I think Bobby Fischer should be remembered for his chess achievements only, not his political and religious rants. Just because someone is a genius in one area doesn't make him an expert in every other area. People need to learn to separate a person from their achievements. It's like with Michael Jackson--he was a musical an entertainment genius, and his music will affect the world for generations to come, but personally, he was very strange, eccentric, and made questionable decisions.

Also they could play the greatest players in the world for training/to get better in their own country. If Bobby wanted to face real competition he had to leave the country. Besides, he was popular the world over. It's not just Americans that call him the best, and that doesn't reflect ignorance it's just an opinion.

That's right, their greatest training was provided by Botvinnik-a Jew. Tal, Bronstein, Korchnoi, Geller, Kasparov were Jewish. And... Fischer was Jewish too, even if he denied it (his both biological parents were Jews). Yes: get used to this idea: 65% of all the Chess World Champions were Jewish. Fischer was great once. I'd like to remember him for the great chess player he was, but it's hard to ignore his hateful remarks toward the country that helped propel him to that greatness. :(
He might have gotten the short end of the stick at times (don't we all?) but his hateful attitude was unjust and his hateful remarks uncalled for.

Certainly one of the most, if not THE most, talented chess players of all time. Right after he won the title in 72, he became a media darling, making many TV appearances. Too bad he seemed to lose his marbles, over the last several years of his life. A match between Fischer and Kasparov would have been the battle of the century.

Kaparov praised fisher for what he has done to the game. But Kasparov is far greater player than Fisher and almost champ for 20 years as no1. Fisher did won once and got nuts and insane. Fischer through his last championship game to Kasparov. Noone could beat him and he even said hisself that Chess eventually got to be (for him atleast) like playing poker where everyone has the same cards everytime. He got bored with it and quit, and became a recluse

i agree with you that kasparow and fisher are or were the two greatest chess players of all times.
but i think fisher was a little bit better. At least if you see the conditions. kasparow playedin an age where he had computers and databases to prepare. Fisher didnt have them. He had to find anything in books or at the board. thats why i think he would have won against Kasparow if they both had played at the same time

I see that as the opposite. It was easier back then for Fischer because nowadays everyone has the chance to use computers and databases to prepare. Therefore it is harder to be such a dominant player as these both players were... Kasparov saw the "computer invasion" and was still able to be the top dog.
But ok, this is all just speculation of my own, they were both great, I think no one can tell the ultimate truth.
