! omgosh!!! r u serious at least we are CONTRIBUTING to the DEAF community!!! get real woman!
YOU have a FREE video phone and u get to call ANYONE ANYWHERE ANYTIME 24/7 and ur still ungrateful!!! u dont get charged for long distance but yes u say sorenson has alot of money? hmm well NO money is leaving your pocket to have PROFESSIONAL interpreters IN YOUR HOME 24/7!!! How about you giving your videophone to someone who would be MORE grateful AND going back to using your TDD and that BORING old BLAH relay service!!! GET A GRIP U SOUND LIKE AN UNGRATEFUL SPOILED BRAT!!!!!
correction.. typing error. These interpreters working VRS are not getting paid high amounts of money. they make more in the community. most love VRS..the service they are providing.. but cannot afford to hurt themselves and be on disability and forced into early retirement
You have a choice.. if your not happy with Sorenson's business.. Then add other VRS numbers on your VP. save your money, Buy MAC computers.. that have great webcams.... and use the HOVRS widget. you have choices.. don't accept the handouts.. and make your own mind up!
HOVRS, Sprint, Snap, and others out there.. that work very hard to provide quality service and are trying to develop our future. There is more out there.. and with out Deaf support.. then Sorenson will squash them out. support the other vrs providers.. and support the place you get the quality service.
true the community loves the qualified interpreters back in the community, but in a more well balanced world, we would use this platform to train fresh interpreters for our future. Sorenson isn't the only VRS that needs the rates to maintain their level. Not every VRS company has "papa Sorenson" to have their back. If you want to sock it to Sorenson.. then support the smaller vrs providers.. the ones that really care for your business.
now after a few years the GOOD interpreters are getting hurt and leaving vrs. There WAS plan to mentor and "grow" qualified interpreters but with cuts, that expense isnt entirely allowed. Now you may notice that many of your 'sorenson' interpreters are perhaps not the best, they dont understand you and ask for clarification more often then not.
. Not enough interpreters already in the community, now there was a high demand for them on VRS. this was the first time an interpreter could get secure work, but for what price. Interpreters were expected to interpret for 50 minutes straight, no teams and its all about the billable minutes. with the FCC cutting its rates, its vital that the interpreter has more and more billable minutes to cover the cost of the interpreter. The interpreters are getting paid high amounts of money.
This is a sensitive topic. People deserve qualified interpreters to conduct very important matters on the phone. some people discuss legal issues.. Child custody, deaths, weddings, dr appointments, stock exchanges.. several very important issues that demand a qualified interpreter to be effective. When Sorenson arrived they gave away vp's.. sure what a nice deal but the demand was way higher than the supply.
Sorenson initiated their FIRST video tele-marketing call to my home (among with other homes too) asking us to contact FCC not to cut the rates. That tactic was unacceptable. I have no problem using VRS. I don't understand that you call yourself as interpreter. You are interjecting your opinions what YOU think that Deaf people should behave, speak and do our daily lives.
Reconsider your profession or re-analyze your approach in that role.
That Video was not talkling about VRS at all. Watch closer. We, as a deaf community- have to fight hard to improve our rights to have better access to the hearing world. and it's people like you- who we have to fight.
How dare you to tell me what to say or not to say! Your comment implies that video-tele-marketing is 'okay' but Federal Communications Commission made a ruling that it is a wrong thing for the company to do so. Also, all of the money they spent on advertising and telling us to inform FCC not to cut rates, therefore I want to know how each VRS companies earn their reimbursement rate and where the money go.
I agree with you, interpreter2, it's free and yet we complain. you see, she works for hovrs and she's disgusted at sorenson cuz they're growing up so fast... lol
It also amazes me how ungrateful some Deaf people are when it comes to VRS, be it Sorenson or any other provider. The VPs are free, the service is free - seems like a fantastic deal to me! As a hearing person I can only sit and wait for the day when my local and long distance phone service is free. Oh, there is the cost of the internet connection. But I dare say that the majority of VP users already have cable/dsl, and all they needed installed for the VP to work was a router, Sorenson supplied
Hmmm... Good point. But let's back up a second.. Is there an organization/business dedicated to provide grants/money to promote Deaf Communities and etc? Sure, United Way but they put a cap on the funding and it's a control fundings. "favorism", for example, if you use the money for promoting "oralism", then they are all for it. The again, we do get charitable donations but it's usually for one organization but the rest aren't so lucky.
Amy, I totally agreed with you. Of course, big company would want more money and push out the competitions. You made an excellent point and hopefully that Sorenson shows the hard data for all of us to see.
That fine you dont want fcc pay sorenson me understand. Later happen sorenson give video phone free no more you complain DONT! Sorenson want money, them company surprise jaw drop. Company what for? make money. Not support sorenson mean us can't afford buy vp hurt, dont think about your self.
continue: While other vrs providers use Sorenson's equipments and they make their own profits to earn when customers use vrs services. BUT IMPORTANT that we need VRS SERVICES means we can use any vrs service providerS therefore we do not want FCC to cut the rate and not only rate itself but want to extend to 3 year plan instead of one year plan (budget). Ok if not for Sorenson invents or distributes vps we never have them today.
wow.... thats so different story.. i dont understand Sorenson VRS were opened call center in CANADA.. but they wont let us to using VRS ... our Interpering service for Deaf in CANADA NOT AMERICAN S CALL....
All calls must either originate in the US or be TO the US. If not, the FCC won't reimburse for the call. Canada to US is fine and US to Canada is fine, but Canada to Canada... nope. Not allowed.
Whoa Whoa... Sorenson had a lion's share of 82 percent of video relay services. I am not putting down Sorenson, and all I am asking for transparency. What are the consequences Sorenson will face if the rate cut occurs? Please go and visit my vlog/blog and you will see a lot of interesting comments there...
PLEASE!. Sorenson has spent over 100 million dollars giving away video phones and free services. They need to pay interpreters, service calls, tech supports, and engineers. VP is Free! Sorenson is with U to prevent FCC rate cut.. This company is also trying to protect other VRS provider.. Do yourself a favor... Quit scape goating and take a stand!! Who cares if close caption co. makes Billions of dollars, as long as the service is there Im happy!! It takes money to improve quality. So PLEASE!!!
You make an interesting point, Amy. No wonder why some of the viewers like Niemsen did not like VRS because they wanted to continue getting more profits.
