If you want to hate on the narration, do it elsewhere. I marched in this show, and I was the one doing that narration. I understand hating electronics on the field (I marched Bluecoats in 2003, when we spearheaded the anti-electronics campaign that eventually failed), but in this show we definitely didn't use the narration to tell a story. We quoted the actual inscription on "The One Ring", from the book itself. That's hardly using electronics to tell the story that the music is supposed to.
I'm biased because I'm one of the Trombones on the field, but the low brass choir (After the Shadowfax bit in the first movement) STILL gives me cold chills. Especially when I hear the piece played by the London Symphony Orchestra. I get goosebumps and the hair on my neck stands on edge... That passage is the reason to play brass. (As if you needed a reason).
Gotta be honest; the narration at the beginning was sort of cheesy and lame. Maybe it was cooler in 1998.
That said, the band's sound is pretty good. The arrangement was well written, and the sets were appealing. I'd give it an 8 out of 10.

This is our show this year, albeit, not as good as this, but it's a very similar selection.
