Listen to Hank Williams Sr., George Jones, Merle Haggard in his younger days, and then come back and listen to this guy. Their voices are not what contemporary pop country sounds like either, but these are country music legends. So go check them out, you just might acquire a more educated point of view. Or for more modern voices, listen to Brad Paisley, Luke Bryan, Keith Urban, or Eric Church.

@869mckenna I just figured them out by ear and by watching him play it live.. Here I have the guitar tuned down a half step as to match the original. When he plays it live he has it a full step below standard EADGBE, or at least in the ones i watched he did. I more or less played it with C and G and might have threw in Em somewhere a couple times..
