Growing up on the Chesapeake Bay, we had a hurricane at least every other years. Sometimes two or three in a season. But no one ever called them the most dangerous storm in history even though a lot were category two and a lot were category three and and four. Weather Channel is hyping this specifically to get ratings. Not to protect anyone. Just their revenue stream. BTW, Irene is losing steam. It will probably be a tropical storm by the time it hits NYC head on. If it hits NYC, head on.

uhh... i think everyone forgets that the rain and wind does hurt people... its hurts buildings and possessions, to which is where the billions of dollars of repair will go once this is done. This is classic. A fear-mongering weather person is "depressed" because people display joie de vivre and curiosity rather than heeding the commands to stay inside and be scared. Yeah, the hurricane has killed a few people. But if Irene had never happened, probably more would have died in ordinary traffic accidents during the same time interval. The guy should just tell people to be scared to death every moment of every day of their miserable fucking lives.
