ive tried four loko before the caffeine was banned and it wasnt any different from any other beverage i have tried. sure it fucks you up, but honestly ive seen worse things happen from people drinking 151 proof liquor and even just cheap wine/malt liquor. just goes to show what a bullshit world we live in.
From my classes in Abnormal Psychology, I do remember very clearly the professor telling us that the most dangerous mixture of drugs were Xanthines (caffeine, cocaine, etc.) and alcohol. Of all the mixtures of drugs, if you, for example, do some coke then drink some liquor, you are at risk of definitely passing away quicker than you might expect.
They went on a which hunt with this shit...if it's so bad ban energy drinks AND any alchoholic beverage. I can buy a monster for 2 bucks and a 40 for a buck. still 3 dollars.
there is nothing wrong with four loko, it's the people who drink them, like down here in florida, this 18 year old girl bought a four loko got drunk, and got behind the wheel, and got into a accident. THAT'S HER FAULT!!! she knew she was too young to drink in the 1st place, and she knew better than to drive drunk. It was her own stupidity that cost her her hand. now she trying to sue the makers of four loko. SHE'S A DUMB BITCH.
The drink is quite powerful, but its not hoping down peoples mouths by itself. The problem is pressure from so called friends and all those people that think chugging these things will make them look cool. If your gonna drink, take it slow and dont be an idiot. Personally i think this drink tastes like shit.
Why doesnt the gov't. ban fast food as well since people can get heart disease from eating it? And while they're at it, why doesn't the gov't ban the sale of alcohol and cigarettes since they can cause health problems too. Why doesn't the gov't just butt out and let us figure it out for ourselves.
You know it's dangerous when the label on the can makes you SOOO HAPPPPPYY when you see it like I did just there AAAAWW I miss my Four Loko soooo baaaaaad pleeeeaaase come back in this lifetime pleeeeeeeeeease :D :( :( :( :D
Four Loko doesn't have caffeine in it anymore. The government should protect us from the rapists and thieves and shit, and stop babysitting us. We have minds and can make our own decisions.
I want daddy Schumer and the Nanny state to run my life, thank you for making decisions for me government nanny guru's. You're improving all our life's with your wisdom and judgment, what need we have for personal decisions with you as our leaders? - None I say!
Well done, stay the hell out of my life Schumer, I like trans fat, I like using more than one square of toilet paper, I like my light bulbs, I like my heat/AC around 70, I've never had four look nor do I smoke, but if you are an adult and you want to, u should be able to make your own free decisions.
The reason Four Loko was banned is because their lobbyists didn't pay Chuck Schumer and the rest of the politicians. Anheuser Busch, Coors, Seagrams, et al have their lobbyists who pay off the politicians
Had a friend that was totally obsessed with this stuff... now that he is no longer too drunk to function (thanks to the FDA), he used his newly acquired cognitive abilities to rob a few houses and earn a 10 year prison sentence for stolen firearms.
There's a "law" of some kind that explains outcomes like this; ones producing results that the proponents did not intend in the first place. It escapes me at the moment though...

Now, I do agree with most of you saying that it should be legal... But the politician does what he/she thinks is most desired by the public. Just wondering because it kiiinndddaaa seems like you're confused and it's confusing me. Had this proposal gone thru courts or congress (the only lawful way to make laws as of Marbury v. Madison and last time I checked) it would have probably stayed legal.
I bet the late senator Kennedy drank many a cup of coffee before driving himself to work to vote on our future, and likely his staff had to read the bills for him since the rustling papers hurt his head

@jimisback no, fuck the government. people like you and me who get pissed of with the stunts big brother does are the ones with the problem. US politicians are all bullys and the process of dealing with a bully is ignorance and if that doesn't get us anywhere, then the only choice is retaliation! 'Big' brother has put so much time and resources into dumbing down the people they govern and liying about, making us feel like voting is an act of freedom.
Why is it that Congress is so lazy, is not to do their Constitutional duty and not pass it off to an agency. The FDA and all other agencies are actually a violation of the Constitution, which clearly states ONLY congress shall make laws. The FDA circumvents that authority and makes laws. These agencies are not accountable to the American people and therefore MUST be abolished!
"We must protect children.." As soon as I heard those words come out of Schumer's mouth, my bullshit alarm went off. And politicians and the media thrive off of bullshit like this.
Again the communists need to remove personal responsibility. Dependency is their bread and butter. Real Americans dont need any of it. An Unjust law is no law at all. When everyone is a criminal the leverage is enormous, just look at Russia, Or as it should be called USSR.
@madhatter0110 I think you're right madhatter. But young people need to be taught to drink in the example of those with experience and wisdom. Binge culture is not something the elected has proved very effective at controlling.
@mendelbot The elected has also proved to be very effective at avoiding parental duties and responsibilities. It is when young people learn about alcohol from their friends and not their parents that yields things such as binge culture, violence, drug use, and other bad behaviors and habits.
Forget alcohol and caffeine. Don't mix political coercion and ethical do-gooder-ism!
The Republican- and Democrat-supported Welfare State is BASED upon tyrannical altruism. They promote and enact partial enslavement -- but it's for your own damn good! :-(
@diah4 Um, it was profitable? You may find one or two non libertarians like me who really don't believe that market forces are the expression of the pinnacle of rationality.
I am not so radically opposite the libertarians as to believe that whatever the market doesn't do, government should.
We have got to ban cars because some stupid college students are using them to go over the posted speed limit, We have to do it for the kids. Save the kids of stupid parents now by banning all cars and trucks.
The average 21 year old American acts like a rational adult? Ok, "reason.tv" Go to virtually any college campus in this country. Reality disagrees with you, I'm afraid
I don't drink, I don't use caffeine, but frankly, this sort of government action is frightening. I get the arguments about the potency of the drugs within, but that could be addressed by labeling. Any government action should be about making sure that both parties (seller and buyer) are informed, not actions of social engineering. Labeling the content with accurate information on the active ingredients is a reasonable requirement by a governmental body. Deciding who can have them is not.
How do you guys like the government treating you like you aren't smart enough to make your own decisions?? I'm sure many of you here actually voted for the scum that is behind this nanny state.
@mcap52 It's been like this for so long. The government has to demonize something and get rid of it so they look like they're being productive. It's not like voting will help anyway, they're all the same.
@HolyCity2012 "Child labor" is just a phase that all developing economies go through. It comes between "watching most children die" and "childhood education". It goes away naturally from increasing affluence.
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."
This isn't a Democrat vs Republicans debate. Democrats are weak and buckle at the power of the Republicans, and the Republicans are mostly powerful because they are highly corporate in favor and all their supports are heavy income, highest tax bracket persons who wish to keep or increase their salaries and bonuses.
I would do the same if I made that kind of money. But I don't. However, until I am rich enough to start fucking over people myself. I want to be protected from them.
I like the comparison to Irish Coffee. So will this ban prevent from selling their alcoholic coffee drinks? How about the Vodka 180s, etc? Some girl died here in Dallas and they blamed Four Loko. Of course she died because she was drunk, underage and so was the drunk underage person who was driving the car she was in. This is just stupid.
I'm sorry but the American people need to be protected from their own stupidity. These is basically a big pro-Republican propaganda ad.
Besides, even if the FDA bans this, they let you eat Aspartame (which has been linked to cancer), High Fructose Corn Syrup doing the same damage to your body as drinking Ethanol, or feeding your children Milk with high amounts of antibiotics because of greed?
The FDA does the BARE FUCKING MINIMUM. Remember Yazmin? Same testing goes for food. Almost none.
@LOLitsJono That's actually my favorite plank in the Republican platform: a shot and a cupa Joe in every pot. But thank God there's our intellectual betters like yourself to tell us what to eat, drink, do and spend our money on "for our own good."
Are you for real, or did I just get pwned by a troll?
@LOLitsJono That's actually my favorite plank in the Republican platform: a shot and a cupa Joe in every pot. But thank God there's our intellectual betters like yourself to tell us what to eat, drink, do and spend our money on "for our own good."
Are you for real, or did I just get pwned by a troll?
No problem, us superiors gotta look out for the subhumans (the poor). God bless. Keep voting Republican so we can keep fucking over the poor for being fat, stupid, and uneducated so we can keep blaming themselves for their problems and not their systematic suppression for maximum profitization of an uneducated market segment. Can't sell dangerous, harmful, toxic, gene pool-altering chemicals in food, toys, and other consumables to an educated person, right?
@LOLitsJono, if you consent to an organization like the government, then you agree not to buy anything they ban and stay away from businesses that don't comply. Just don't force it on the rest of us.
@LOLitsJono Umm, just a clue -- Chuckie Schumer is a DEMOCRAT. The FDA chairman and others in the administration going loco over this --- all DEMOCRATS. The reporters raising the alarm? Trend left, some so far left they make the Democrats look like pikers. Don't you guys think the, "It's all Bush's fault" meme is about to die of old age?
Democrats wanting to protect the people while having an ulterior motive is nothing new but it is significantly better than the other hand.
If I wanted to add on to the "It's All Bush's Fault" thing, I would've said how funny it was that Republicans who say Democrats are weak on terrorism, failed to protect us from 9/11, continue to fail to find an aging ex-saudi oil prince who was trained by Ronald Reagan (R) who needs constant dialysis, ruined our economy by excess deregulation
@LOLitsJono, No one needs to be "protected from their own stupidity". If you do something stupid you alone pay the consequences. Not the guy next to you who watched you do it. And this has nothing to do with the republican party, obviously.
Yes because the people who got lung cancer/mesothelioma for installing asbestos as a cheap insulator were obviously well informed and not mislead in any way, shape or form. Surely no politicians have ever lied and operate fully in the interest of the people.
Because the people who choose to install asbestos are clearly well educated and had chosen to install asbestos as a lucrative career choice.
@LOLitsJono, are you justifying the banning of asbestos? Next you're going to tell me everything the nanny state has banned was justified. Screw happy meals and freedom of speech on tv and radio!
Yeah, screw freedom of speech. That's why we should squelch Julian Assange by unlawfully persecuting him for reporting State secrets which were given to him, not stolen. Let's kill the messenger of bad news, not tackle the issue at hand itself!
Besides, intellectuals such as Sarah Palin are for it. Clearly she can be trusted.
"When even one American - who has done nothing wrong - is forced by fear to shut his mind and close his mouth - then all Americans are in peril." -- Harry S. Truman
I don't get drunk, because I don't like the feeling, however.... I would rather a substance such as Four Loko live on, than the government deciding to win the nanny of the month. It's like Darwin awards for the government.
You can buy crack cocaine on any street corner but, this what our government is focused on? High tech irish coffee. We must protect the children! The children! First of all these are college age people not children and yes we need to protect them from idiots in congress that want to control everything in thier lives.
We're reliving the 1930s all over again. Prohibition v.2 can't be far behind. We already have Wal-Mart tattling on our neighbors, we have checkpoints, we have the TSA. Wake up, Americans!
Well Four loko does get you really fucked up and blacked out easily, much like bum wine such as irish rose or thunderbird... it is also total crackhead drink. only underaged people and college alchoholics drink it, and only because it is cheap as dirt.
so everything they say is the reason for banning it is pretty true.
but
the government should not be able to ban it on this premise.
Ban rock climbing! People can fall! Arrest people who don't wear a hat and scarf in winter! They might get frostbite! Ban smoking. Oh, wait. The president smokes.
Educate and inform people. Don't make decisions for them. Allow them to make their own decisions. Doesn't it bother so-called liberals or leftists that the greatest threat to freedom (including free speech) is coming from the left? From PC language police, to banning products, regulations, Michelle Obama's food police, on and on and on the list goes. FCC net neutrality. The CULT of GREEN. Welcome to the new puritanism. And we should fear the religious right? What happened to tolerance???
@slickvguy Neurotic behavior is not an inherently liberal trait, sir. This is less of a political issue and much more so an issue of ignorance and naiveté that must be isolated and defeated, so please don't contribute to the political saturation of this.
@Scratchums Nothing "inherent" about it. It is learned. It most definitely is coming from the left far more than the right. As someone who identifies (socially) more with the left, I guess it bothers me more than if it was coming from the right. I'm tired of this constant grind against my freedom by those on the left, convinced of their righteousness, who think they know better than I do how I should live my life. What I can/should say. What I should believe. How I should act.
The feds should ban women who don't put out, because if a guy doesn't get laid often enough, he gets blue balls, which compels him to do irrational things in order to get laid, which can lead to self-destructive behavior.
The feds should ban fat chicks too, because fatties also contribute to blue balls/self-destructive behavior syndrome, because they have a penis softening effect on most men.
tax the living shit out of the company that makes the stuff. the government could sure use the money

US politicians are all bullys and the process of dealing with a bully is ignorance and if that doesn't get us anywhere, then the only choice is retaliation! 'Big' brother has put so much time and resources into dumbing down the people they govern and liying about, making us feel like voting is an act of freedom.

madhatter0110 1 year ago
Why is it that Congress is so lazy, is not to do their Constitutional duty and not pass it off to an agency. The FDA and all other agencies are actually a violation of the Constitution, which clearly states ONLY congress shall make laws. The FDA circumvents that authority and makes laws. These agencies are not accountable to the American people and therefore MUST be abolished!

@madhatter0110 I think you're right madhatter. But young people need to be taught to drink in the example of those with experience and wisdom. Binge culture is not something the elected has proved very effective at controlling.
mendelbot 1 year ago
@mendelbot The elected has also proved to be very effective at avoiding parental duties and responsibilities. It is when young people learn about alcohol from their friends and not their parents that yields things such as binge culture, violence, drug use, and other bad behaviors and habits.

AZFederalist 1 year ago
@AZFederalist
LOLitsJono 1 year ago
@LOLitsJono, No one needs to be "protected from their own stupidity". If you do something stupid you alone pay the consequences. Not the guy next to you who watched you do it. And this has nothing to do with the republican party, obviously.
Houshalter 1 year ago
@Houshalter
God bless :)
LOLitsJono 1 year ago
@LOLitsJono, are you justifying the banning of asbestos? Next you're going to tell me everything the nanny state has banned was justified. Screw happy meals and freedom of speech on tv and radio!
Houshalter 1 year ago
@Houshalter
LOLitsJono 1 year ago
@LOLitsJono, now your against wikileaks. Is there anywhere you won't go to support the state and it's ability to lord power over people?

Scratchums 1 year ago 3
@Scratchums Nothing "inherent" about it. It is learned. It most definitely is coming from the left far more than the right. As someone who identifies (socially) more with the left, I guess it bothers me more than if it was coming from the right. I'm tired of this constant grind against my freedom by those on the left, convinced of their righteousness, who think they know better than I do how I should live my life. What I can/should say. What I should believe. How I should act.
slickvguy 1 year ago
The feds should ban women who don't put out, because if a guy doesn't get laid often enough, he gets blue balls, which compels him to do irrational things in order to get laid, which can lead to self-destructive behavior.
The feds should ban fat chicks too, because fatties also contribute to blue balls/self-destructive behavior syndrome, because they have a penis softening effect on most men.
