LMAO I love how they showed Ester Randolph rehearsing her court statement SOO confidently...and then they cut back and forth to her case falling apart behind her back! I really thought Randolph would "disappear" before she put Nucky away though but that would have been too obvious to trace back to Nucky.
Too bad the show is set in the 1920s. If it were set in the modern day landscape of organized crime, Jimmy would have been arrested and charged under RICO and received 17 consecutive life sentences + 432 years. Then of course he'd agree to testify against Nucky and his former criminal partners in exchange for a reduced sentence. From there he would have arranged a book deal and went on 60 Minutes to promote it. Next comes retirement in some shitty condo in suburban Arizona.
I would have never objected with such talented creators, directors, and writers, but Jimmy, even if part of his charisma comes from his look (and i'm not gay or a woman), was such an essential character who made this show complete, he was a balancing force, this is such a tragedy to see that this character wont be developed any further, i'm just so fucking disappointed actually, and i never thought i'd say that about any HBO show, I somehow hope that the real reason was personal or conflict...

This seemed shocking but I'm sure more people will go next season too. Eli perhaps and even Margaret. If they place Nucky with that new girl from the club like everyone is guessing than I see no reason as to why they'd keep Margaret around. I really want Eli dead so let's hope that comes to light soon too. I'm not giving up yet unless the show just sucks on it's own.
Jimmy just didn't have more aces under his sleeve. Whatever he had to offer was given in season 2; not because of the killings or his incredible fast rise to power; but because he lost of the essential in his persona. Looking for forgiveness is not an option many times especially with someone you've tried to kill....
And of course I was raging when they offed Jimmy he was my favorite character....Still can't get over it but listen, this is an amazing show and there are a hell of a lot great characters on the show....I wanna see the rise of Capone and Lucky...And lets not forget about bad ass Richard....Season 3 will be bad ass
The only reason why he killed Jimmy is because he believed his brother over Jimmy when he asked them both who tried to kill him. Which we know it was his brother who suggested they they should kill him but Jimmy didn't want to do that.
I've heard that the next season is going to be set 10 years from now. Which would probably bring Arnold Rothstein's character into it more. Also remember Gillian's words to Jimmy's son? "You're going to be a big man in this city, just like you're father". He'll be 14 in season 3 if I am correct, wonder if Gillian's gonna tap that as well?
here's how it will play out: Richard will kill Manny, Owen will kill Richard in showdown, Nucky will kill Owen once he find out Owen banged his girl. Can't decide if Nucky would kill Margarete or not upon discovering the affair. I'm hoping he would
@Delta0prative Ehhh, Owen killing Richard will need a better excuse. Nucky's business with Manny will need to be a more lucrative liability for something like that to happen. Just my opinion though.
Jimmy probably would have been a big death eventually in the show any ways, because they can't kill off any of the real gangsters because they have a real timeline to follow. There are few big players on this show who they can kill unless they make it to 1928-29 and off Arnold... Which I don't want!
anybody pissed about jimmy just goes to show how good boardwalk empire really is, how pissed were you when leo dicaprio gets capped in the departed? its called a tragedy and jimmy was a tragic character, he f*cked his mom, killed his dad and his wife got killed, what else can this guy possibly go through? BEST TV SHOW EVER
@bassplayer1617 I don't mind the grim turn, kind of reminds me of the first Godfather. Hell, they even admitted they used the movie as a reference. The killings, the church and family events, tying the loose ends, and even Jimmy's death reminds me of Carlo's death at the end of the movie.
I can understand that Nucky can't forgive jimmy's betrayal but Eli's situation is just bullshit. He tried to kill him twice (in the fist fight and with the hired hitman), also he was ready to testify against him, sending him to the electric chair. But hey, "blood is thicker than water, go to jail for 1 year and we are good. Now lets go kill the guy who saved my butt from the chair!"
@svgcr Blood is thicker. And what makes you think Nucky forgave Eli huh, stop being ignorant, anything can happen and Nucky is a gangster, if you're worthy he'll keep you around.
@MrSoprano92 By forgiving I meant he didn't kill him, his "punishment" is a year in jail. And the fact that they went together to kill jimmy tells me that they're not exactly enemies right now.Stop being ignorant? go fuck yourself
@svgcr Eli isn't a threat to Nucky anymore. He got betrayed by Jimmy as well, and the only reason he went after Nucky was because he was jealous of his intelligence and everything it brought him. Nucky is a much more intelligent man than Eli, and both of them know this.
@svgcr jimmy helping Nucky at the end was one way Jimmy was trying to "make things right" basically jimmy died (in the inside at elast) when he went over that trench, and it was mere luck that the grenade didnt kill him. nucky doesnt owe jimmy anything. nucky sent him to princeton but he fucked up. gave him a job, fucked it up...jimmy is one of my favorite characters but i think the writers had in mind to end him sooner or later. and nucky was the guy to do it.
I like Margaret she is gonna fuck nuckys world up.I see why she hates him deep inside because he is a shitty person. That's why Jimmy and Eli turned on him because he was a dick In the first place. He pimped out Jimmy's mom when she was 13.Then when his brother got shot he dissed him because he was no use to him at the time.I was hoping this season nucky would learn to treat people better but no he wont.He forgives Eli even tho he almost killed him when they were fighting but kills jimmy? Bad call
@Monnie66 Eli is dumb. That's his character. He will never be as intelligent as Nucky or even Jimmy, which is why Nucky chose to forgive him.He can be manipulated, unlike Jimmy who only wanted to make things right because he hit rock bottom. Jimmy would've been a bigger threat than Eli. Eli betrayed Nucky because he was jealous of him. He can't be a sheriff anyway, so he's even less of a threat now than he was at the beginning of season two.
@Monnie66 Sure thing! I mean, at this point, I wonder where the serie will go, but that's why I'm looking forward to it! Who's gonna be the main antagonist? Eli, Margaret, Richard, Owen, Lucky or some new character? I have no clue.
And I'm sure some new characters will step in to fill the space left by Jimmy's death. At this point, it reminds me of Season 5 of the Sopranos: Tony whacked Ralph whowas a thorn in his side for two seasons, new guys step in to fill in.
I hope Richard goes Berserk and murders all of them in the next season. But it must go on, another fallen goon in the rise of boardwalk empire. Who are they gonna get to fill Jimmy's BIG shoes? This is gonna need a lot of action to keep me interested...
@killsquashi I agree on the action part. To me, season two was so much better than season one (which I still like, mind you) but I'm still looking forward to what will they do for season three.
Does anyone know the titles of the songs played during this video? At least the guitar music at the begining, when they talking about "To the Lost"... It's wonderful. I'd like to listen to the full music track.
@bizzareodin I disagree. Season one's ending had Jimmy and Eli plotting with the Commodore against Nucky, but on the opposite, except for Margaret's signing to the church, everything ends so well that I'm looking forward to WHAT is going to destroy that beautiful and happy temporary peace :P And season 3 might not be in 1922, but much later, which could allow many new interesting characters as good or even better than Jimmy ;) Just wait and see before judging!
I am MAAAAD about this shit I want Richard to GO OFF on these assholes I don't give a shit about Nucky to be honest.Richard is gonna turn into a FUCKING SUPER SAIYAN when he figures out what happened!!!!
Jimmy was one of my favorite characters as well but I think he was so psychologically and emotionally damaged from not only what happened with his mother but being in the war as well. I can't imagine the guilt he must have felt. He had already died long ago in the war. He was living the rest of his life numbly. That is why he must have walked into Nucky's trap knowingly. He wanted to make make things right as best he could before he entered the next life.
Eli killed a man and they forgot to add his missing ass in there smh.He told his brother that he wouldn't forgive him but he did but not jimmy? and mind you he saved him from being someones bitch in prison. The only reason he seem like he was ready to die because the writers made it that way duh.Why keep around everyone jimmy knows like his mother and his son and his war friend, whats the point of keeping them around then they say the story is around Al, Lucky, Rothstein and Nuck.
At least they made an epic scene out of Jimmy's death guys. At least it wasn't like in No Country For Old Men where it didn't even show the main character's death. At the end of season 2 of The Sopranos when Pussy died, I thought the same thing, but that show was still awesome afterward. We still have Nucky, Richard, Capone, Chalky, Langsky, Luciano, Rosthein, and a bunch of other characters to look forward to seeing. Be positive :)
SUch a great show. Now for season three, let's ditch the horrible opening credits. Nothing about relates to the show stylistically. Please get something better.
It was Jimmy's time to go. Simple as that. If he lived without paying the consequences for his actions this season, THEN it would be a crap show. Jimmy knew his death was coming, and he didn't care. He was a broken man. The ending to the finale was an absolutely beautiful scene, especially with the WWI flashback after he was shot. I'm interested in seeing how Harrow handles all of this in season 3.
Don't be too upset losing a favorite character. (I was pulling for Jimmy to the very last moment possible.) I'm sure it will help the story in the end. Look at how soon major key characters are killed off in "Game of Thrones".
All we have left in this series now is a pool of lowlifes and sociopaths backstabbing each other. And Margaret being an irritating whining killjoy. I think they had balls to do it- but they just gutted this series like a fish. They just left Richard. He wont last long- he will revenge Jimmy by sniping Manny (who he will obviously suspect). Then he will go after Nucky, who will use the IRA character to kill Richard off. Then there will be no-one human left to invest in, and a ratings collapse.
Dude Richard knows Jimmy was walking to his death. He will not be surprised at all when he hears of his death. He accepted it because he, like Jimmy is a soldier. Jimmy knew he was walking to his death. He knew it was a setup. And so did Richard. He didn't go because Jimmy asked him not to. That's how he knows Jimmy was going to die. Even the writers confirmed Richard knew what was coming.
Jimmy told Nucky he cant be half a gangster... Nucky told Eli that blood is thicker than water... Jimmy betrays Nucky after EVERYTHING that hes done for him and his family... Jimmy betrayed the boss of Atlantic City. Jimmy knew he was going to have to pay for that betrayal, in the end he knew was going to die and he accepted his death. Its why he gave his dog tags to Tommy and told Richard to try and embrace life. Jimmy accepted his fate. Fans should too.
@iLecter Jimmy was NOT my favorite character. I think this was a fitting end to his story. After having to watch his loveless marriage with his wife unravel for two seasons, and all the other things mentioned in the comments section (his betrayal, killing of his father, etc.) it is the perfect time to end his story. I am sure there will be another badboy in the third season for you to relate to. #TeamNuck
Eli is a more molded guy. He is like clay. Jimmy was great, but fairly erratic, and in the end, too disturbed to be an asset. Blood was thicker than water indeed. What a beautiful tribute to such a sad character. WW1 destroyed many lives.
Boardwalk Empire was easily the greatest thing that has ever appeared on t.v...
But by killing Jimmy off, they've thrown it all away. No one is looking forward to season 3; Nucky is hated, Margaret is hated and most of the other characters are hated. Van Alden was exceptionally compelling, but they've made him a small character too. I think Terence will realise the mistake he has made when the ratings for season 3 dramatically drop.
I'll still watch it; albeit if it's now going to be shit.
@iLecter there's no way it's goin to be shit, they'll introduce a new character or al capone and the lads will become more involved. the show tries to follow history so they had to kill jimmy, just like jimmy boyd who his character is based on. seems like i'm one of a very few who actually thot it was a good twist...
@realdoogie Fair enough. But why create him to become such a pivotal part in the script and series if you're merely going to kill him off in the second season? This show is beyond exceptional, but killing Jimmy off was extremely poor writing. Not only do the audience now resent the protagonist (Nucky), we've also lost our favourite character, a character which we could not only relate to, but truly understand. It's like killing Peter off from Family Guy - things just won't be the same.
@realdoogie jimmy boyd was not killed by nucky johnson in real life. Jimmys death was a fictional event written into the show. The real jimmy doesnt die until the 1970s, about 5 years after the real nucky's death
I'm with Phillervamp69 - If it is relevant to the on going story then so be it, part of what keeps the best shows fresh is its ability to surprise & shock. Also Jimmy was a back stabber so it all stood to reason in the end despite his attempts to reconcile
Everyone, Nucky will not die next season, or ever in this show. He is Boardwalk's Tony Soprano. That being said, however, I want Richard to kill Manny Horvitz with all the brutality that is necessary.
@KingGopherNuts Exactly, he's the main character, Jimmy wasn't, people should know that. They wouldn't of killed him off, there would be no show without him. It was a good time to ends Jimmy's character. Don't get me wrong, I loved Jimmy, he was my favourite character. But when it's time to kill a character, do it. That's the same why I felt about Pussy on The Sopranos and it's how I feel now.
Damn... Jimmy was a tragic character; he made a lot of mistakes. But he didn't have to die this way. I can't believe Nucky chose Eli over Jimmy. Looking forward to Richard blowing Nucky's brains out next season!
all im gunna say..they killed jimmy who was way more fun to watch then nucky. Nucky better step the fuck up and become a cold hearted gangster. And if they kill chalky white(who i think is going to be super pissed at nucky for killing jimmy) im gunna stop watching!
i didnt like it when they killed jimmy, i fucking hated it, but that just shows how i love boardwalk empire, you create some kind of bond with these characters, and u feel upset, sad, anger etc. after something like that happens. this was the only way for jimmy to go, he accepted it, he knew he was just an empty shell after the war, battlefields of world war one took it for him forever.
I think there was no place left for Jimmy to make his mark...he had his chance to do great but he fucked up again and again...The only thing he really had, he destroyed..his relationship with Nucky. It's unfortunate but considering how Jimmy royally fucked up this season, it was inevitable. It's so sad cos his mom's so fucked up it's contagious and he suffered the worst!! Nucky did what he had to do..Jimmy expected it and accepted it :( I'll miss him though!! and that pout :p
To quote Jesse Cox: People are glenching their buttholes way too much about the finale. I loved Jimmy too but I accept what happened to him. Its tragic, its uncalled for and I would personally love to see him more. But Im not so freaking butthurt about it like so many people seem to be. No offense towards anyone thought. Everyone can have their opinions and sense of taste. Will miss Jimmy for sure.
I was a big fan of this show from day one I wanted to be a part of it but know I'm done I'm done watching from here Jimmy was my favorite person in the show but u killed him fuck u boardwalk empire I'm done go fuck your selfs u destroyed the show I hope your happy u lost alot of viewers with that last episode!!!!
@phillervamp69 It's a show. People get killed off. The leads are not immune. That's what makes the show so compelling. Season 3 will likely involve the rise of one Al Capone, which should be awesome. Quit your crying.
For people who say that the writers are genius. That is a load of bullshit. Something had to have gone sour between Pitt and the production company that led to him being let go or him deciding to move onto something else. If you really follow the show then you would know that last scene was not true to Jimmy's character at all. His character is the type that goes out with a bang not conceding.
@tginn07 Not really, as they say in this little doc, Jimmy's life has been going downhill since the serie began, on the run in Chicago in season one, losing his mistress and ultimately his betrayal of Nucky leading to his death in season two due to his reckless and overconfident nature. I loved Jimmy, but I knew for a while that his death would be inevitable. Eli was "forgiven", but I'm pretty sure he'll be left out of the loop from now on.
@NachtKaiser666 I agree Jimmy may have hit rock bottom but in the finale they show his character as he has new life. Look at many documentaries of many real gangsters, They face adversity all the time but accept it because it is the life they have choosen. They all fight on just like Jimmy seemed to be, and then they show him giving up? And even if he couldnt fit into the Atlantic city story line, he was the most versatile charachter on the show, he could of gone back to Chicago.
They talk about Jimmy saying his goodbyes to everyone, but in reality they glance over jimmy's emotional context with Manny. He did kill his wife, and Nucky's response to the brutality of Angelina's murder provide evidence that he would allow Jimmy to kill Manny before dieing. Actually it wouldn't even hurt to ask if he expected death from the situation. This smacks of writers not being truthful to their characters, and instead sacrificing emotionally truth to go in a different direction.
No way in hell would jimmy ever do that. This one reason why I lobe Vince Gilligan writer of breaking bad. He lets the characters write for him, what would they do and where will that go...not where the writers would like to see them do and force them to act out of the character!
jimmy was not the type of person to stand down like that!
People are so naive, all of a sudden one character goes, it's as if the developments with Al, Lucky, Rothstein and Nucky's transition to full gangster is all nothing. This is a perfect case of viewers becoming too attached to a character. This is how it was, it's what must be done, that's all. Jimmy is dead, other characters will be introduce, they're not trying to give you what you want, this is a great written show.
@MrSoprano92 It's one thing to kill off a character, but how can you not get attached to a character if he's on screen about 45% of the time? It's like if they were to kill off Jax from Sons of Anarchy in the second season.
@MrSoprano92 No, you're the one that doesn't get it. Why read a book or watch show or movie if you're not gonna get attached to some characters? If there is no feeling of realism--which is through some attachment, then what's the point? We all loved Jimmy, that's why we're taking his death so hard. We can't all dehumanize and just discard people and move on to the next in life, why should we toward a great character in a story? Doesn't make people naive, it makes them human.
@maddywoo13 I'm not saying people shouldn't get attached, i'm aiming at those calling the show poor for simply writing off a character, another aspect of being human is accepting the fact that those you love, will die, no matter, which adds to the realism in the show, and therefore makes it a well written show. I just hate those who just because a character is lost, it means the show will become crap, it's merely illustrating what happens in a gangster life, people you like die.
@MrSoprano92 I understand and I apologize if it seems like I was jumping down your throat, but I thought that you were--in civil sense--singly bashing people who get attached to characters, but I can tell you are a very thoughtful person. And, yes, it does make it really good writing.
@maddywoo13 Nad bro, it's cool. I got attached to Jimmy and damn near cried at his death, he was so cool, calm and collected a troubled man who will only ever find peace is through death. Thanks, i really appreciate your kind words. I see you're a fan of Mad Men, i salute you! :)
@MrSoprano92 You are right about that, its a grim solace to take in for Jimmy. Gillian screwed him up good. Any BE and Mad Men fan is friend of mine. Good taste! =]
@maddywoo13 I tend to watch these before I watch the episode because I tend to understand more. But I have to agree with you that Gillian (as much as I like her) because of what she did it really screwed him up. But I think we also have to take into account the death of Angela I think that that event respectively made him hit the bottom hence with the future episode dealing with flashbacks with his mother and his fiance. Mad men fan as well, it has 3 more seasons how do u feel about that?
@TheMoviefan78 Mad Men is only getting three more seasons? That's insane! Its one of the best shows to have happen on basic cable television. They could at least do four lol
Oh well with this hiatus, I guess people will take what they can get. I'm glad they're coming back at all. And I agree. Gillian played a significant role in Jimmy's cold nature, but Angela's death was probably a push over the ledge for him.
@MrSoprano92 Well I am a girl LOL everybody thinks I'm a guy, I wonder why is that. Yes, The Sopranos, it's....I can watch it over and over and pick out something new about a character. That show has a level of writing I haven't seen a proper match for yet (Maybe BE)
@maddywoo13 It's cuz you're almost too cool to be a girl and watch such shows, it's very hard to find a girl who's into such dramas. Not to sound as if i'm stereotyping or anything. David Chase is a genius not only for making such an idea, but the team he chose to help write the series, and i think Mad Men has a superb writing style, and it's interesting because of the three shows that i think have superb writing are created by those who worked with Chase on The Sopranos, credit David Chase.
@maddywoo13 From what ive heard bouncing around on the net for the past two years (i think its been so far) Mad Men has been on strike due to contracts and money. As we all figured. Mad Men is getting only 3 more seasons, that may have changed but last time i checked thats what they said.
How the hell do you kill a character that's as vital to your plot development as the main character himself? If they killed him in the last episode or even the last season, I wouldn't mind as much, but he was my favorite character of the show, and unfortunately this episode will be like a series finale for me because I don't see any other character worth watching anymore. Unless HBO pulls some ABC-esque dream sequence to bring Jimmy back, I'm done with this show. Terrible execution! /rant
i was shocked to see jimmy die, though he wasn't necessarily my favorite character on the show, he kept things interesting. Im still looking forward to season 3 tho, just to see how the show progresses now that a major character was killed off.
I think it was a mistake because of his popularity. Eli should have gone, no one would miss him but they also had to get going for Al's rise to power and Lucky and Myer's story line so it made sense too. But I have a feeling Nucky just lost a huge fan base. He seemed too cold killing Jimmy off after all, he had raised him like a son and he didn't bat an eye. Hope Margaret cheats on him some more now!
FUCK!!!! Jimmy dead. Thats it for me.........

After Nucky's second (killing) shot he turns to Manny and Owen who both kind of turn their heads away.
He then looks to his brother and Eli nods.
Nice touch with the whole "blood thicker than water" theme.

No Winters, nobody can make sense of it because it doesn't make any sense.
I understand wanting to give the audience a sense that no character is invincible to heighten suspense, but the dude (Michael Pitt) made your show.
Do you know how many girls (including my girlfriends) hearts you have shattered?
Sadly, the only reason Jimmy died was because every other main character that wasn't entirely fictional had longer to live.
Great Job Scorcese,

I've heard that the next season is going to be set 10 years from now. Which would probably bring Arnold Rothstein's character into it more. Also remember Gillian's words to Jimmy's son? "You're going to be a big man in this city, just like you're father". He'll be 14 in season 3 if I am correct, wonder if Gillian's gonna tap that as well?

Jimmy probably would have been a big death eventually in the show any ways, because they can't kill off any of the real gangsters because they have a real timeline to follow. There are few big players on this show who they can kill unless they make it to 1928-29 and off Arnold... Which I don't want!

Now lets go kill the guy who saved my butt from the chair!"
svgcr 2 months ago
@svgcr Blood is thicker. And what makes you think Nucky forgave Eli huh, stop being ignorant, anything can happen and Nucky is a gangster, if you're worthy he'll keep you around.
MrSoprano92 2 months ago
@MrSoprano92 By forgiving I meant he didn't kill him, his "punishment" is a year in jail. And the fact that they went together to kill jimmy tells me that they're not exactly enemies right now.Stop being ignorant? go fuck yourself
svgcr 2 months ago
@svgcr Eli isn't a threat to Nucky anymore. He got betrayed by Jimmy as well, and the only reason he went after Nucky was because he was jealous of his intelligence and everything it brought him. Nucky is a much more intelligent man than Eli, and both of them know this.
NachtKaiser666 2 months ago
@svgcr jimmy helping Nucky at the end was one way Jimmy was trying to "make things right" basically jimmy died (in the inside at elast) when he went over that trench, and it was mere luck that the grenade didnt kill him. nucky doesnt owe jimmy anything. nucky sent him to princeton but he fucked up. gave him a job, fucked it up...jimmy is one of my favorite characters but i think the writers had in mind to end him sooner or later. and nucky was the guy to do it.
shaneldias421 3 weeks ago
I like Margaret she is gonna fuck nuckys world up.I see why she hates him deep inside because he is a shitty person. That's why Jimmy and Eli turned on him because he was a dick In the first place. He pimped out Jimmy's mom when she was 13.Then when his brother got shot he dissed him because he was no use to him at the time.I was hoping this season nucky would learn to treat people better but no he wont.He forgives Eli even tho he almost killed him when they were fighting but kills jimmy? Bad call
Monnie66 2 months ago
@Monnie66 Eli is dumb. That's his character. He will never be as intelligent as Nucky or even Jimmy, which is why Nucky chose to forgive him.He can be manipulated, unlike Jimmy who only wanted to make things right because he hit rock bottom. Jimmy would've been a bigger threat than Eli. Eli betrayed Nucky because he was jealous of him. He can't be a sheriff anyway, so he's even less of a threat now than he was at the beginning of season two.
NachtKaiser666 2 months ago
@NachtKaiser666 Yea that true and will you be watching season 3?
Monnie66 2 months ago
@Monnie66 Sure thing! I mean, at this point, I wonder where the serie will go, but that's why I'm looking forward to it! Who's gonna be the main antagonist? Eli, Margaret, Richard, Owen, Lucky or some new character? I have no clue.
And I'm sure some new characters will step in to fill the space left by Jimmy's death. At this point, it reminds me of Season 5 of the Sopranos: Tony whacked Ralph whowas a thorn in his side for two seasons, new guys step in to fill in.
NachtKaiser666 2 months ago
@NachtKaiser666 The only person that can fill that void of jimmy for me will be his son if he is older now you know that would be neat.

There was nothing in the episode that made me excited for the next season.
bizzareodin 2 months ago
@bizzareodin I disagree. Season one's ending had Jimmy and Eli plotting with the Commodore against Nucky, but on the opposite, except for Margaret's signing to the church, everything ends so well that I'm looking forward to WHAT is going to destroy that beautiful and happy temporary peace :P And season 3 might not be in 1922, but much later, which could allow many new interesting characters as good or even better than Jimmy ;) Just wait and see before judging!

Monnie66 2 months ago

Stvkrn 2 months ago
It was Jimmy's time to go. Simple as that. If he lived without paying the consequences for his actions this season, THEN it would be a crap show. Jimmy knew his death was coming, and he didn't care. He was a broken man. The ending to the finale was an absolutely beautiful scene, especially with the WWI flashback after he was shot. I'm interested in seeing how Harrow handles all of this in season 3.
PeachSurebet 2 months ago 14

Then there will be no-one human left to invest in, and a ratings collapse.
stuporstar 2 months ago
@stuporstar

#TeamNuck
dannydixon 2 months ago

I'll still watch it; albeit if it's now going to be shit.
iLecter 2 months ago
@iLecter there's no way it's goin to be shit, they'll introduce a new character or al capone and the lads will become more involved. the show tries to follow history so they had to kill jimmy, just like jimmy boyd who his character is based on. seems like i'm one of a very few who actually thot it was a good twist...
daireb123 2 months ago
@iLecter you also have to realize that the show is based on true events...Jimmy was killed by Nucky Johnson for betraying him IRL.
realdoogie 2 months ago
@realdoogie Fair enough. But why create him to become such a pivotal part in the script and series if you're merely going to kill him off in the second season? This show is beyond exceptional, but killing Jimmy off was extremely poor writing. Not only do the audience now resent the protagonist (Nucky), we've also lost our favourite character, a character which we could not only relate to, but truly understand. It's like killing Peter off from Family Guy - things just won't be the same.

i didnt like it when they killed jimmy, i fucking hated it, but that just shows how i love boardwalk empire, you create some kind of bond with these characters, and u feel upset, sad, anger etc. after something like that happens. this was the only way for jimmy to go, he accepted it, he knew he was just an empty shell after the war, battlefields of world war one took it for him forever.

I think there was no place left for Jimmy to make his mark...he had his chance to do great but he fucked up again and again...The only thing he really had, he destroyed..his relationship with Nucky. For people who say that the writers are genius. That is a load of bullshit. Something had to have gone sour between Pitt and the production company that led to him being let go or him deciding to move onto something else. If you really follow the show then you would know that last scene was not true to Jimmy's character at all. His character is the type that goes out with a bang not conceding.
tginn07 2 months ago
@tginn07 Not really, as they say in this little doc, Jimmy's life has been going downhill since the serie began, on the run in Chicago in season one, losing his mistress and ultimately his betrayal of Nucky leading to his death in season two due to his reckless and overconfident nature. I loved Jimmy, but I knew for a while that his death would be inevitable. Eli was "forgiven", but I'm pretty sure he'll be left out of the loop from now on.
NachtKaiser666 2 months ago
@NachtKaiser666 I agree Jimmy may have hit rock bottom but in the finale they show his character as he has new life. Look at many documentaries of many real gangsters, They face adversity all the time but accept it because it is the life they have choosen. They all fight on just like Jimmy seemed to be, and then they show him giving up? And even if he couldnt fit into the Atlantic city story line, he was the most versatile charachter on the show, he could of gone back to Chicago.
tginn07 2 months ago

MrSoprano92 2 months ago 9
@MrSoprano92 It's one thing to kill off a character, but how can you not get attached to a character if he's on screen about 45% of the time? It's like if they were to kill off Jax from Sons of Anarchy in the second season.
ShinobiHovik 2 months ago
@MrSoprano92 No, you're the one that doesn't get it. Why read a book or watch show or movie if you're not gonna get attached to some characters? If there is no feeling of realism--which is through some attachment, then what's the point? We all loved Jimmy, that's why we're taking his death so hard. We can't all dehumanize and just discard people and move on to the next in life, why should we toward a great character in a story? Doesn't make people naive, it makes them human.
maddywoo13 2 months ago
@maddywoo13 I'm not saying people shouldn't get attached, i'm aiming at those calling the show poor for simply writing off a character, another aspect of being human is accepting the fact that those you love, will die, no matter, which adds to the realism in the show, and therefore makes it a well written show. I just hate those who just because a character is lost, it means the show will become crap, it's merely illustrating what happens in a gangster life, people you like die.
MrSoprano92 2 months ago 24
@MrSoprano92 I understand and I apologize if it seems like I was jumping down your throat, but I thought that you were--in civil sense--singly bashing people who get attached to characters, but I can tell you are a very thoughtful person. And, yes, it does make it really good writing.
maddywoo13 2 months ago
@maddywoo13 Nad bro, it's cool. I got attached to Jimmy and damn near cried at his death, he was so cool, calm and collected a troubled man who will only ever find peace is through death. Thanks, i really appreciate your kind words. I see you're a fan of Mad Men, i salute you! :)

@MrSoprano92 You are right about that, its a grim solace to take in for Jimmy. Gillian screwed him up good. Any BE and Mad Men fan is friend of mine. Good taste! =]
maddywoo13 2 months ago
@maddywoo13 I tend to watch these before I watch the episode because I tend to understand more. But I have to agree with you that Gillian (as much as I like her) because of what she did it really screwed him up. But I think we also have to take into account the death of Angela I think that that event respectively made him hit the bottom hence with the future episode dealing with flashbacks with his mother and his fiance. Mad men fan as well, it has 3 more seasons how do u feel about that?
TheMoviefan78 2 months ago
@TheMoviefan78 Mad Men is only getting three more seasons? That's insane! Its one of the best shows to have happen on basic cable television. They could at least do four lol
Oh well with this hiatus, I guess people will take what they can get. I'm glad they're coming back at all. And I agree. Gillian played a significant role in Jimmy's cold nature, but Angela's death was probably a push over the ledge for him.

/rant
