This is a modern all analog synth designed and made by a German Modular synth guru Dieter Doepfer and his companyDoepfer. They make modern analog synths and Doepfer A-100 series Modular Synth Modules. Great stuff, can sound a lot like a EMS VCS3 or EMS Synthi-A when programmed right.
Dark Energy is just a couple of years old but it's far from modern in the sense that all of the signal path is analogue. It does however have a MIDI interface (with USB as well) so it's easy to use together with modern gear.
@666gary666 Thats because the cymbal track was not sequenced but a looped audio sample of a tamborine. The timing would have been tight if I just used a sequence, it would have been synced to the tempo of the step sequencer.. but I rushed putting this vid up. Cheers
This riff never gets old. Amazing how something built of pretty simple chords has captured our interest and imaginations for decades and decades to come it seems.
It is the perfect riff/arp for twiddles and tweaks. Doepfer does it proud in the hands of a creative programmer. Nice work - I see years of fun and exploration with these units.
@canecreek00 Thanks, I also put the glide option in last week... Trying to make a "kick stand" for the DE now to use it standing ;-) The more I use it the more like the Dark Energy. Great sounding synth, fun to program!
@module19 i've got my eye on 'Dark Time' i'm just hoping when it is released it will easily merge/bolt together with DE into one single unit and only need one single power supply (wall wart) to run them.
Excellent demo. I really like the range of the filters and the sound is rich and full like analog should be. Might not be perfectly true to the original but it is a great listen and takes you back to PF for sure. You have a high hat click track or rhythm sound going on and can I assume that is coming from the VST? or otherwise?
Look forward to more when you have time. Thanks for posting this.
@newpro5657 Hey Sam, Thanks for the listen. The cymbals were the one track I ran along withe the step sequencer. Its was made by looping some tamborine samples.
Super! Can I download this video somehow?

Is this a synth from the 70's, like the VCS that Waters used? Or is it a "modern" one as it were?

@canecreek00 Me too, Also thinking about getting a second DE and bolting them together... Only wish it had a noise generator ..... :-)
