@bluenapalm123 - hehe, deffo Linz for sure :-D I've subscribed to her, have a look at her reviews on lady clothing and her riding Darth. Her YouTube name is BikerChickVids. I didn't mention in the video the light does flash until the wheels turn, then the check is complete and it goes off. The K1200S I took in PX for the GS does the same (phew) Thanks for your comments. :-)
Must definitely set the valve clearances and the cam shaft end float tight on a cold engine. my 1150GS sounded like a bag of nails last summer following a dealer service and now runs sweetly without surging after I had spent time doing it myself!
@nikoscosmos and MrEunuch ..Thanks for that, the GS is getting nice and cold in Beechdale Motorcycles as we speak and will be "seen to" tomorrow morning. Keep your fingers crossed and keep them tips coming.
Nice new mule ;-). I'm on my 3rd GS now (didn't get on with the 1150 and the 1st of the 1200's was written off hitting a dear) and they are an acquired taste for sure, but it has to be the most versatile and fun bike I've ever owned ticking way too many boxes that something this unattractive has any right to. Assuming you have no engine wooes once you learn to trust that front end and have road tyres (I use Road Pilot front / Pilot Road 2 rear) you'll grow to love it. Great for tutoring.
We can do the valve clearances and throttle body balancing at Beechdale Motorcycles, that way I can guarantee it'll be done properly (remember I've met a lot of "can't be bothered" mechanics in my time). After that I'll book it in as a last resort just because they have the BMW contacts and computer. Thanks for the advice Nigel.
Why not test ride another BMW first, try Pidcock Motorrad. Do not start messing, especially with that mileage. The Bmw likes lower revs and higher gears, where you would be in second I would be in 3rd or 4th, using the torque.
Please do yourself a favour and try the KTM 990 adventure (I'm in love with her after 2 unhappy BMW marriages)....

Wow, it looks so scary those British roads! Whenever you go around a bend I keep thinking you're on the wrong side of the road!

I tend to keep the rpm between 3-4000 except when there is a long period in a 40mph zone where I might drop down t0 2000.
