Lee did what I wanted from the others to do, he kept to the story. Even when he did look to the camera and the audience, he kept in character and continued to convey the narrative. By the end, I felt like I was watching the musical version of "Friends" and had to remind myself I was watching a competition show

They would start to tell their story, and then they'd look out into the audience or at the camera and break the fourth wall and the narrative. It was jarring. I had to get back into the story from scratch every time. It was like they used those times to say "Look at me!"

The emphasis on this and subsequent weeks of the competition was on acting. Could the performer sustain the emotional content of the story and add to it through their acting ability. Every other performer, including the mighty Daniel Boyz (whom I loved, by the way), disappointed me in this.

Though some of the points you've mentioned may have been valid if this had been a pop performance, I'm not sure if you were aware that this piece was performed for an MT competition to find an actor to play Joseph in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat." All the songs had to be reworked to fit into a 2-minute time limit. As such, a completely different set of criteria is needed to judge its merits.
