Mount Redoubt started rumbling in late January and finally started to erupt about a week ago. It has erupted 12 times since and thanks to the monitoring, the FAA was able to warn planes about it ... unlike last time, when a plane nearly crashed because of the ash from it.
The eruption in '89 caused enough damage to make it the second costliest volcano disaster in US history.

The difference here is that WE CAN anticipate with volcanic activity and with more funding we might be able to save the population of Anchorage which was 100 miles away from this blast(the ash went 1000 miles). It is a fool that under estimates this type of disaster...why is it conservatives always seek to incur the cost after the fact when the price is far steeper? It's not a matter of if...but when.
