There is a strong relationship between Chinese history and Japanese history. I like Japanese history very much, especially since 明治維新. We learn from each other as time goes by. Even though there were some periods of unhappy time between our two countries, the similarity of our culture and history will eventually guide us to a friendship which can be destroyed by no one forever.

my how delightfully convenient and nationalistic, but it is at least admirable to see the past 'being reconciled'. the anti japanese fervor springing from within chinese schools (certainly from some students) does seem 'misguided at times'....especially for people who as you say 'share common backgrounds'....

my argument here is to simply not let this relationship negatively affect the world as 'say european ww2 differences of opinion' put the planet in the grip of fear....

i read a interesting film analysis of this film by a westerner. He said this film had the metaphor of the war against japan in wwii (or 2nd sino-japan war). Cao cao being Japan, Dong Wu being KMT, Liu bei's army being CCP. haha

叫你回去先查地图，赤壁在哪儿，在夏口还要往西，当时刘备就驻军­的夏口（赤壁前），孙权怎么可能管到哪里，东吴地盘扩展到赤壁都­是战后的事了。黄盖献计烧船周瑜传里有记载，刘备传里也有提及，­这是现在的主流说法，没确定证据不要乱说，只是烧掉的基本上只有­船而已，对曹军本身并没有太大伤害

What is the film called? And which war/time period is it about? It looks very interesting- i've only recently being looking into Chinese/Russian etc films which are hard to come by in the UK.

The film is called "red cliff" and is set during the Three Kingdoms period in chinese history.

It was released in two parts (both upwards of 2hrs) in asia. The actors are superb and it's really well put together, but the 2nd part departs GREATLY from the story in a disappointing way.

still, it's worth a watch - both parts. try mysoju.
