Now trying to sing Mozart as life saver just makes his situation more pathetic. Singing serious Mozart roles requires skills which Villazon doesn't have. Singing some baroque music is OK, the vocal demands are not exrtreme. His worshippers obviously do not know any better.

I hate it when I see the front part of the tongue move back. We all know as part of good technique, the tongue must stay in the "ng" position (arched partially forward at the back but not curled back at the tip, which takes years to perfect). See Sophie Koch the mezzo and you'll see the same bs with the tongue stuffing itself back at the tip. Equally as bad is pushing the tongue down at the back, which chokes it off as well.

Rolando Villazon IS the best Werther to come along on the opera stage in a long, long time. Before him, only Jose Carreras in the late 70´s at the San Francisco Opera with Maria Ewing. Villazón is perfect for the part, both vocally and theatrically. Wether is a carater in total dispear and Villazón delivers his agony with total Art.

Nicolai Gedda is one of the most underated tenors we have. Still Nicolai Gedda gets great reviews here on yuotube for performances 20-30 years ago.

I hate it when I see the front part of the tongue move back. We all know as part of good technique, the tongue must stay in the "ng" position (arched partially forward at the back but not curled back at the tip, which takes years to perfect). See Sophie Koch the mezzo and you'll see the same bs with the tongue stuffing itself back at the tip. Equally as bad is pushing the tongue down at the back, which chokes it off as well.

Rolando Villazon IS the best Werther to come along on the opera stage in a long, long time. Before him, only Jose Carreras in the late 70´s at the San Francisco Opera with Maria Ewing. Villazón is perfect for the part, both vocally and theatrically. Wether is a carater in total dispear and Villazón delivers his agony with total Art.

--> loge10 I considered not to give further clues because most have been said in previous comments below but if you want, I can mention some: in this rendition he sings mostly flat, the mesa di voce which is essential fort his aria is almost non exiting, he is cutting the phrases in small portions, the characterization does not reflect the text and his acting is exaggerated and grotesque. I still have some more but these should be enough. RV is far away from beeing the best Werther!

I don't like this rendition either. There is a lot of rezons very well exposed by Vielflieger. I also have my doubts on the pitch. And, by the way, I like RV.
On the whole I think it is very hard to find "the best" in matters of art... singers are all different and probalby no comparison is valid, few deserve the title of perfection

Don't pick on the poor guy !! he really does try -he needs a
good coach -the voice is every which way -to get effect -but he doesn't seem to know what effect he wants.Some one should take him in hand before he ruins himself .-if it is not already too late.

Jan-Are you just genetically stupid or pretending to be one? Kermit (aka Villazon) is almost 40. Good technique is developed much earlier in life and then gradually perfected as soon as possible. This hispanic idiot doesn't have a good technique, nor a good voice, and his vocal range is pathetic. He sounds throaty, hooted and pushed just like his mentor. He already has ruined himseld, and in the last 9 years he's been ruining wonderful operatic roles.

mierda mexicana yo no se por que te expresas asi de los mexicanos,cuando con respeto se puede estar o no de acuerdo con algo o disentir de una opinion, nosotros los mexicanos siempre hemos sido buenos amigos de los cubanos y por lo general siempre son bien recibidos en mexico y mexico no tiene malos cantantes estoy de acuerdo no to0dos son buenos pero la mayoria son excelentes,pero no veo por que hay q insultar como tu lo haces en tus comentarios.
